  1. Funny thing - I am at exactly the opposite place from Mike S. This is exactly the RG I wanted to see. It's a series with no RG coverage, which I have some attachment to (going back to the Cartoon Network broadcasts), and it's a suit in dire need of an upgrade in this scale. For my personal taste, I have never liked the standard Wing Gundam, despite owning several toys of it back in the day. The crazy over-the-top bird wings of the Zero Custom completely float my boat, though. Different strokes for different folks, I guess - but I'd also love to see a RG Deathscythe Hell!
  2. As much as I love the Sharon Apple -> Vocaloid connection, I think it's probably an overstatement to say that Macross Plus inspired "holographic" concerts. The basic technology behind those concerts is actually really old, and has been used in major attractions like Disney's Haunted Mansion since the 60's. Massive light, laser, and effects shows obviously predate (and probably inspired) Sharon Apple, and the idea of a virtual idol doesn't come just from Macross Plus; William Gibson, for example, had started the Bridge Trilogy before Macross Plus was released, and Idoru was almost certainly underway by then. I'm just saying we should enjoy the "defictionalization" of virtual idols like in Plus without trying to actually attribute them to Macross. Besides, I am still waiting for the truly holographic and interactive concerts we saw in Plus and Frontier!
  3. Is that Chie mini-album new?
  4. That Hi-Nu is a beast, Hikuro. I love it! I... can't even fathom the PG kits. Very brave.
  5. I finally got around to getting some decent shots for a Unicorn Gundam Gallery.
  6. I think the confusion here is around terminology. In my experience, modelers use the term "decals" to refer exclusively to waterslide decals, and never to things that have a tacky adhesive, like you find with RGs. The latter are usually called "stickers," although there is also the term "seals" that I have only ever heard used by Gundam modelers, and seems to refer to either all sticky decorations, or maybe just the thick paper ones and not the thin clear type (maybe someone can help me out with that). Lastly you have dry transfers, which are sometimes also called "decals," but always with the "dry transfer" clarification; these are the type used with some MGs that you rub onto the model (these are not technically decals, because they don't include a substrate layer).
  7. A black and yellow decal could work if you painted the background white first. Alternately, I just checked ebay and saw plenty of small Bruins logo stickers. It would just be a matter of carefully applying it over the many segments of the Acguy chest section. I agree that painting something like that freehand would take tremendous skill, but a lot of the logo and jersey details could probably be made using the thin Tamiya masking tape. Then you just spray or even possibly hand-paint over the mask.
  8. I love the forced perspective and the way you got the gun lighting up.
  9. You have to see it in motion. If that video didn't work for you, try this.
  10. Nice! I expect the PG version to do that; get on it, Bandai!
  11. Bah, that's old news. I read that they were introduced in late 2007.
  12. If it were in stock, you could pick up the basic version girl and the space-version ship for about the same price as the DX!
  13. Oh man, whatever it is, it has to have a sweater. If the Manager Gundam can have a "suit," Mrs. Iori's mobile suit gets a sweater.
  14. Oh, I'm no expert in feminine mobile suits. Maybe another Acguy variant, because it has those extend-o-arms to give her opponent a big, (s)mothering hug?
  15. I think that's missing the (albeit crude) joke. Besides, that Nobell we saw went down like a punk in one hit. I want better!
  16. Such great stuff going on. The Titans Mk. II looks very mean, and I love of the Zeta Plus. Really appreciate the mini-reviews, too! My Unicorn mostly wrapped up mid-week, but I haven't quite finished the weapons or done a photo shoot with it. But I saw a friend who is a big Zaku fan, and it inspired me to crash-build the RG Zaku II that I've had lying around. It took basically my entire weekend, but it was (mostly) good fun. I took pictures as it progressed, and made a little gallery here.
  17. How about a Build Nobell Gundam modified with a pair of forward-mounted GN drives?
  18. Compared to the RG RX-178, the RG RX-78 is a lot fiddly-er. The construction involves more tiny parts that are used to create different shades of color across its armor. It's fantastically detailed, perhaps even exceeding the 178, but a bit more of a hassle to build, and very prone to having parts pop off when posing it. Personally, I enjoyed building it a bit more, but I don't like messing around with it now that it is built.
  19. I think it's whatever Valkyrie that has Max in it.
  20. Exia is looking great! I didn't appreciate until your picture just how huge that blade is. Seems funny to me that it even packs beam sabers with that thing. I haven't seen the show or handled the model, but I was assuming from pictures that the shoulder-mounted sabers would be grabbed with a "scratching my pit" motion, i.e. raising one arm upward while reaching across with the other. Not sure if the RG can manage that. The funny thing to me about the armpit- and small-of-the-back-mounted weapons is that the Exia may be the ideal Gundam to put in a giant trenchcoat, a la Max's Valkyrie. It's carrying concealed weapons! Oh, and my Unicorn is coming along nicely. (I fixed the assembly error in the ankle after seeing the photo)
  21. My copy should be waiting at home today. Been playing the "beta" version for about five months. I haven't played much of any other versions since 2nd ed. This one seems very old-school, back to those roots. I dig it.
  22. I don't know; my dislike for LaBeouf might be counter-balanced by what a good job Brad Pitt usually does. And, more importButantly, what am amazing chance to see those vehicles in action. Most war movies have used other vehicles mocked up as their historical counterparts; I can't think of a single example of a real WW2 panzer of any type in a post-war film, let alone a Tiger. I could gripe that the Bovington Tiger is much too early an example to appear in a story set in the closing days of the war, but, realistically, the Germans were throwing in any vehicle they could get working at that point, including Tigers bodged together from a mix of old and new parts (and, if memory serves, the Bovington Tiger itself was repaired with a Tiger II engine). The M4A3e8 itself was a pretty rare bird in Europe, only showing up at the tail end of the conflict and in small numbers. But it's plausible from what I can see; it would probably be the first pick for a special mission, since it was the best US machine at the time, discounting the handful of Pershings.
  23. Neat! I suppose that tells us something about how "hot" the Sharpies are. My guess is that the Tamiya Clearcoat dissolved the Sharpie, so what you get when it dried is a finish with the adherence of the Clearcoat. By comparison, doesn't dissolve the Sharpie and dries on top of it, so what is adhering to the plastic is just the Sharpie underneath (which is fairly weak). Nils is looking very sharp there! I hear you about the engineering, though. I had much the same impression building the HGUC Ez-8. It was a big step up from the Gundam Wing kits I remembered from the late 90s, but just not even in the same class as the RGs.
