New Star Trek Movie In 2009..
kaiotheforsaken replied to bandit29's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
My Dad was kinda feeling that way the first time we saw it together. After the second time though he didn't feel that way at all. Personally, I think hitting reboot at the end of the flick would have kinda negated the entire premise. This gives us an entirely fresh start. The film is well received and has done well financially. All these factors (and the fact Paramount already had the next one contracted if this one hit it off) means that the Trek franchise is alive and well. I just don't think it would be able to maintain any kind of foothold with new audiences if they just did remakes from this point out, or were bound to the pre-existing time line. -
R-Type Tactics for PSP > Macross patch?
kaiotheforsaken replied to MilSpex's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I've never seen anything like this done for an .ISO. PC games like Doom regularly have their code and/or tools available for the mod community to create new content. Handheld titles have basically no mod community in that sense and as such you will probably never see mods of this nature. Not to mention R-Type Dommand didn't do so hot (though I personally enjoyed it) so there is probably even less of a chance of it happening if it were at all possible. -
I think the complaint was more about the ruthless aspect. This is a machine designed to kill, that is its only function. If the enemy Terminator had gotten that close to John or Sarah in T1 or T2 they'd have been dead before you could blink. In T1 when they have that scene from the future of the Terminator infiltrating the base, he just slaughters everyone. He doesn't pick people up and throw them around or any random crap, he pulls out his gun and kills everything with a pulse. The only reason for a physical altercation involving a Terminator, should be against another Terminator where conventional/available weapons have little to no effect.

Well you can really only work with prequels in Raiden's case, which potentially limits how many games you can get out of him. I like the happy ending, I'm fully human again and have a family thing they did for him at the end of MGS4. Still between Big Boss and Raiden you could probably get to about MGS8 if you really wanted to.

I think it's the Titanium one

While MGS5 may be a given, I don't think that "use of the game engine again" is really a valid reason for it. The engine is fantastic and Konami can and likely will use it (or some variation) for any number of next gen titles. I'll still likely get whatever this new MG title is, they just need to keep the quality up, especially if Kojima is heading up other projects and stepping back from MG.

I saw it as well and I'm with UN on this one. The movie had essentially...zero point to it at all. It was almost like the big wigs just said, 'well we haven't done Terminator in a while, might as well see if we can milk it some more". The action was pretty pointless, the characters were shallow and there was some lousy acting to boot. Other things like the seemingly limitless supply of military hardware (like military installations wouldn't be high on the nuke list for Skynet?), lame implementation of the Terminators and nukes going off all over the place with Hueys just flying next to them like it was no big deal really sorta killed it. It didn't even satisfy as a popcorn flick in my book, I just kept thinking, "what the hell?" Shoulda just seen Trek again.

New Star Trek Movie In 2009..

The comic seems sort of pointless imo. The story in the films works fine on its own. -
Frankly Snake's story is over as far as I'm concerned, and it seems like Kojima has said the same. There really isn't much need to have any pre-MGS post MG games. If this really is just a strait up MGS5 it sounds like Konami just wants to print some more money. I love MGS, but the best stories have an end and they ended things on a perfect note. I wish they'd revisit something else for their next big game.

New Star Trek Movie In 2009..

Agreed, I actually love that shot when the Narada comes out of warp when it's chasing Spock. Thing looks so menacing. I think I'd like to Imax it this weekend, but I may have missed the boat on that one. -

I actually loved the new warp effects, I think they look really slick. -

Interestingly enough the trailer shows several F-22s flying towards the pyramids. Now these could be attacking Decepticons or something, or they could be the other seekers. I suppose only time will tell. -
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Toys & Models.
kaiotheforsaken replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't believe so. Resin kits seem pretty limited to the two Viper types and occasionally a Raptor and toys for the ships in the new series are almost non existent. If there is a Blackbird out there, it's probably a limited cast or one off fan made thing. -
Had to wiki those, but that certainly could be the case.

he's referring to the new short trailers that are out and can be seen on michaelbay.com. There is a shot of these really small, like marble sized, robots. I don't think there has been any hints as to what they are though.

Personally I hope it's something other than a new Metal Gear. I was never that into the MGS games until 4, and after seeing just a little bit of what 4 offered I went and bought/played through all the previous title multiple times and then went headlong into 4. Personally, I'm not sure any game ever is as good as MGS4. It tied up everything so well that there doesn't need to be another one. I know Kojima has said he'd be fine with someone else taking the reigns on Metal Gear and telling new stories, I just don't think it'd work. What's Metal Gear without Snake, or Liquid, or Otacon or anyone else?

New Star Trek Movie In 2009..

It seems fairly irrelevant in either case. Either Kirk has a brother and they can opt to use him later for...something, or he doesn't and nothing really changes. -
From my understanding they half-assed the Soundwave toy pretty heavily and he has only a passing resemblance to his on screen appearance. Still some of the new TF2 toys look pretty solid. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I'd be very interested in a movie MP of Prime or Bumblebee or something. Some of the new movie figures look pretty darn good. I'd just be interested to see what MP engineering would get us.

Evangelion 2.0: You can (Not) Advance

Personally I like the updated and new designs for...well..most of the remakes/reboots/revisions whatever that are around. If you didn't add something new and different both visually and story wise...well then there wouldn't be much point. As far as merchandising goes, I'd like to see EVA get more on the robot side to be honest. Finding nice, detailed, high end products of the "mechs" themselves can be kinda tough. I definitely don't care if they make another statue of Rei in her underwear though. -

Firstly the model looks great. As for the backdrop, I didn't even notice the wrinkles until after I read your post and went back and looked. -

I think they mixed in just enough time travel to back up the whole "this isn't your father's Star Trek" line from the trailer. They have that one scene that describes the alternate reality thing and it's like BAM, deal with it, we're in new territory now. I hope this stays in theaters a while and gets put on Bluray mighty quick. -
I'd like to pick him up and the new leader Prime, which actually looks pretty damn good. I might wait for a Takara release on Prime though to see if they have some nice improvements.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Toys & Models.
kaiotheforsaken replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I have some of the smaller kits from Starship modeler. They are nice, but lack some detail that would have been easy enough to include (panel lines and so forth). Plastic kits are pretty much non-existent for the new stuff which is a shame. I know Revell (I believe that was the company) re-issued their old school kits within the last year or so. You can find larger scale resin Vipers out there, but they are pretty limited runs and start at around $250, but they are about 15 inches long. As for toys, the Titanium Vipers and Battlestars are probably your best bet for toys. Decent detail and the Galactica comes in a few larger sizes. There were some nice statues of the ships released too that were around 100 bucks a pop. -

I'd honestly suggest seeing it again. My Dad had the same issue with the time travel thing the first go around. We saw it again this past week and he enjoyed it even more and was able to pick up on the elements he missed. -

The other one is supposed to be Skywarp, he at least has the colors for it.
