From various things I've read over the years concerning William Hurt, he was a very intelligent, and rather odd fellow in person. But his presence onscreen was always notable; the guy was good at his craft, and as someone who enjoys the films in which he's appeared, he'll be missed.

Likewise. Would have preferred it be a cutout on one side. Being a double slope on an incline, and knowing few parts are designed for just a single use, I'm curious what else these are going to turn up in. I know the 90th anniversary set is going to be a significantly large castle homaging Classic Castle, so it's a fair bet those bits will be part of that. Always cool to find old toys, especially in good shape. I like that M-Tron MOC.

Agree. It was a cool, original take, and the fact that something that's more action figure than traditional can actually transform and look that good in car mode is notable. Yep. Well, aside from MMC's Azalea, which did a superb job of collapsing most of her car parts into her shoulder pods and leaving little backpack of note, yes. Unfortunately, G1 Arcee wasn't designed practically, which is likely why, despite being a prominent character in the '86 Movie, she never got a concurrent toy. I'm still pretty happy with the T30 fig- she, too, has a lot of backpack, but I think they could have cut it down a bit had they left off the rear section of her car mode. The recent ER and Cyberverse Arcee figs both carry the entirety of their car modes on their backs with little to no transformation involved. It's more like Solid Snake and his cardboard box. Animated Arcee is notable for her minimal back kibble- she has her little windshield and her shoulder pods, and both her arms and legs are involved in her transformation- great interpretation of the character and fantastic toy. Thanks Derrick.😪 At this point, though, the expectation of most G1 Arcee figs is that she'll have some measure of backpack with which to contend. MMC's Azalea is my go-to for an Arcee done right, at least from an engineering perspective.- 9360 replies

Dude! I took a second, harder look, and you're totally correct- those bits slope and seem to have a cutout. LEGO have been making a lot more useful bits like this over the past few years, and it's great to see. Nice to see those huge profits going back into improving their product. Looking forward to getting this set. I passed on the Ideas set, mostly b/c of the inaccurate hood, but this looks amazing. Positively chomping at the bit for that Tallneck. Hope more Horizon game sets are coming. Too, I'm anxious to see if the Optimus Prime rumor is true- man, I hope so. And I hope it's G1.😍 If they have the Transformers license, my total LEGO dream would be fulfilled if they got a Macross license as well. That would complete the trifecta of my favorite things : LEGO, Transformers, and Macross. Hopefully, for now, the Transformers thing proves true, and subsequently, it brings with it a spate of new joints that make creating transformable robots more practical.

Good eye; I didn't even notice those, but yeah, they appear to be 4 stud wide versions of this. Useful, to be sure. Curious if there are any other new elements in there. Speaking of new elements, I'm pretty certain there's a new joint brick coming in the upcoming Tallneck set, similar to PN 41533 . Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck 76989 | Other | Buy online at the Official LEGO® Shop US If you zoom in where the front or back legs connect, there's a flat faced dark bley brick into which the shoulder/hip joints attach. Definitely something new or they brought this out of retirement. Either way, as a mech builder, it's good.

So this is a definite 'want' on my list; sucks that it's another damnable exclusive. My hope, as usual with these things, is to catch it on Pulse before they sell out. Guess I'll be keeping tabs- I missed out on Kingdom Blaster and haven't seen him in stores on the rare occasions that I pop into Target. Hopefully I'll snag him in Legacy packaging. Edit: Got my copy of Kingdom Perceptor today (Friday), and I'm a bit underwhelmed. He looks like the G1 toon in bot mode, but his legs don't tab into anything to stabilize his microscope mode (ratchets at the hip would have helped), his scope is a bit too small, the secondary transformation joints in his thighs are a bit loose and lack even a detent to soft lock them in the proper position, his back has a gaping hole where his head goes in alt mode- in just about every way, a step down from the TR version. Bit disappointing.- 17639 replies

I agree. I get the sense that was a one-off, at least for the foreseeable future. They've never even made one for the regular SW line despite making several regular SD sets. Unfortunately, if you want an SSD, you're at the mercy of the secondary market, which will be ludicrously expensive at this point. In other news, LEGO announced their 90th anniversary set, and it's going to be a castle. I was so hoping for a Classic Space set. Glad it wasn't Bionicle at least, but there was just a large and rather nice castle released in the Creator line in 2021. No love for CS it seems. 😒

Thus far, no announcements of such. However, the regular UCS Star Destroyer is still available, although it's currently out of stock on LEGO.com. LEGO stores may still have it though.

