Aircraft Super Thread Mk.VII

Yup definitely to prevent infestation. we have them on our lights in our hangar here to keep them from roosting. The pigeons were so bad here at one point that you had to watch where you were at in the hangar. They finally put up bird netting to keep them out. Yeah the JASSM was one of those systems that took forever to get through testing. But most munitions have some form of issue at first. The AMRAAM didn't start off too hot either. Back in 91 my jets sister ship went up on a live launch for testing purposes ( the 120 was still in testing non operational). The pilot fired the 120 off at the drone and the damn thing exploded 400 yds off the rail. The pilot ended up flying through the fireball and IFE"d into Tyndall because he thought he may have ingested some of the shrapnel from it. Other times it worked beyond expectations. One pilot fired one at a drone and it never exploded. he thought he missed the target completely until the drone landed and he was informed that the missile had gone straight through the canopy and burned up the seat with its rocket motor. The JASSM has had quite a few issues, so much so the Navy chose to stick with something they knew was reliable. -

Yeah from the angle in Davids picture it looks like it is directly above the center of the Thunderchief. I have been moving today so I haven't had any time to really research it. It is either a missile or some form of rocket assisted GBU. -

Damn I didn't even see that. That thing is small. I have no idea myself. These companies have tested so many different types of guided self propelled munitions it is hard to even guess. Here is a better pic of it I found. It is way bigger than it looks at from the other angle. -

The AF Armament Museum. Spent plenty of time there also. I didn't realize until one of my last trips there that the P-47 they have on display is also a flyable Thunderbolt. They have to keep drip pans under it. People do not realize the actual size of the Thunderchief until you see one up close to one. Most of the guys working there are old, I think you could have gotten away with it....LOL. I was stationed at Eglin back in 91-92. That was one of 2 F-111's there on station at the time, got to see her do a high speed flyby for the airshow practice in spring of 91. That bird was screaming when she went by. What was really impressive to see was the GBU-28 hung on an aircraft for testing. That damn thing made the F-111 lean to the side it was mounted on. Nice pics though David. Go home Zepplin pilot your drunk......... -

David where did you take that pic at. The F3H I saw was at the Naval Air museum NAS Pensacola. They have one of the best collections of jet aircraft from the 50's and 60's next to the AF Museum at Wright Patterson. Definitely the Naval Air Museum. My home is 45 mins from there ( the family is there while I work over here). I was always thought the F7U was cool until i saw the one there. Then I saw how kinda awkward looking it was. Did you see the N1K2 they have on display. that one blew my mind especially when I saw the bullet hole patches on it. My dad was stationed on the Intrepid when it came out of refit in 54-55. He had stacks of pictures form the flight deck of the F2H's and Skyraiders. He actually worked on the gunsights for the aircraft. I was surprised also at how big the F2H was I was also surprised at how small the A6M2 was. The one they have hanging now used to sit on the floor near the the hanging Blue Angels A-4's and you could actually touch it. That was back in 91 though. -

I can think of few other races in sci fi that were far bigger dicks. The PC were arrogant and prideful which was one of the reasons for their eventual demise. But they learned enough to attempt to propagate new species that they probably hoped would turn out better than them. Unfortunately the uncontrolled Zentraedi and SA forces fighting would tarnish that attempt along with the unmarked sealed sites and tech without even so much of a sign such as" don't open or use in the name of that is holy, if you do you will die, everyone around you will die and the galaxy will die". Zinjo is right though at least they confirmed what most of us susp[ected about Roid. But Berger's and Epsilon's scheme is still unclear. Unfortunately the next episode looks like either another info dump or talk about your feelings episode. I definitely believe what was stated in earlier episode threads is going to happen. They are going to rush the ending due to these backstory episodes being thrown in. -

Well I can think of other sci fi races that were far bigger dicks. The PC biggest issue was their pride and arrogance. But they still found value in life and attempted to foster it. In the end they realized this but it was too late at that point. All they could do was propagate new species using their own own genes just to ensure some part of them lived on. Their irresponsibility in marking sealed tech and sites as "dangerous don't open this in the name of all that is holy" doesn't help them definitely. In my book the prize for the biggest dickhead species in sci fi would go to the Halo Forerunners, now they were dicks. Roid though seems to be falling right in the footsteps of the PC. His idiotic pride and arrogance is going to lead to f'ing up the galaxy in a big way. So maybe they are the inheritors of the PC. Then he has lit the bulb in Bergers mind now. That weasel is plotting something. The next episode looks like an info dump again or discuss your feelings episode. I definitely feel that the end is going to be rushed if we are looking at 27 episodes. -

I think the effective word for those surfaces would be rudderons since the whole surface moves. Those things have got to move that frame pretty quick in either direction considering how big they are, Dobber, the last I read on them was that the engine development was still lagging, they were looking at 2017 for the first of the new engines being ready. The Indians were getting irritated since they were the primary partners in the endeavor to build it and had already placed an order for them. They are currently using AL-31's like the Sukhoi's are. That might explain why the Indian Air Force just ordered the Block 70 variant of the F-16 also. -
Actually I was just wondering that myself the other day when I watched episode 21. I realized that Freyja only had one. That is a good question......

I know from interaction in the military with officers (pilots), they will have models like that on their desk. Usually of aircraft they have either flown or greatly admire. Navy officers are the same way but then they will also have ship models or pictures of both historical ships and ships they have served on. As Seto said he may have served for a stint in the Spacy and may have served on one of the SDFN's or holds an admiration for the SDF-1. Either way it is a nice desk ornament. -

That is a good question Spanner, I have never looked for one. One of the few things I liked about Edwards AFB. At night you could see every star in the sky and the satellites as they passed over.
