Kind of a touchy subject but thought I should share as a PSA. I've been clearing out my sci-fi stuff (books, comics, toys, etc) since 2020 that I've been collecting for almost 40 years to make space in my house. Either by selling or giving away the items for free. It's been mentally freeing to reclaim space in my house for necessary things and less visual clutter. I was also motivated to be rid of stuff since I had to clear out my mom's small apartment before I placed her in a rest home. My wife and her siblings went through same with her parents in recent years too. My wife and I agreed we don't want to put our children through clearing out our stuff when our time for residential care comes too. We also agreed not to buy each other stuff as presents and prefer experiences (spa, restaurant, trip) as gifts instead. Want vs Need basically. Moving forward some of the folk who taken in my sci-fi collection were practically hoarders. However they were not the typical disgusting people you see on TV with spoiled food and cats poop all over their house but toys, books, etc taking up floor space, covering furniture and dining table, whole garage and bedrooms. Kinda cool to see toys that were decades old but hugely concerning that they were blocking most of a hallway in a house that was neglected in maintenance too. My point is you have a huge collection be aware "you can't take it with you" and someone (eg family, friends) will be left with the burden of disposing/selling of it someday and it can be costly, financially and emotionally.

I risked it by not reserving a seat to save money (about $5 IIRC) and was able to find a good single seat at the theater right before showtime but price was still about $15 which is still high imho. This is why I don't take my whole family to see a movie, lol.

Just saw Dune chapter 2. It was good and didn't drop a beat from the first film. I could tell they went out of their way to save money without looking cheap. Amazing SFX though. Observation that the theater was packed for a sci-fi film that is more high brow than repeat super hero movies.

+1 Sean Young > Zendaya but that is just based on looks alone, lol. Zendaya is still a good actress and is fine in her role.

Andor (Star Wars: Andor) - Disney+
TangledThorns replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just read in Wiki there is supposed to be a season 2 however it looks like the writers strike had a significant impact on its production. That's not a good sign as I recall many films and series story and production quality plummeted after the last writers strike in 2007/08. A second season, which will conclude the series and lead into the events of Rogue One, began filming in November 2022, was halted in the first half of 2023 due to the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes, resumed in January 2024, and wrapped in February 2024. It was expected to release in August 2024,[24] but because of delays in production due to the strikes, the release has been reported to have likely been pushed back to sometime in 2025.[25] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andor_(TV_series)#Season_2 -

Guess I'm gonna have to sign up for HULU soon, lol. -
Bingo! Another reason why I recommended DUNE should have been a streaming series it wouldn't be tied down by MPAA ratings.

Hersey!! But yes, that rule applies to almost all fiction.

I'm first episode into MASTER OF THE AIR and its way better than expected. Very thrilling air action, the cross winds over Greenland is about as scary as German fighter planes!
-
DUNE 1984 does a better job of world building TBH. That is also why I think a streaming series would have been a better idea. Plus it would have give MAX much needed non-DC sci-fi content.

Hopefully it goes after my company's IT guy first, lol.

I can understand that. DUNE 1984 was supposed to be the next STAR WARS but didn't pan out however I think it was a well made film. Same goes for the new DUNE films. That being said I hadn't read the books but I think it should have been made into a streaming series instead as there seems to be a lot of material to do so. I know they are making a DUNE prequel series so lets see how that goes too.

My new 2024 AWD Jaguar F-Type 75 in Carpathian Grey after XPEL Stealth PPF, window tint and ceramic coat installed. Total cost was about $7300 USD. Was looking at a C8 Corvette for several months but decided on the F-Type as it has a better warranty and AWD for traction in case out driving it in sudden snow. Plus I think the F-Type looks better than a C8 too 😎 Before XPEL Stealth PPF installed. After XPEL Stealth PPF installed. -
HBO/MAX's Raised by Wolves was a live action sci-fi series with similar alien world themes of Scavanger Reign that I enjoyed, but I guess it was too experimental for most audiences before it was cancelled.
-
MAX is well known for their excellent drama series but their non-DC sci-fi line up is lacking.
-
Looks more like TRON: Uprising which is a good thing.
-
Just finished SCAVENGERS REIGN on Max. One of the best sci-fi animated series I've watched in a very long time. Doubt there will be a second season tho.
-
I read Count Zero and Burning Chrome back in the late 1980s but never finished Neuromancer. By the time I started reading it 20 years ago I was becoming jaded with most sci-fi books because reality was already turning into a cyberpunk dystopia.

Oh jeez. This could be really good, lol.