Agree that the majority of characters were less memorable than other films within the genre. I liked Jeffery Wright as Lt. Gordon. I don't think he was promoted to Commissioner yet. But I liked that he was pretty much Batman's only ally on the police force, and b/c of his position, he was able to use his authority to allow Batman into crime scenes, even if it does seriously violate crime scene preservation protocols. I liked that you knew he was sticking his neck out for Batman, although why that is isn't explained. A little history for that trust would have been nice, but maybe we'll see that in the sequel. I didn't like how Riddler was portrayed at all- they went too far afield from the traditional character, and I wasn't crazy about it. That said, I don't want Jim Carrey's interpretation either. Ugh! I thought they nailed it in Arkham Asylum- those games were pitch perfect for characterization. Bruce Wayne was a bit under-represented, but given the character's history and previous exploration in various films and other media, I think we the audience understand the essentials. The Tumbler is indeed an awesome Batmobile- so unique and recognizable- it can't be mistaken as anything else, and I love that the filming vehicle was practical; it did many of the stunts we see in the film. The Batman's car just really didn't do much for me. As I've said, it felt more like a Fast & Furious car than a Batmobile to me.

Saw it last night, and on the whole, enjoyed it. I liked the increased emphasis on his using his detective skills, an important part of the character that often gets sidelined in lieu of his combat skills. The car was ok; I maintain my stance that it could have been featured in one of the newer F&F movies and no one would have batted an eye or likely even suggested that, "hey, that would make a good Batmobile." As to the engine situation, I imagine 'rule of cool' is primarily responsible for the flames coming out of so many orifices; however, it stands to reason that it likely has a standard engine up front and the completely exposed rocket engine in the rear. It's obviously not a turbine engine, so it would have to be a fuel driven rocket engine. Anyway, I was hoping at least for a grapnel or some such gadgetry in the car to set it apart as a Batmobile, but it was just a muscle car with some armor/bullet-resistant windows. Meh. I think Pattinson made a good Batman- he had good presence in the suit, didn't growl out his lines, and showed some vulnerability- he genuinely seemed uncomfortable standing in a room full of glaring cops. His Bruce Wayne, too, was, as has become more and more the norm, reluctant to be Bruce Wayne in lieu of his alter-ego. Little, though, was made of his 'Drifter' persona that I thought might serve as more of a precursor to his donning the suit and cowl. Gollum, I mean Andy Serkis, gave a too-brief and credible performance as Bruce's most trusted ally, father-figure, and butler Alfred. Ain't gonna lie, though: Michael Caine takes the prize in my book for best live action Alfred- the wit and raw emotion he channeled into that role stays with me after the others have all faded. Michael Gough takes second for his droll wit and often amusing facial expressions.

Wow, excellent! Y'know, I could get behind a show done entirely in stop motion given the quality of today's toys, especially the legends stuff, which really lends itself well to the craft. Hat's off to the producers- it's a tedious, time-consuming, and meticulous art to achieve good stop-motion- I would have been thrilled with just the show intro, but to do a whole ep is really cool. My nostalgia's running high.- 9360 replies

The mirror on G1 Perceptor not only extended out far enough to actually reflect through his chest, but it also swiveled within its armature like the real thing so as to be angled to adjust the amount and angle of light shining through the slide tray. TR's take simplified things, but at least it was there for appearances. SS Perceptor seems to have omitted it entirely. 😒 Here's my old G1 Perceptor- don't mind the dust- with his reflecting mirror extended and angled slightly. I loved that he had working features of a real microscope- it gave a sense of purpose to his alt mode, which wasn't quite as exciting as a car or a jet plane. But I used to put stuff on his tray and try to examine it through the lens, granted the optics aren't exactly high precision, but for a toy microscope, it was pretty cool that he actually functioned as one. I lament that they didn't include those functions in the SS toy. Moreover the microscope mode on the whole suffers from a chintzy transformation; the point of the arms is to look like the supports for the lens barrel, but the SS toy has them spaced too far apart and serving no function to the alt mode. I'm often critical of jet alt modes and Has/Tak's lack of 'try", but any attempt to make this even close to accurate or realistic was obviously dismissed. As 80s Transformers go, his conversion was simple even by those standards, so the absence of care in SS Perceptor's alt mode design is dismaying and disappointing.- 17639 replies

