  1. Nice one! I think if there would ever be a VF-1 V3 having something like a double jointed knee would be an interesting addition, so you can bring the heels closer to his butt. It would also be nice if they had something like the Hi-Metals where you can spread the legs further apart because the hip joints expand. Buch better leg range/expression. Love the Velocivalks!
  2. Sweet Jesus, I don't think I have ever made a faster decision on a toy purchase than with this guy. I've always wanted a Devastator but the prices were all crazy high. This one has all the G1 feel to it, much better articulation, it's huge and it's $150 bucks. Now... where am I going to put it? I don't have any space left here.
  3. I just had to get it out of my system. I wanted to try a darker armor, black numbers and somewhere to place the Jolly Rogers. I know the numbers don't match. Just a quick and sloppy 'chop.
  4. Oh damn! nice head swap too! Now I want to try and change the colors and see what happens... And thanks everyone for their comments on the pics!
  5. The colors in the pictures are not entirely true to life, I played around with Photoshop's settings quite a bit to get this desaturated look. Sweet pose! Inspiration for those of us without stands!
  6. Haha, nice! those are some solid joints!
  7. Thanks guys! I have to say the sculpt and engineering of this toy is top notch. I love it, money well spent! It's hard to find an interesting pose without a stand other than the regular standing position, but it can be done! Oh and Noel, when I was taking it apart I came to a similar configuration, but in fighter mode. Since I don't have fast packs I kinda made a ghetto version with the armor. Not too bad looking, might post pics later.
  8. Took this guy for a spin today!
  9. Nice! good pose on the last one. And yeah, those side covers are a pain in the ass to install. Oh and I discovered that you have to push the nose section firmly up to get the shield to cover the canopy properly AND to get the chest armor to snap properly in place. But when transforming back to fighter mode you have to slide it out a bit again, otherwise you can't snap the fuselage together... weird, and there's no mention of this in the manual as far as I know.
  10. @sketchley Holy @#%$ dude, I just found a bunch of translations made by you! You are awesome! Here goes the rest of my evening, thanks!
  11. If that's true then I'm back to square one! May I ask where you got this info?
  12. @JB0 Well, I just checked and yes, the VF-1 has 2 thrusters on each leg pointing up and 1 thruster on each arm pointing down in fighter mode (thought not in a straight opposite position). These could potentially provide proper pitch control... and I guess if we go with the idea that they heat air to shoot it out, then there's no limit to how long you can fly it, just pilot fatigue. @David Hingtgen yeah, I thought about the canted rudders but, like you say, kinda like an emergency deal, not really for sharp maneuvering. I think that will do it for me, just because it has these thrusters in reasonable spots... otherwise it would be still be bugging me! Oh and fusion is safe as far as I know, no meltdowns to worry about, just the Zentraedis trying to shoot you down. Well, that's subjective isn't it? The F-14 is cool as hell to me with the wings fully swept and a VF-1 with elevators can't be that far from that...
  13. Just went through this whole thread, whew!, some interesting arguments from the "it should work" camp but I remain unconvinced. As much as I love the VF-1 this big aerodynamic flaw has always been something that bothered me. Sure, it could work with a heavy dose of Overtechnology hand waving on it, but it would be still a flawed design. Basically this thing can't glide safely. You lose power and you are a dart going straight to the ground because you have no aerodynamic pitch control. Or if you are in a dogfight and you need to ease back on the throttle, bam, you lose it again. One engine dies and you're screwed, same story. Some already mentioned having to probably do very fast landings due to this. You can't slow down on this thing, unless the throttle is not the throttle, it's the airbrake control! And the vectoring nozzles even if they snapped into place instantly, they wouldn't give you a force normal/perpendicular to the horizontal axis, they are still only pushing at an angle... anyway, enough rant. Would it have been to hard to put a couple elevators there Mr. Kawamori?
  14. @jenius under straight sunlight it's white, the thing happens when it's in the shade, indirect diffused or bounced sunlight. When you try it, put a blank sheet of paper on the side as a reference. Look at the folded fins on the backpack, in Saburo's pics, you can see how the shadow changes from grey to purple/pink
  15. @Saburo Hell yeah, the pics I've been waiting for! They are awesome, always a treat. Such an iconic design... I grew up with this guy. I even remember I had a foam "J" as my birthday cake decoration once. I thought it was super cool! I was skeptical at first with all this "pink" deal but it's true. Under certain lighting conditions you can clearly see a pink "glow"/tint in this white they are using. I have no idea what would be causing this, my only optimistic thought (as others have already suggested) is that it could have some additive that hopefully diminishes yellowing long term... But if this was the case you would think Arcadia would be pretty open about this and turn this issue into an added benefit. I certainly wouldn't mind the occasional glow if it means my valk will stay white longer... My pessimistic thought is that their supplier is using whatever they want and they are not testing for metameric problems http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metamerism_(color) You can easily see the pink/purple deal in all the white shadow areas in Saburo's pics.
  16. What if it was a (small) valk hand? it would be like it's holding its own scale model
  17. @ChaoticYeti @treatment Thanks guys, I also have the GBP set and want to take a few pics later to see what it can do! @spanner76 Haha, great, now I look back a the pics and I cannot not see Thing holding it. I gotta say, after holding this guy, especially with the armor, the hand would have to have a very strong grip. It's a one heavy dude! ...and btw, sweet sketching skills, you even included the round thingy in the backpack, it's all about details, details...
  18. My first Macross acquisition! I've got to say I'm impressed by the quality of it, solid toy all around and quite posable. Sorry for the hand guys, don't have a stand... yet
  19. Can anyone explain to me why the goggles are grey and not the same color as the armor? I've been watching SDF episode 9 and the screengrab from DYRL and I can't find one instance where the goggle is a different color from the armor...
  20. Nothing from Ami Ami on my end.
