Ruins of the SDF-1 in The Robotech Masters
niomosy replied to 1st Border Red Devil's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Vapor, atmospheric particles and what not after the Invid energy beams hit 'em ^_~ Still, I would have gotten some amusement if New York was shown to be vaped in SDF:Macross/RT: Macross Saga and any RT explaination of why it was rebuilt to 1980's levels, complete with Pan Am building for RT: New Gen Cyc Pan Am made a monster comeback -
I'm more of a 1/55 person. I bought a 1/60 Max mainly because I was in Japan and the only Bandai's they had was the VF-1S (which I also got). Didn't bother with any more 1/60's until the Elint and Ostrich and mainly because there didn't seem much chance of them coming out from Bandai or Yamato in 1/48. At this point, I've decided to go for a used Bandai VT-1 since that's what I'd prefer. A 1/48 would be ideal but I have no experience with the 1/48's. I'm just not a fan of the transformation. They look scrawny compared to the 1/55's. I'm not concerned that much with accuracy. The 1/55's are accurate enough for me plus they have the benefit of being solid and able to be played with. The 1/48's, I haven't really tried yet. I'll at least get the VF-1J and a fast pack to set it up as a Strike valk Now if they pull out a VT-1 and VE-1 in 1/48... I might just have to pick those up! If they release the GBP armor, I would probably get another 1/48 of some kind.

I guess I got really lucky then. My Trendmaster re-release (purchased at TRU for $20) holds together perfectly, I have had no issues ever with it. Mine's not too bad. It's a pain to get the blue & yellow lions detatched from the black lion and the stability isn't always the greatest but it does the job pretty well.

One system I always wanted to get was the Super Grafx. It could play the PC Engine games plus had a few games of its' own which were even better! Sigh. I guess I'll just live with the emulator for now.

Konix was made by a Taiwanese company in the early 90's. During the time when the PC Engine and SFC ruled the industry. That would be the GamePark 32. It came out months before Nintendo released the SP. It's only saving grace was that it is an MP3 player, with a crappy interface that's been perfected by N-Gage. WS Did pretty decently in Japan. Decent to the point that it was outselling the Game Boy Color a couple weeks at a time. Mattel was rumored to be REALLY interested in releasing the WS to the west. Until Nintendo announced the GBA. The Konix Multi System was started in 1988 and died in 1990 with no systems ever being put out, just some prototype stuff. Here's a link to some info on it It was actually a joint projet between Konix and Flare Technology.

I might pick up one of the destroids depending on price and quality. Unless I win some insane amount of money, the monster's out. It's just too much. We'll see about other stuff. I'm more interested in the bad guy stuff than the destroids in all honesty.

If we're talking about Europe, let's not forget the failed Konix Multi-system that was being hyped in one of the video game mags years ago but never made it to production. There was this... I think Russian video game system (or at least it was popular) with a large number of games ported to it. Used to have an emulator for it too. In the states we had that failed attempt at a Linux-based game machine (basically the same idea as the X-box but with Linux instead of Windows for the underlying OS. In Asia, I recall a Korean company putting out a handheld. There's also the Wonderswan in Japan. Not sure how well that did really. It did have some FF games for it, though.

I'll probably skip the monster. Too much money for a single toy. With the 1/48 VF-1J, 1/48 FP, 20th ann. Optimus Prime and some older Mospeada & Macross stuff I'm trying to get, there's no cash left over. Plus I'm saving up for one of these (and if I can get that top, that'd be sweet!)

Best platform? In general, computers. From the Vic 20, Commodore 64 and Amigas to the Atari 400/800 & ST's to PC's with 3d cards. Computers have always been great gaming platforms. You can always get a joystick for it and the keyboard/mouse combo is the best option for certain types of games. These days, the PC is it. I still like consoles but, honestly, I don't put them to use much anymore. If anything, I use my GBA more than my PS2 or GC these days. It's more flexible and functional for me.
-
Let's not forget the Amiga CD32. Also, the FM Towns Marty. IIRC, it was an Intel 386 with a cdrom.
-
You're forgetting that flop that Apple put out for a little while. The Pippin or something like that (it's been a while). Don't forget the 3D0 machine. Talk about a waste of money for that thing. As for the Neo Geo CD, that was a great system. If loading times were a problem, you could've imported the CDZ version which has a 2x cdrom instead of the 1x.

I agree with B, but not A, cause remember Saturn and Dreamcast was the first respectively and we all know how that went. For one... the Saturn was sold for about $100 more then the PSX. Second.... it did poorly in japan. Third.... back then Sega had no idea what they were doing anymore. As for the DC.... it was far better then the PS2, but most companies were caught up in the Sony hype machine to bother with the DC. The DC was also doing poorly in Japan.... which was what decided which console lived and which did not. And besides.... Sega was on their last legs during the DC, there was no way it would survive if its parent company had absolutly no money. Saturn did poorly in Japan? It wasn't as successful as the Mega Drive but it was certainly a viable system in Japan and did much better there than it did here (of course, their early limited launch in the 'states screwed them up a bit as well). Capcom even favored the Saturn as it was a much better system for 2D type games.

