Frothy I know you are really busy with your studies and everything, just wondering if you have an idea off the top of your head of when you be able to write the next chapter for United We Stand. I really like your story and I think I speak for most, we all want to see how it finishes.

Very true what JB0 said. The system I was talking about would work extremely well in an atmosphere. But I can bet that is where the system dissipates through the fuel cells since liquid hydrogen has to be kept at around -200 or so degrees. I noticed in the cut away drawing what appears to be either another heat exchanger or it could even be a form of JFS or APU. But judging from the size of the lines that run to it i would say more than likely it is a heat exchanger that uses some form of bleed air/exhaust to flow the heat out of the frame. I would post the pic but i am having a hard time posting pics I have saved from my computer to the forums. The picture in in my gallery though and the component is highlighted.

OK so the heat being dissipated into the integral fuel cells won't work according to you..........and where are those fuel cells at.........in the wings. If you look at the cut away in the VF master file you can see the what appears to be tightly run coolant lines concentrated in the wing near its root, the heat would be dissipated first through the fuel and then out through the wing surface, so the wing can act as a large heat sink. Also according to the drawing on pg 24, air is taken in through the Boundary layer sub inlet and then it is routed out through rear variable vane slit for the wing. This is where it takes heat from the heat exchanger.

Yeah I thought they did also. But like you said they used the characters to explain the different back questions that would arise. It is shame they didn't do that with Zero. I know a lot of folks didn't care for the Vara aspect in MF. I myself had no issue with them. It went away from the normal bad guy that was upfront and raving on about their plans and goals. It put you on your feet thinking ok how do you deal with an enemy who's intentions are unknown and you can't even communicate with. On top of that they adapt quickly due to their hive mind mentality which is completely alien to our way of thinking, learning, and living.

Yeah the 22 doesn't have it and never will. That is due to its radar package and highly effective stealth ability. All the active duty USAF F- 16 's have been moded with JHMC's. This was done during the CCIP mod back a few yrs ago.- 278 replies

Just an off question. Why does Isamu have no shirt on in his ID picture? Is it some odd UN policy that ID pics be taken with no shirt on?- 2715 replies

Very true Driver. Believe me I do sit and enjoy the series ( well all except 7, I got tired of hearing Basara yell for everyone to listen to his song). You would be surprised at how much time I spend at home thinking about these questions from Macross though. Lately it has been the reaction turbine engines and that damn heat dissipation question! I am not too knowledgeable on Warhammer but I will take your word for it.

Unfortunately I don't know as much about the F-35 as I would like but I think if I did that system is still fairly classified as far details go.I have seen it up close and personal though. But the helmet mounted queuing system was being developed for the USAF back in in the late 90's. I know the Israelis had a lot to do with its development. It is funny how the JHMCS didn't show up until Macross Zero where as the wrap around cockpit showed up first in Macross Plus. I know both were being planned or thought out in the mid 90's or maybe earlier. But it was when I saw the wrap around cockpit in Plus that I came to conclusion of how far forward Kawamori was thinking. The Russians in typical fashion were the first to mount a Helmet mounted queuing system in a fighter, unfortunately it was very slow at locking on compared to our system and their missiles off sight boresighting weren't as good as ours.- 278 replies

I am not necessarily slamming the series. I enjoyed it but I myself was more fascinated in the Protoculture aspect of the story itself. Yes I am speculating but this is what I have concluded from watching it numerous times and putting together the information given. They focused so much on developing the character relationships that other aspects of the story were left to the side leaving people scratching their heads and asking questions. I believe that 5 episodes weren't enough to tell the story they were telling. Basically to me it was like being given a taste of a tiny piece of cake and then not being given the rest. I mean seroiusly why was Dr. Turner getting a PCS response on her cross dimensional radar while Sara was singing in the pool? Was the AI an observer, creator, destroyer or both and why was there Alpha bombay blood type coming form it. Those are the kind of questions I was asking at the end.

Forward swept wings by all rights are ideal for a fighter since they are supposed to unstable to a certain degree. Aircraft designers have been toying with them for at least 65 yrs. But the X-29 built back in the 80's was one of the first that really flew and engineers were able to get test data off of. It was supposed to have taken 3 flight control computers to keep it controllable. I imagine Kawamori was influenced by that aircraft to an extant. Now what I think is cool also is the system built into the F-35. The pilot can see through the cockpit with his helmet. Though the system doesn't work like the YF-19's it allows the pilot to see any aircraft around him due the sensors on the nose.- 278 replies

That was when he began to awaken though. Now the songs affecting the growth of the life around Sara I believe had to do with fold waves of some type being emanated from her but they never delved into this either. Doctor Turners hand held cyclops system was picking those up as she was singing. I think they should have delved more into the genetic connection her and her family had to the Protoculture. Since so little has been revealed about the Protoculture, that I think would have shed more light on how and why some of this was happening. The AI was linked to the Priestess's family to the point where it could be affected by their emotional state like the Vajra were with Ranka. This was demonstrated by the way it reacted to her that moment she thought Shin had been killed. Now it is possible that she was able to manipulate the AI's gravity control through her link with it. It would have helped if there had been some sequence or explanation how Sara's family was linked to the AI.

I myself was under the impression that the Bird man was asleep or dorment. The islanders were concerned with him being awakened. Also they stated that he had finally been awakened in the last episode. I know the AI was capable of advance gravity control but I do believe that it was dorment.

It was the whole music making the rocks float without any attempt at explaining it. Just like the confusion that seems to occur over the age of the birdman AI. Aires Turner stating well its over 10,000 yrs old but the exact age is classified and no one in this briefing can hear that number.Thats like the government briefing someone and saying " yeah there are UFO's at Area 51 but you can't know what color they are because that detail is classified !"
-
I would have enjoyed Zero more if they had focused more on the Bird Human and put more information into its background and origin. I definitely agree that whole musical magic thing was out there. The fighting over the AI fit in well showing the early VF pre production/technology proving models.

Well the nozzle position does correlate to the power of the engine. But for the jet to work as Driver said the nozzle closes to increase the the pressure of the exiting thrust. So at Idle the nozzle is open 95-100%. As the pilot increases the throttle and the rpm of the engine the nozzle closes in conjunction with the increase of thrust. At full mil the nozzle should open no further than 0-15% (this is on the GE engine). If you can see this( I am having issues trying to post pics and stuff) This is what its like to be in the cockpit on an engine run at start up for a maintenance run https://youtu.be/VOeXKWRxaMc This is a maintenance run being performed on an F-16 in Iraq from the outside. Believe me this is definitely muffled compared to standing next to Ge-110-129 in AB. https://youtu.be/cGlxZLiJSvI- 278 replies

The nozzle does work like that until you go from mil power to AB. Once you hit full mil you actually have to move the throttle through what they refer to as a "gate". In the F-16 the this means you move the throttle grip up and push it forward into burner( the throttle on an F-16 is hinged and and the "grip moves up kind of like the blk 6 throttle on the VF-1 except its range of motion far more limited). The pressure from the burner will blow the nozzle off or open and the burner flame would burn up the divergent and convergent seals (in the case of a normal jet engine) or like with this engine it would peel off the ceramic coating and then cause a burn through so the nozzle opens to 95-100%. Believe it or not the one thing you cannot use to mark discrepancies in the exhaust is pencil. Graphite will cause a severe burn though even in titanium because it heats up so bad. We use chalk to mark any thing we find that requires evaluation by the engine specialist. In burner the exhaust get so hot that at night you can see the seals glowing red from the outside of the nozzle.- 278 replies
