Voted yes; like the scheme and the manga heads do look like interesting new takes on the original stuff. Best part is that if Yamato is toying with the M the First license, we can look forward to a SDF-1 "almost" TV style. The arms of the TV + the detail of the DYRL? = awesome. Any color pics of the MFirst SDF-1?

Wow, you can say that again! And his second video has even more. Don't know if we are still in the "panic mode" part of the life cycle of a new release but getting discouraged to get MP Rodi from what I'm reading on TF2005. And I'm one of those people that gets frustrated with "everything must align PERFECTLY!!!" transformations so this thing doesn't sound like a toy for me.

Yeah, it’s a good sign that the gimmick has been externalized. Only thing that makes me worry now is how much of the design budged will go towards making those big ugly piece of plastic and if that will reduce the number of parts the designer can use for the transformations. BB must be a gold mine because I find it a waste of a Leader spot. How many BB are there? I really can’t tell them apart anymore. -
R.I.P. Wizard Magazine (1991-2011)
Twoducks replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
You are right, that post is ancient! Weird considering that around that time his work started going downhill: A few months later his incredibly bad sequel to his brilliant “The Dark Knight Returns” started coming out after all the hype that was created for year by none other than Wizard… Remembered that Wizard started "Black Bull" comics. Read the Ennis limited series "Just a Pilgrim" , knew about a horror type ongoing and then never heard about BB again. -

Sorry, I didn't express myself fully: I know he is right about the way Hollywood works, It's just that pretty much everybody knows it. Heck, the "Hollywood executives are there to rape wonderful ideas" is so old that it is basically a stereotype; we've seen in TV and movies for years. So I find it extra whiny of him to go so radical about it like he is enlightening us all with something new; sounds more like he is just dodging the blame for "The Spirit" instead of facing the criticism he has been getting for years: “your current work is BAD, work on that”. To tell the truth, a few years back I actually went googling to see if Wizard was still being published. Internet pretty much cancels any need for a monthly printed version of news regarding superhero comics. I also remember their pricelist, which at first you hated because it ate almost half or more of the mag. But if you read the little insert in every page you could learn something interesting or get a good WTF laugh. -
R.I.P. Wizard Magazine (1991-2011)

Wow, I feel old. I used to buy Wizard on a religious level from the late 90 to the early 00. Loved how fun the thing was. It was a way to know what was going on in the superhero world without actually having to buy all the comics. Very informative too, especially when it talked about the history of comics and the must read classics. Then it became favorite writer/artist hype wagon (at one point it could be called Brian Michael Bendis: The Magazine) and the jokes got a bit dull so I let it go along with almost all the comics I read. Heard years latter that it had gotten worse, but still, it was an important part in me getting into comics and in knowing a bit of what the hell was going on at the time. Why is Miller so pissy poo? If anything, Wizard hyped his good work for years (Dark Knight Return, Daredevil run, and Sin City). His last good comic was Sin City, and that was mostly due to the art stile used, because the rest was just gratuitous violence and his now trademark females written as whores. That he is just a crazy joke of his former self is widely known. -
The Patlabor is one of their best products ever. You won't feel disappointed. But better clear display space; it's also one of the biggest robots out there.
-
Well the thing is almost 4 lbs and very big. http://robotjapan.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=SOC&thread=17099&page=1#214435 http://www.zoids-fan.net/zoikino/review/yamato_shield.html Heck, now I know that the Yamato SDF-1 really is overpriced. Here we have a product from the same company made out of more expensive materials and almost of the same size as the SDF and yet you are looking at 150 USD less shippped. Yamato seally didn't have any fait on their SDF, even when they sold three batches of their incredebly expensive model before they did the 1/3000 True, the SDF transforms... from a robot to a robot that is laying down... not really comparable to the magic they pull off on their valks. You can always wait. The great Patlabor stuff from Yamato is 50% off now; this could go the same way.