I have SS Perceptor POed, but honestly, I think I like the TR fig better, stupid headmaster gimmick notwithstanding. With exception of better articulation, the TR toy does more of the things that the G1 toy did in microscope mode- the scope is adjustable and his reflecting mirror folds down (I don't see the mirror on SS). Moreover, he has more accurate bits that fold out for his unofficial tank mode, echoing the G1 toy. And as Mike pointed out, he doesn't suffer a huge hole in his back in bot mode. I don't understand why Hasbro didn't carry all those features over to this version- it would have made a good figure great.- 17639 replies

If it is, my apologies for the misunderstanding. I neither speak Japanese nor read kanji and assumed it was for an anime. It's a pretty interesting design concept that would be tough to translate into a three-dimensional model or toy. The dissimilarity with any of his other works is intriguing- glad to see his creativity and imagination are still going strong. And....I stand corrected. I changed the subject line to reflect. Thanks for setting me straight, guys!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1368910/Super_Mecha_Champions/ While I think a lot of us were wondering if Kawamori would do a new entry in the Macross series, it appears he's working on a completely new show, complete, of course, with a variable mech that's more along the lines of Aquarion or Escaflowne than Macross. Hopefully it proves more enjoyable than Juushinki Pandora (Last Hope), which, IMHO, was mired in too much metaphysical mumbo-jumbo and made further cringeworthy when the pilots of the various mecha have to achieve a sort of one-ness with the quantum engine powering their mecha to assume full humanoid form. Normally they just go from vehicle to a sort of GERWALK mode via what I assume is the flip of a switch. The whole quantum angle had me rolling my eyes, especially when they achieved the three-way transformation with a single lever in the valks. Anyway, the new mech looks cool- different, but cool, and I'm assuming there'll be a reason for that ring that's formed in flight mode.

I've been greatly anticipating the release of the new City Space sets and set out to my local Wally around 7:30 this morning, only to find that all the Space sets and most of the Speed Champions were already sold out. I did manage to pick up a copy of the two remaining Countachs, which is a pretty cool build. Anyway, I returned home quite dismayed. Fast forward to this afternoon: I spent the day with a friend who's working on a very large spaceplane MOC which he's taking to Bricks Cascade, a large LEGO convention that's happening 9-10 March. Upon taking my leave, I stopped by a Wally near his house, and they had the Rocket Launch Center, the Lunar Space Station, and the Lunar Roving Vehicle. I saw no sign of the Lunar Research Base, so I'm guessing that'll be a Target exclusive set. Anyway, I picked up a Lunar Station and Rover, which I'll probably build tomorrow. I was super-tempted to grab the Rocket Launch Center, too, but since I have a buttload of VIP points, I think I'll wait and get both the RLC and the Lunar Research Center at the LEGO store in Oregon using my VIP points to cover both. Those are the sets I want the most, so leaving it in the store was pretty tough, but that $150 price tag is a good persuader to wait until we go to the LEGO Store. Plastic crack is just getting pricier and pricier. I'm thinking current events aren't going to help. 🤕

Just got my POs in at Pulse. Been away from my computer all day, just checked in here to see what's new before turning in for the night and saw that the new figs were up for PO. Fortunately they weren't all sold out (figured Sludge would be for sure). Glad I popped in here as I didn't have a clue, so thanks!- 17639 replies