I got all 3 for like $6 or so each. I wouldn't pay all that much for them. They're tiny little things and are a pain to transform. I don't think they looked quite as bad in battle armor mode as some but they're not fantastic either. It's probably best to stick to the advise of not paying too much. I've seen them go over $50 a piece easily and I just keep thinking "sucker" when I see it.
-
Actually, I wouldn't mind modifying my hovertank either. Not that I'd transform it much but..
-
How about a Stampede?
-
Just measured my hovertank. Just a tad over 12 inches tall in battloid. I'd do the bioroid but it's currently buried in another room.
-
No problem. I had to hit google to re-find it since the old URL I had wasn't good I've got the hovertank. It's... okay at best. The size is great but it looks rather low quality. I'm glad I've got one as it's really about the only option right now. I'm just hoping Toynami shows some love to the SC fans so I can have a better HT (though smaller ). Edit: just went and hit one of the Robotech RPG sites.... here are some stats on the Hovertank. Not sure if that's quite what you're looking for but it's a start.
-
Other than the obvious Matchbox stuff, there were some models released. It's not too easy to find them, though. Try hitting this site It seems to have a pretty good listing of all the models and toys that came out (or at least made prototype). On the Toynami front, there's still some chance for hope. The Hovertanks have a chance at being made once they've cleared through New Gen / Mospeada stuff. The bad part is that getting through that will probably take a loooong time considering no Alpha's until 2004, the Beta coming out after that and probably Cyclones after that. I kinda wish another company would pick up some of this stuff in Japan so we'd be able to skip some of the waiting. I'm still optimistic that they'll just make the Ajacs and offer a non-canon color scheme or something just to get another one out of it. They can always call one the officer's version and one the non-officer's version and I doubt anyone would really care so long as it was made.

The Yamato 1/48's are your best choice. Outside of that, I tend not to care for the 1/60 Yamato's, preferring the 1/55 Bandai's. The Bandai's are solid toys. They're not as posable but they're not flimsy like the 1/60's either. You also don't have to remove their legs. A lot of people seem to love the Yamato 1/60's but I just don't see whatever it is they see in them. For me, 1/48's for the ones I REALLY want. 1/55's for most everything else and 1/60's only where a particular Valk isn't available from Yamato in 1/48 or Bandai in 1/55 (or insanely difficult and expensive to find such as the VT-1 and VE-1)
-
Likely with FP's, though I really want the GBP armor.

what obsessions besides macross do u guys have?
niomosy replied to kanata67's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Besides Robotech / Macross... Volleyball is probably my main hobby. I'm playing 3 nights a week now. I'd probably like a 4th but just can't spare the time right now. I do have a weekend tournament coming up in Vegas next weekend Roller coasters. This is my most expensive hobby. Why? Travel. Have to get those unique ride in elsewhere in the world afterall! One of the main reasons I went to Japan last year was to ride some of their unique roller coasters and hit the two Disney parks (Disney Sea is phenomenal). I make sure to include coasters in any vacation I plan. Some of the vacations I've been on were mainly for roller coasters (and we hit some museums and such for the wife since she's an art major ). Electronics/computers. I'm a gadget junkie/whore. PC's, PDA's, digital cameras, laptops, mp3 hard drive players. I love 'em. Of course, I work in IT (Unix admin) so it's not a huge surprise. Eventually I want to get a little PC that I can use as a media player. MP3's, movies, streaming audio, etc. etc. Next year. Transformers. Pretty easy one here. Music. I play guitar and bass. Started on guitar but I'm playing bass more these days. More fun right now. I eventually want to get a bitter bass and amp then fix up my PC a bit so I can do some recording. Rock climbing (though I've been lazy about it this year ) I'm gonna try and go next month a couple times. This month is shot, though Hiking. I'd like to do more hiking, especially since the weather isn't 100+ every day now, since it's good excercise for the wife and I (since we really need it) and it's also good for the dogs. Video games. Love 'em. I collect them as well. Not quite like my friend with 7 or 8 systems but I'll probably catch up to that eventually. I do have a Killer Instinct arcade at home, though Which reminds me... I should consider getting a little PC to hook up for Mame. I do want a cabinet strictly for real arcade boards, though. I probably wouldn't mind adding a few more as there are some other things I want to try (kayaking, martial arts, soccer) but I just don't have the time. -
Wolfenstein was the last FPS I played. I haven't touched it in a while. I'll probably pick up Half-Life 2 when it comes out as I'm getting a bit bored with Diablo 2 waiting for 1.10 to be released. HL2 should last me until some more MMORPG's come out and I can decide on my choice of crack for the next year or so

Honestly, a pinned thread might not be a bad idea. We've got one for the Robotech MPC's, why not this?
-
Having avoided all but one Yamato thus far, I decided to pick these two up. About the only reason I did was that Bandai doesn't appear to be releasing them and it's unknown if Yamato will release them in a 1/48 or not. I'm not a huge fan of the 1/60 to be honest. I don't care for the transformation, don't like the flimsy feel of them when holding one and think they just look like the kid in high school voted "most likely to get beaten up by bullies" when compared to my 1/55's. I was pretty excited, though, about these. The shots looked pretty good so I was quite willing to order them. I'll start with the VT-1 since that's the one I opened first. The fighter mode looks great. I figured it was time for battroid. One of the first things I noticed is that some of the plastic seems a bit cheap. I double-checked the box and didn't see Masterpiece Collection written on it anywhere. After that, I grabbed my 1/60 1A Max and compared. The VT-1 does seem a bit lower quality than the 1A Max. Hrmmm. Oh well. I at least managed to get the fast pack to stay in place when standing which I was happy to see. VE-1. We're starting off better. It already has the leg armor on! Why do one this way and another that way? Oh well. Wait... no instructions in the VE-1. Argh. Same basic quality issues. Plus that head! I could swear it was singing, "if I only had a brain". It's tiny! Almost comical. Fortunately the fast packs on it are staying in place as well so I'm not complaining. All said, I'm relatively pleased with these but they'll be on E-bay real quick if Bandai ever releases theirs or Yamato releases 1/48's.

They mean a few things to me 1) That my wife is somehow going to give me crap for spending money on "toys". 2) That it's gonna take me just that much longer to save for that bass I want (not the fish, either ) 3) That I'm getting things that I like which remind me of my childhood.
