The Transformers 3 Thread--A Michael Bay Thread
kaiotheforsaken replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Date confirmed for TF:3, July 1st 2011 http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/new...onfirmed/17060/ I'm sure there will be bitching galore. But I for one am excited to see what they're cooking up. -
Tenacious D is also awesome, they just don't release enough music.

Yes and it is hilarious. I love that band and all their crazy antics.

Best Movie Badguy of all time?
kaiotheforsaken replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Exactly, that's part of what makes Batman such a great character. Despite his hero status he could be viewed as very damaged himself. Aside from his limitless wealth, I think he is easily the most identifiable super hero. And in an effort to stay on topic, the T-1000 would also be on my list of great villains. -

I don't think anyone has answered this yet, but I BELIEVE it is so they can more easily ensure and detect thin or flawed areas in the paint application. -
Best Movie Badguy of all time?
kaiotheforsaken replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think Ledger's Joker was really well done, basically for the reasons Mog stated. To me, Batman has never been about super villians, I mean Batman is probably the least traditional popular superhero. He's just a really really rich dude who likes to fight bad guys. Similarly, Batman has always seemed at least slightly more grounded to me, many of the most iconic villains are twisted, mentally broken individuals that don't seem so far fetched (obviously there are exceptions). Best movie villain of all time, I'd have to say Vader is definitely high up there. I'd throw Kahn (from ST:II) and Agent Smith in as well for really great villains. -
I saw that trailer before some movie....can't remember what it was now. In any case, everything except the crazy wall crawling spider grandma looked at least semi interesting.

Valid points, I guess I had just been exposed to Half-Life (mainly) some years prior so I was a bit spoiled by PC gaming FPS games.

This x100000, I really never saw what all the fuss was about.

The All Things Video Games Thread!
kaiotheforsaken replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
A buddy of mine picked up the new Batman game this weekend and I gotta say, I am floored. Fun gameplay, a decent original story, nice graphics and classic voices from the animated show of the 90s really make this a fantastic game. Oh and tons of collectibles and homages to all manner of things in the Batman universe. -

Dragon Age looks really awesome. I'm looking forward to it, and it should be a nice holdover until ME2. Picked up the Wipeout HD Fury pack on PS3 last weekend, probably the most fun I've had with the system since MGS4. Looking forward to the new Ratchet as well. -

Video game company blunders
kaiotheforsaken replied to Wanzerfan's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
While I do like 3rd strikes ability to chose from various super moves, gonna have to disagree with you about Ken in IV. His tactics, especially flowchart, are pretty easy to counter and to punish. His bag of tricks wears thin pretty quick. If you put much stock in tier ratings he's pretty average overall. I like SFIV's graphics a lot, but traditional sprites are still really nice, especially in BlazBlue. -
They never said it was a salvage ship, "mother ship" was about as close as you got to an official designation, and that was from Christopher himself.
-
Yeah, I hadn't seen it before, but I really liked the short. Makes me want to go see the full length thing more. Now I'll just have to see if anyone I know wants to see it.

The dialogue at the beginning of the film suggests a hive like structure for the prawn society, but not in the same sense as ants with only one leader in total control. They implied a group leadership of some kind, and as evidence by Christopher, there are prawns with high levels of intelligence that don't have direct control over other prawns. The prawns that survived on earth were by and large worker status (Christopher and his son, being exceptions) and this really doesn't seem all that surprising. A worker would likely need to be able to be more resistant to disease, injury etc simply to carry out tasks it might have to do. The prawns didn't come in peace at all, it was more or less established that they never really had any intent of stopping here to begin with. However due to disease and the death of the command structure aboard the vessel, they basically were forced to stop here. What the ships actual role is/was and where it might have been going are completely unknown. But it would be safe to assume that a space faring race with the ability to travel across the galaxy, would bring weapons to defend itself. Hive social systems being highly advanced is nothing new to sci-fi. The Buggers in Ender's Game, for example, were highly advanced and had one being (the Queen) controlling billions of individuals. Yet they had advanced weapons, spacecraft and other technologies. Just because ants or wasps haven't built space ships and mechs here, doesn't mean there aren't ants or wasps building spaceships elsewhere. edit: typos and such

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?
kaiotheforsaken replied to Macross007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
While I'm not a giant fan of live action cross overs or even Akira, I do see a place for these live action adaptations. There are many people, at least here in the US that pass over anime (be it films or series) simply because it's an animated show. So done right, I think that these types of live action projects could be real advantageous to exposing more people to the originals. Sadly most are a half assed attempt to cash in on current fans of a given IP. -

She's an over rated, wealthy, only semi-talented bitch? -
I wont put much stock in HG getting a bug up their ass about this. Frankly, the mech in question may not even make it into the actual game, they may have just used very iconic mechs for the trailer. Secondly, the design may have deviated enough at this point that it wont matter. Hopefully this has little effect on the games release date or anything like that.

Based on what the DLC actually is I'm surprised they released it at all. I love Mass Effect, but I think I'll pass on some bland arena style combat that has little to no story.

What if what I think tasty wheat tasted like actually tasted like oatmeal or or tuna fish?

Not that I that I don't agree with Mr. March but reading that post I can't help but think of this

To be honest, the first time I saw it, I didn't even notice I was so engrossed in what was going on. Second time I paid attention and it's there, but I don't really find it bad at all. It really adds to the feeling of being right there in the action.

I'm not sure whose career it'd break. Cameron has basically secured his legacy in film, this isn't going to change that. The dude from Terminator: Salvation was well...in Terminator: Salvation, so he couldn't fall too much more off the radar. I think Sigourney Weaver is in this too, but again, she doesn't do much anymore and she has secured her film legacy. I'm intrigued by this and with the good Sci-fi we've gotten this year I have high hopes.

They actually had the auction televised and it did in fact net half a million US. They had dozens of ships for sale, made me wish I had the disposable income to buy even one of the smaller ones. Though the had a special prior to the auction about items selected from the gigantic warehouse full of Trek stuff and they didn't mention the Ent-D being in a restaurant. They actually talked a a healthy amount about that piece since it was the largest of the Ent-D studio models and gave a nice history of the piece and design of the ship. Whether that bit in the restaurant is true or just omitted when they spoke about the piece, I guess I couldn't really say. I find it unlikely though based on the volume of things they had. Paramount had basically saved everything practical in this gigantic building from TOS to enterprise and it seemed like almost every existing studio model was in that collection.