The Amazing Spider-Man, on Blu-Ray/DVD Nov. 9, 2012
Twoducks replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Don't remember if it was in the comics or one of the cartoons, but Parker created web not just because of his brains but also due to the spider’s instinctive combination of enzymes. So the spider in him “told him what to do”. In the Ultimate version, he reverse engineers some gluing compound or so that his scientist father was working on before he died. -

I'm also liking the new aestetic. Always thought that the Maguire Spidey was too bulky/buff for a supposed super agile hero. And could those be artificial webshooters?! The pic looks emo but that is part of Spider-man ("sob, sob, my life sucks, I quit for the 89th time!"). The other is him being happy and letting out steam by talking the bad guys to death with crappy jokes. Hope I see this second part of him in the new movie. The Maguire trilogy had him very serious with very little time for him joking around while doing superhero things (and that is not even counting the "Emo-parker parts"). Hell, the frigging Goblin from the first movie was the one that made me laugh. -
Where the hell does that vf-19active come from and why has it become my favourite recent VF design? F*ck MFrontier valks, I want that thing in THAT scheme.
-
And that right there is why mecha porn in 2D beats CG. Too bad that trailer pretty muchs gives everything away... Bandai, move your A$$ and make a NZ-666 Kshatriya MG or robor damashii. Damn robot has had the most screen time in Unicorn.

Ooooooh, so the official release is naked VF and optional upgrade set.

Graham, can the feet/shoes be tilted like they do on the Wave version? Still on the fence on this one, I really want the TV version, (be it 100% accurate or just repaint with the ship) but the DYRL? looks very nice... and then I think of the price and feel stupid for thinking about getting both if the TV ever comes out A pity the detail is lost on the pics, in some I can make out a lot of detail. Some paneling would make the SDF look great.

The uglier the box the better. Toys should be set free and those trashcans need to eat too.

Wow, and here I thought it was impossible to make the Daedalus attack look sucky... HLJ has it in stock now. The question now is... Will it have knee articulation? (Anybody remember that MW flamewar? )

Love those. And I add: "Full Metal Alchemist" - fantastic and fun series that just ended recently. Loved the characters. Blows the unfaithful first anime adaptation out of the water (the second one does follow the manga). "Gantz" - was very intense until the new "extreme" arc started. Might drop it soon. "Battle Angel Alita" has great artwork that IMO surpases Shirow's stuff in a lot of places. The Last Order part is dragging a bit now for me.

Hell yeah! Why bother looking like a gigantic robot if you can't throw a punch? Wait a minute, I've just found the reason why I can never take the DYRL? over the anime one... if it doesn’t punch, a robot fortress is just meh. Even the Macross 7, Frontier and Quarter do it!

Twoducks replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Same here, too bad the character is sooo crappy compared to whatever version you want to pick of Megatron (and there are a lot to choose from). Hope the new script does something decent wih him (in TF fanboy terms "BadassTrukk not EmoMunky"). Anybody else see the face of an old man with a comically huge nose and mustache in that supposed Sentinel or whateverPrime? -
Doesn't look like such a big step forward compared to the Nograde 1/60 Strike Freedom IMO. The PG Strike blows the 1/60 Nograde Strike out of the water. More articulation, yes, but the last PG seem redundant compared to the MG (specially when Bandai asks $200+ for them) and even the simple 1/60 Nogrades.

After how incredibly lame Megatron, the obedient boot licker of the "scary" Mr Fallen, was in the last movie it would take a miracle for me to respect him again. I bet that if you look closelly you'll see cut marks in the toys arm to represent his new mental state. MegaEmo will at least meke for a really good Leader class I hope. Not very difficult considering the crap they made before... -
Bandai DX Chogokin YF-29 Durandal Valkyrie
Twoducks replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
If that is the real scheme, that centailly looks sexy. Would have liked a VF-171 a ton more but still, pretty colors. Firt time I look carefully at the new design. Before I thought that it was a redesign VF-27 with 25 parts, not the other way around. Bandai could have saved more money by using the DX 27 as the base since the design is a lot more solid than the 25. Plus, it has only been used for a single recolor. -
Real Steel (AKA 'Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots' the movie)
Twoducks replied to electric indigo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Good, FINALLY we get a movie with giant robots other than transformers! They aren't that big but at least it's something (I don't expect a masterpiece, just some robo-porn). Damn Transformers made a fortune years ago and Hollywood has yet to do their usual copies. -
Same here. I was about to cancel but that review feels like a very good commercial