I'm a sci & sci-fi guy with an interest in both aerospace and space exploration. I'm also a child of the 80s, so stuff of that era has its appeal. And mecha and transforming robots, which are nearest and dearest to my heart and soul. None of these things since the release of the excellent Saturn V and Voltron sets have been making the cut for production. I think the Saturn V was the last Ideas set I bought, as nothing since has really piqued my interest enough to buy. I thought the typewriter and piano sets were interesting, but ultimately, I'd much rather display a vehicle or air/space craft model. Those things have far greater appeal to me both visually and in the handling/playability. The fascination with deteriorating buildings just doesn't grab me. I'm not saying I think they're bad models; quite the contrary, I think many of them are extraordinarily well-executed, and neat to look at. But the trend grows old, and I'd rather see more variety in the submissions generally chosen. That said, choosing the K-pop band over so many other far, far better submissions just boggles my mind. Hell, I'd take a dilapidated building over that. It just doesn't offer much in the way of building experience, historical value, playability, or wide-spread interest. I have a feeling it will do well in the Asian market, but here in the US, 99% of Americans will have no idea who these guys are. I don't; I had to look them up. Since Ideas is the only avenue for us to really get CS inspired sets, I wish there were more really well-done models in that vein, and that those models achieved the 10K threshold, but they just don't seem to. I'm super thankful for Pete Reid's Exo-Suit set, and I wish his or some of the other excellent CS-inspired submissions had been produced. As I mentioned previously, Ideas doesn't even have a mecha theme under which to make submissions, which I'm sure makes it more difficult for mecha builders, as they have to submit their MOCs under some un-related theme if they want to take part. Seems a huge oversight IMHO.

Review: 10298 Vespa | Brickset: LEGO set guide and database I'm not a scooter afficionado, nor a fan of powder blue, but I was pleasantly surprised by this new Vespa model in the Expert Creator line due to release soon. Normally this would have been an exceptionally difficult model to pull off with LEGO, but due to the spate of curved and rounded elements they've been producing over the past five years or so, this model benefits from all that rounded goodness. It looks amazing to my eyes, and it's one of those sets that I don't really want personally, but I want to build it for the experience, if that makes sense. LEGO have been developing the habit of rereleasing some of these sets in other colors, and I must say, this would be an excellent parts pack in black or white (I build mostly transforming aircraft MOCs, so those colors would be of great benefit to me). Anyway, this looks great, and I thought I'd share it.
-
I was hoping for Knight Rider, if only just K.I.T.T., or the jet engine model. Getting tired of all the old or dilapidated building submissions. Where are the mecha and sci-fi models? They don't even have mecha listed as a theme on the Ideas page, so I'm not sure what people who do mecha submissions submit them under. Anyway, it seems like the same sort of sets keep getting produced- either sitcom sets or some form of building, stuff like the typewriter and piano, or something like this K-pop band. The latter just isn't good criteria for a LEGO set, IMHO. I think the appeal is very limited. I've never heard of them, and I like to think I'm somewhat knowledgeable of pop culture. I see the appeal of this set being a very niche thing. Make more cool space stuff, b/c lots of people around the world like space, and there are always space related submissions. Just like the other "S" word, Space sells.😉

Sorry to hear about the blindsided divorce part, but you've made a homey looking pad on your own. You could certainly do far worse than choosing LEGO for deco elements around the house. Now you just need the UCS Batwing hanging on a wall somewhere. Hope your kids are appreciably nerdy and think you're the coolest dad ever. You've got legit cred with that decor. Nodding approvingly.

There's something fascinating about lived in spaces that aren't your own; I think it comes down to how we're all more alike than not. This could be a kitchen in just about any country. I see him hanging out on top of the fridge. I mean, where else would the King of the Monsters hang out? 😄 Digging the oh-so-subtle dentist's card there, too. So, Chris, I'm guessing, if your wife is like mine, the kitchen counter is merely a tolerated resting spot for your gargantuan LEGO set whilst seeking out a more suitable permanent residence. I assume you're keeping it together for display; that's a lot of work just to tear it back down. Where do you put something that, uh, Titanic? 😉

She was a beautiful ship, and it's a terrible shame that we remember her more for the tragedy than for the incredible engineering and building achievement she represented. It's a shame, too, that she and her sister ship, Britannic, both sunk, as to have had at least one of these marvelous ships surviving today, even as museums, would have been significant to historians and the curious. I don't own this model, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying it vicariously. Thing's huge, a fitting testament to her namesake. Love those potholders on the back of the stove.
