I wasn't really a fan of either new cruiser design, and ultimately just went classic Constitution for mine. But I seem to be in the minority on the beta. Most people are flying around in the new designs, or at least with pieces of them. I just hit level 14 so my progression in terms of the beta is coming to a close. I'll probably still mess around and try to learn as much as I can even at 16, just to be as prepared as possible for early start.

You know, before STO was being developed by Cryptic it was in the hands of someone else, and they had this very idea. As I recall the studio completely folded and Cryptic acquired the license. The problem with your idea is that well...no one (or very few) people are going to want to reroute the deflector dish to emit an inverse tachyon pulse and not see the action going on. That gameplay concept essentially turns everything you do into a "dungeon" or "raid" activity. The difference between and Galaxies is that there are only a few Jedi in "modern" Star Wars, though they were on the rise after RotJ. The Federation, on the other hand, has thousands of ships and everyone needs a captain. It makes far more sense that everyone would be a captain. Personally I think that if they had gone with this model, it would have failed miserably. There was a game...I cant recall the name, that was released some years ago that was basically an RTS, one person built and controlled units, while other players took individual 3rd person control of said units...the game was a total failure. Not exactly the same, but similar in concept. In an RPG, MMO or not, everyone wants to be the hero in some capacity and I think Cryptic has found a totally justifiable way to go about this.

I've been investing a lot of my free time into this game over the last few days and I'm pretty impressed. I honestly don't find the away missions bad at all. Even if it is rough around the edges the fact it's there is huge for me. The "crouch" mechanic is actually the "aim" mechanic and it provides a boost in damage, that's really it's only function right now, but it isn't some arbitrary thing. Quite frankly I like the fact that there isn't and "auto-attack" ability during missions ground or space, it makes the combat feel a bit more involved. While I agree they are missing some very classic ship designs, I imagine we'll see them added eventually same with other major races being playable (like Romulans). The largest portion of the game, the space combat, is really wonderful imo. It feels exactly like Trek should. Is the game perfect? Of course not, but I think it's a damn good start. Its biggest downside right now is that it will be competing directly with Mass Effect 2 for my gamer hours.

That I will agree on. I've only had one group where someone asked who was tanking, and when someone volunteered he flew in and promptly got destroyed. I think finding a group of friends or a good fleet is going to be the way to go. -
I'm definitely not changing my Shepard. His eyes looked a little odd depending on the lighting, but I think the improved engine will make short work of that. A shave/haircut is about all most people I've talked to seem interested in.

I've been playing since last night and I rather like it. It's different from other MMOs I've played but I just love geeking out in the Trekverse. The combat feels like Trek and the whole game kind of reminds of ST: Legacy...only what Legacy should have been. I have a few friends that are in the open beta as well, but haven't played with them yet. That being said I've been in groups for missions and fleet actions so far and it's a lot of fun. David, There are classic ship classes with classic components available. I'm not really sure about Excelsior (though I know it isn't listed) but they DO have the Centaur as one of the starter configurations....so they are already half way to an Excelsior anyways. Also seeing as it's an mmo, adding additional ships even if just to appease a fan base would be fairly simple I would think. At least we still get Constitution, Galaxy, Intrepid, Defiant and Sovereign classes at launch. That all being said...I wish we got Excelsior as well. -
Well I appreciate the vote of confidence I know that the spoiler for ME2 I DO know, was sprung on me by accident. I don't want the same to befall other fans.
-
I went ahead and just removed it, it isn't worth inadvertently ruining someones enjoyment. David, hopefully I didn't leave anything untagged that dampened anything at all.
-
Nope, you can chose your class again and alter your look, even if you are loading a ME1 save. Just to be safe post has been butchered.

There we go, finally the soldier reveal. Cant wait for this game.

The new trailer for Transformers: War for Cybertron is up. It looks pretty nifty actually, despite no gameplay being shown. Though Megatron's voice is probably the worst version ever. They should at least bring back Hugo Weaving if Welker isn't on board. At least they got Peter Cullen. Find it here: http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/54928/t...iler_10710.html

Framerate and loading apparently are big issues with the PS3 version, apparently the game was made for 360 and then ported to PS3...badly. Performance issues during fights is the biggest gripe.
-
Garrus and Wrex were definitely my favs in ME1. I'll probably favor Wrex over Grunt in ME2 but that last slot could be up in there air with all the new characters.
-
I actually dont know if they have specified. I know the inventory is supposed to be streamlined and easier to use however.

Level 60 was one of the perks they mentioned in a dev interview. Exactly what the perk is, I don't recall them saying, but having a maxed character is said to have definite benefits.
-
As the post above me said, you really only get bonuses for your levels....and potentially your equipment. You wont be starting ME2 with a full inventory at max level. Even if that's what Shepard has on the save you carry over. Your choices within many of the quests both major and minor will be the most direct carry overs. Your paragon/renegade level is also said to at least boost you in one direction or the other when you start.

He's right, her hair is her clothes and some of her weapons as well, it's very odd.

huh...I wonder what kinds of things you'll be able to get. Hopefully it's not just armor with Dr. Pepper branding on it or something

To me DMC is the grand daddy of that genre, or at least that style of combat in a game. Everything that plays that way, from GOW to Bayonetta is kinda riding on what it laid down, for better or worse. I may eventually pick up Bayonetta, I mean it's made by the same guy who brought us the first DMC. Now is definitely the time to play it though with ME2 dropping in a few weeks

Darksiders is really great in my humble opinion. Through some retail connections I got to play it a bit earlier than Tuesday and it's a lot of fun. The more time I spend with it the more it reminds me of Zelda with bigger swords and lots more blood.
-
I'm on the fence about it. It's so much like Devil May Cry, but without Dante and his bad assery that I'm not sure I'll play it. Been playing Darksiders instead.

To be fair the people who were perfecting the digital effects were doing a job, to support themselves. Not sitting in their mother's basement living off of cheetos and mountain dew. And yes, not all mmo players are like that, I'm not like that, but I imagine the comment was directed at that subgroup.

The Thing Prequel written by Ronald D. Moore
kaiotheforsaken replied to chowyunskinny's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I like the RDM bashing going on, even if you didn't care for the new BSG, the guy has written and/or produced some of the greatest televised Sci-fi ever to grace TV. He was heavily involved in DS9 and TNG and wrote some of the most beloved and classic episodes. He also had a hand in First Contact, which is easily the best of the TNG movies. The guy writes good stuff. I'm looking forward to seeing what he cooks up with this.
