Battlestar Galactica Discussion III
kaiotheforsaken replied to kaiotheforsaken's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Very good point. I know I'd love to see Baltar as something other than just well..Baltar, but I think he's more or less had his trial by fire. And like you said, him being alive kinda dampens that. -

I still don't buy the Galactica being the dying leader thing. It's more like an Ark than well..Noah, for the sake of the analogy. We have a perfectly viable, dying, human leader already. I don't think it needs to be so abstract. Hell we don't have any idea what Bill is taking (those pills), maybe he's dying too? Who knows. I really love how despite all the theories, the writers give actual plausible explanations for things. It really isn't like, oh god just poofed things into being or something or willed it to happen. My dislike for Ellen is gone at this point too. Her floozy, manipulative...well lousy traits have all vanished in favor of her "true" self. She's much more likable now. -

That thing looks great, will be scraping the pennies together for it, no question. -
The Transformers 2 Thread--A Michael Bay thread

VF hit a lot of things on the head in my opinion. Transformers never really was the pinnacle of story telling. For the most part (Beast Wars/Machines excluded) it was a basic story set there for good awesome robots to fight evil awesome robots. Transformers has done a lot worse than the live action films. Most of the animated series that came after Beast Wars/Machines sucked pretty royally across the board. Though animated has done a good job in making up for that. Transformers has dozens of different incarnations. I don't see why people have such a difficult time accepting this into the fold. As someone who grew up on Transformers, I can honestly say I loved the first movie and will probably love the two that follow. Seeing Optimus duke it out with Megatron on an IMAX screen is awesome no matter if they are hyper complex "realistic" versions or blocky old school ones. -

It is jazzed up for the previews, it's supposed to hook you not tell the story. Still this weeks preview is pretty revealing in of itself (much like the one where Callie died). There are plenty of people who don't watch the trailers to keep everything completely surprising. Just common courtesy to those who wish to discuss the show without having anything spoiled. -

Assuming there are any left. Even though technically, the Final Five are from Earth. -

Hybrids, be it the bath tub ones, or ones like Hera don't fall into the 12 known models, nor do the centurions. The 12 models specifically refer to the humanoid ones. As a refresher that's: Cavil, Leoben, Simon (black doctor who worked on Starbuck), Boomer, Six, Doral (reporter from the miniseries), D'anna, Tigh, Tyrol, Anders, Tori and . In response to Chewie ; -

Laura didn't technically lead them to Earth. Ultimately the path was pointed out by 3 of the final 5 and discovered in the end, by Starbuck. I think the ship itself falling into that specific prophecy (or any really) is stretching things pretty far. -

Doesn't the prophecy go: And so it will come to pass, a dying leader will know the truth of the opera house, I'm not sure Galactica has a mind of it's own to know the truth with. Though I suppose there were some lines in Pithia that hinted at a dying leader leading the people home or some such, referenced way back in season 2. In either case, I'd say Laura's failing condition (she still hasn't gone back onto the deloxin or other treatments) seems to pretty strongly reference her as what they are talking about. I could however see the Galactica being somehow tied to the First Hybrid's prophecy somehow. The line about "And they will join together in the promised land. Gathered on the wings of an angel. Not an end, but a beginning." Though I suppose our final Cylon could fit that role now too, much easier than Galactica itself. Though I don't think the line refers to Kara as many initially thought. -

I seriously don't believe there will be any movies. I think BSG will end at the end of S4. I'm not sure you could drag out the "finding a home bit" into movies as well. While it's hardly definitive, almost every cast member interviewed has spoken about the end of S4 with such finality that I don't think a movie is likely. That capped with the fact that we'll probably lose Laura and I wouldn't put it past them to kill Adama either, doesn't lend itself to a movie setting. We've also got 6 episodes left, a lot of people can die, and the more that do would seem to provide less and less of a reason for a movie. From what I've read the last 1-2 eps are planned to be at least 90 minutes, possibly 2 hours a pop, that's probably the closest thing we'll get to films for BSG. In my opinion, the show doesn't lend itself well to movies, there are too many entwining plot threads. The fanbase is large, but I don't think it's large enough to justify the cost of a full blown film while also requiring movie goers to be current on the plot. -

As far as we know, that technology doesn't exist in the Battlestar universe. There's been talk of them finding another planet (shot in the same location as the algae one from S3) and I imagine that will be the case. For the sake of argument, the people needing earth under their feet and blue sky over their heads is probably a very high priority. Artificial (if it exists in BSG) probably isn't gonna cut it. Also, despite the some of the elements of the show, it's always felt very grounded and real, building giant space colonies doesn't really seem to mesh. -

Seriously, I like Anders, so hopefully he pulls through. Glad to see Helo managed to stay in the land of the living after that beat down. I'm sort of curious how next week will play out. The trailer hinted at what a big chunk of it likely will be, but we have the hull breach (I think anyways) in the engine room, as well as some injured regulars. Also how will the fleet react, what will we do about the Quorum? -

