BOMBA!
-
It was a great show (though stay away from the Orguss 02 OVA, as it has about as much to do with Orguss as Macross II did with Macross). The HK set is great also, though the subtitles start out pretty good, and degrade over the course of the series. Mind you everything is understandable, but the name translations get somewhat odd towards the end. Still, it's highly reccomended, especially since it's the only way to currently get Orguss.

Robotech Re-mastered basically Animeigo DVD set?
Keith replied to sidearmsalpha's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
But is that enough? Couldn't they have added something like "Original Story by Studio Nue/Artland" plus whoever wrote Southern Cross? well, they did give Tatsunoko credit. heh. It's too; bad Tatsunoko never did anything but hire animefriend.... -
I'm sorry, but no, 0079 had nothing even remotely as juvenile as what went on in the first "20" episodes of ZZ. MOON MOON!!!! With that said, I did like the rest of ZZ, and as such, can look past its shotty beginnings. 0079 Is a far superior show though, as was Zeta.

Mospeada was done by Anime Friend. Yeah, but considering Amano did the initial designs, look how far they deviated...

I'd wager that Quadran Rau rounds, even after piercing through the Valkyrie's hull, would still come in hot enough to cotterize an entry wound.

The issue wasn't budget so much as time restraints. The Macross Production schedule didn't allow for Big West's chosen studio (Artland wasn't it?) to do the full work load, so they had to seek out help (Tatsunoko, and in turn, animefriend). As Orguss showed not a year alter, Macross could have looked so great for its full run.

Robotech Re-mastered basically Animeigo DVD set?

Actually, AnimEigo's disc's were single layered, ADV's I'm sure are dual layered, so there shouldn't be much difference at all in bitrates. -

So does your Robotech box set go in a lead lined case when you put them away with the rest of your anime collection? I really can't complain about the Robotech Remastered DVD's because it gave us all Southern Cross and Mospeada in remastered form and at a decent price. I'm most likely going to give away/trade the robotech DVD's, & keep the sentinels disc. And yes, HG did help with the remastering costs, or more accurately, put up an initial sum of money. AnimEigo however took the remastering well above & beyond the initial projected efforts, and wound up paying the bulk of the costs. -

Damn, I forgot all about that. While I don't want it personally, though some guys were asking about a Sentinels release in a thread a while back. I should have remembered to put that when I posted about the sale. Oops. Maybe it will continue again in the new specials starting tomorrow. I'll make sure I mention it this time if it does. I'm actually thinking about using the box it comes in too. Picking out some MPlus art, going down to kinko's having it printed out on some decent paper, and making my own Macross Plus 3 disc box set. -
If you want something hardcore, definately go for Space Cruiser Yamato. Also reccomended: -Giant Robo -Orguss -Galaxy Express 999 -Arcadia Of My Youth -Mazinkaiser! -Gundam 0079 Movies set followed by Zeta

questions about Macross DYRL and Zero
Keith replied to sidearmsalpha's topic in Movies and TV Series
The Protoclture ventured out into space, and found themselves to be the only sentien beings like themselves, so set about evolving & colonizing other worlds (could have sworn star trek ripped that off didn't they?) -

Over at AoDVD an ADV rep & an hg rep already went over the specifics a month or two ago. Baiscally: -It is indeed the AnimEigo remaster footage. -Fanservice shots will still be edited. -The scenes that are being added back in were already dubbed & clipped back in 85 for various reasons -HG & ADV knew about this whole thing nearly 1 yeara go february/march when they held off on the Mospeada & Southern Cross releases to remaster them. Reason being the remastering costs were to be split between the two seperate releases. -Audio tapes "thought to no longer exist" were found in a vault that contained seperate audio/vocal tracks that have been remastered into 5.1 dolby. -They waited over 9 months to tell people about this upcoming release, that has been confirmed to have been known about at the time the Mospeada & Southern Cross releases were held back. And finally, a confession....I ordered that robotech box 3 during right stuf's 9.99 sale just so I could get a copy of the sentinels on DVD...I feel so ashamed....yet it goes perfectly with my Space Gundam V DVD! -
I'm surprised they didn't release Victory right after Wing. It can stand up well without the other UC's, and the animation quality is pretty much on par with Wing.

This particular volume only has the directors cuts of 21, 22, & 23 (plus original TV edits of the same episodes). There's a second one due out in march that has 24, 25, & 26 (plus original tv edits of the same episodes). This is stuff that was out for the Japanese home release 5-6 years ago. Definately worth it for Eva fans, as it ties in things better with EoE.

Actually, I don't think we have that much to worry about with editing Seed. Taking a look at Sunday's adult swim, which included Space Ghost talking about banging dogs in the ass, and sprinkling his on urine on "retardo's" to cure them, the boundries of a few years ago seem to have been blown wide open....damn they need to put Home Movies on DVD.
-
Actually, there's a "special edition" that's un-edited & has the original Japanese with subtitles.
-
I'm sorry, but no. 0079 was animated much better than the anime friend Macross episodes. You kids need to learn to respect your elder animation. Go watch some Galaxy Express 999, Arcadia of My Youth, Space Cruiser Yamato, and see just how great show's were then.
-
Plus it has Kawamori doing the mini-attack sub designs. As well as a huge whale-ship thing with what looks to be the Yamato attached to it.

Bandai needs to hurry the hell up and announce Zeta NOW! It's been too freakin' long already. All things said & done, the animation quality is much improved in Zeta over 0079 (not that I personally have any problem with 0079, because I don't), aside from the coloring differences, the quality is lightyears above current U.S. animation, most definately watchable for the mass market. I'm not saying Seed's animation doesn't blow it away, but Zeta still stands as king in the story department. A very sad move on CN's part not to broadcast it, but as long as I get by box set, I don't care.

Random things you've picked out watching Macross
Keith replied to rewooh's topic in Movies and TV Series
My favorites are still the Christopher Walken sign while Roy is driving through the city in Pinapple Salad, and the Arcadia popping up in Love Drifts Away. -
Yeah, it's short, but it's cool. Only downside being the current box set release (given that it was originally released one episode per disc) has double sided disc's with 1 episode on each (meaning handle with care while flipping sides).

Whats your favorite dirty pleasure Scifi flick?
Keith replied to GobotFool's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just watched the special edition a couple weeks ago, and still can't get "Candy Colored Clown" out of my head....love that david lynch. -
Oh, did I mention that some have already sent in their sets for the fixed dsic, only to recieve another set with the exact same problems in the exact same spots on the 4th disc, plus a disc loose & scratched during shipping?

I reccomend you pick up the Orugss TV set. Seeing the robots of Mu called "timmy" in the subtitles is worth the price alone
