The computer and electronics super geek thread
TangledThorns replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It is good but I built a new PC over buying a laptop as I don't plan on gaming when traveling for work or pleasure. Also, its OK to drive your Porsche in the Winter as it has AWD. I drive my F-Type during the Winter and it handles better than my wife's Subaru in the snow, lol. -

Sorry, I should have mentioned it was through my carrier Verizon. I had to trade in my Pixel 7 and upgrade to an Unlimited Plan which was about the same price and features as my current plan. -

Pixel 10 announced today. Preordered a Pixel 10 for free by trading in my three year old Pixel 7 with an aging battery. Couldn't pass it up! EDIT: This was through Verizon. -

Oh then you should be fine for most if not all mATX cases then. If you like adding more capacity there is mATX mobos like my MSI MAG Mortar Wifi 850M mobo that has three NVME m.2 slots. -

For gaming go straight to 9800X3D. On a budget, then 9600X. 9600X3D is supposedly going to be released by the holidays too. https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/amd-ryzen-9-9950x-vs-intel-core-ultra-9-285k-faceoff-it-isnt-even-close -

I recently built my first PC in over ten years too. Went with 850M mATX as I don't think we need larger systems any more since almost everything is built into the mobo or can be installed on it, namely NVME drives. Going 4K means more pixels which means more power in GPU, minimum is a RTX 5090 these days imo. Recommend going for 1440p which is a nice medium with OLED displays. See my recent post in this thread on what I built. Also, take your time do a ton of research before making your purchase. There is a wealth of Youtube videos that helped me in my decision and build plans. I think I spent over two months researching before I settled on my build parts. EDIT: I found Christopher Flannigan's videos to be easy to watch and learn from for my new build. https://www.youtube.com/@ChristopherFlannigan/videos More edit: Recommend MSI mobos right now, they seem to be leading the pack when it comes to stability and features. Don't cheap out on important no name parts like the PSU and fans. Check out ID Cooling for cooling parts, they're way more affordable than the competition too. Last, skip the RGB crap. RGB does nothing for your system's performance and can add frustration if it doesn't work right. Learned that from my old system and skipping RGB for my new build made it soooo much easier. -

Like the good reviews here. I'll watch ALIEN: Earth as soon as we're done with The Righteous Gemstones. But now I have to avoid spoilers, lol.

First weekend of the BF6 open beta is almost over and I'll say my experience has been very good imho so I pre-ordered THE PHANTOM EDITION. BF6 has BF3/4 vibes but its different in the same way BF3 was different from BF2. I'm excited for the future of BF6 and can't wait for the next open beta weekend and ultimately the final game release.- 7040 replies

Try the used market, eg Facebook marketplace, to save money and you can haggle some. You'll have to research on what you find available though. -

BF3 open-beta was the Metro map only so having a few maps in the BF6 open-beta is nice. As for the graphics I think its dialed back some because its a beta or because of the destruction.- 7040 replies

The MW Automotive Thread 5.0 GT
TangledThorns replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Speaking of Jaguar someone backed into the front of my F-Type last week. It was parked rear in and thankfully there wasn't much damage. The front license plate was dented and scraped with a small scratch on the PPF towards the front of the hood. Again, thankful I had PPF installed but don't see a point in replacing the scratched piece just yet and hope it can self heal with heat and time. PPF and vinyl wrap can be bad for the paint if it stays on a car too long so I do plan on doing a fresh PPF or vinyl color wrap change several years from now. Replacing the license plate was $10. What also annoys me more is the expensive DRONE XC dash cam I had professionally installed last year sucks so much that I didn't bother turning on parking mode the day my F-Type was damaged. I've been looking at other dash cams but they all seem to suck too or isn't compatible with my F-Type's small windshield, ugh. So I think I'll research into a dash cam replacement next year. -

Got a few games in the Battlefield 6 early-access beta and its definitely faster paced than BF3/4 which may or may not be a good thing. Maps seem way smaller too. I definitely preferred the pace and size of maps in BF3/4. Graphics are good but not great compared to what I've been used to but I have to guess its because of the destruction that they had to do this. Maybe the final game will look better?? Again, I'm only a few games in so its very early to give any real verdict but its definitely not a clown show like some assumed it would be.- 7040 replies

Yeah, 32Gb is the new minimum for a new system or laptop. I'd recommend 32Gb even for casual users too. -
IGN gave it a 9 which is relief but I didn't read the review to avoid spoilers. https://www.ign.com/articles/alien-earth-review

There is some great advancements in SFF/MFF with mATX/ITX mobos this year, next year should be the same. I expect a huge transition away from ATX sized mobos next year. Plus RTX 50xx Super GPUs are expected later this year too. -

Jokes aside I'll be seeing this film when its released in the theaters. The AVATAR films are a 3D spectacle that we don't see much these days since the trend ended years ago. Probably bring along my eleven year old daughter for her first 3D experience. I'd like to bring my son who is 8 but don't know if he'll tolerate sitting in the same seat for three hours, lol.

Dang, I think you just spoiled the sequels. lol. But yeah, I expect space or something in the sequels. Eventually this will have to come to a conclusion or they are going to milk Pandora till it has a Starbucks in every tree.