I'm not sure how that would work seeing as there are already confirmed genetic differences between Earth Cylons/Cylons and the Colony Humans. -

Heard he is supposed to be some kind of satellite ultimately. But They could probably do alien jet and satellite based on some of the crazy transformations these things have in the movies. -

That's kinda the point though, this is the time when humanity is at its lowest and all we can do is fight and bitch and shoot at one another. They've found several worlds on their journey that could support a community, whose to say they can't find another? The bottom line is that if the fleet doesn't get its act together we'll either kill ourselves or be killed be something like...Cavil's forces. True, Earth may have been a bust. But who has kept them safe (relatively at least) and alive this whole time? Well it sure as hell isn't Tom Zarek or Felix Gaeta. It seems like the civilians, and hell even most of the government, don't recognize the accomplishments of either Adama or Roslin. Their loyalties are so easily swayed by some pretty words from a guy who started out in jail and branded a terrorist. I say the fleet needs to have faith in the leaders that have kept them going thus far, at this point believing in them is about all we can do. It irks me that humanity hasn't managed to grow up at all through this. While we don't see it, one can assume that humanity has had just as much of a brutal history as our real life one. We can so easily forgive the things we do to ourselves, murder, genocide, wars, etc. But God forbid we as a people attempt to mend things with "the machines", especially now that they might be our only chance of surviving as a species. Granted this is a little more fresh in peoples minds, but at some point you have to set aside your personal feelings, because at this rate, we'll just wipe ourselves out. The whole toaster thing irks me too. I don't know how public the knowledge is about Earth's inhabitants, but regardless, the Cylons aren't machines. You don't cut open Athena or Tigh and find wires. They regularly pull this "were you programmed?" crap with the living breathing Cylons. I'd like to point out that things like instinct, what we find attractive in a mate, hell breathing even are all essentially programmed responses. This....well dehumanizing of people is just another thing that sort of disappoints me about humanity on the show. Still I love it so, hopefully at the very least, humanity becomes a better species because of what has transpired. Provided we don't kill ourselves first. That was kinda ranty, so apologies about that, just things I think about when I'm watching the show. -

I really have no sympathy for the mutineers at this point. Like humanity hasn't taken enough kicks in the nuts, now we are killing and fighting amongst each other. While the population really can't afford to get any smaller, people like Felix and Zarek need to be shown the airlock. It was good to see the women pull their crap together, Laura's attitude the past few episodes have been really annoying (even if partially understandable). I also like that Tyrol got out of his funk a little too. -

I don't really think Baltar was presenting himself as a diety. Now what his followers think is a different story, but his preaching has been about the "the on true god". He's the only preacher for his church so to speak, but I think it's evolved to be more about his message as time has passed. Everyone's beliefs are falling apart at this point. Be it those who believe in the Lords of Kobol or the ones who believe in the Cylon/one god. Also as I love Lego and BSG I approve of the link above, that is some cool stuff. -

Nah I'm not hoping for a super downer ending necessarily, but I don't think it'll all be wrapped up with a nice big bow an be happy and uplifting either. This is BSG, no one stays happy for long . What I meant about people dying was this; Humanity is at it's lowest point since the attack, maybe lower. The people are tired, worn out, their hopes of a new home (that have kept them going for 4 years) are gone. But we are also at our weakest, D'anna seemed very certain that Cavil would hunt them down, and I'm inclined to agree. Yet we have people like Felix and Tom Zarek spreading discontent and uprising amongst the fleet and this is exactly the wrong time for it. Lets take a look at the tilium ship that high tailed it this past episode. Where would they go? Did they even consider what might have happened had they been captured, or destroyed or not able to get back? The fleet would have been stuck and humanity would have died in space either from lack of resources or destruction by Cavil, or even just self destructing. I want humanity (and the Cylons) to survive this in some capacity, but I really think people like Tom and Felix need to get airlocked for what they are doing. -

From what the cast has been saying and the way the show has always been, you may not get that ending, or anything close. From my point of view, people need to start dying. I like Bill and have come to like Laura a lot too. What they have managed to do for humanity on the show is remarkable. It always seems to me that they are constantly under appreciated. If they allow people like Felix and Tom to have their way humanity will surely be doomed. Still, it was a good set up for next week. -

Maybe bald is his thing now? Still not much happened this episode, though I think I finally have some context for those new webisodes they did. In any case, next week should be much better. I'd like to see Felix get the axe though either D style or someone doing it for him. I really never liked his character, and it's compounded more by this episode. I'm often surprised how soldiers in the show (despite the circumstances) act in a very on soldier like fashion. Admiral Cane would have brained Felix in the CIC for some of the crap he said. She wasn't my favorite either, but we could us some of her no BS attitude at this point from the Old Man.
