Tomino who??? Someone's confusing MGS with MSG. Yet more proof why I shouldn't post while I'm tired....although now that its mentioned, a metal gear styled Gundam story wouldn't be bad at all....
-
Another vote for the Snatcher remake. As for MGS 4, Tomino's been saying since 2 that there would be no more games under him, so we'll see.

Sadly, FX has been turning out shotty sets for a while. Word was that they started working with bad plant & never straightened things up. While some players have no trouble with their disc's, other players have major problems. Maybe it's the production, maybe its their technique for encoding, but the only FX disc's I've never heard of having problems were the 7 sets, and DYRL.

Macross 7 and Macross II Within a Shared Universe
Keith replied to wolframbane's topic in Movies and TV Series
Macross II has far too many plot holes & inconsistencies to be considered along with any other Macross story, let alone 7. -
Since the already existing disc's already have the extra's I want, (session 0 extras), but it'd be cool if they released a box...

Fansubs didn't even exist at the time. Didn't they.....

He actually does, the major influences anyway. Although I'm sure neither he, nor most artists, would list every one of their inspirations in detail, no matter how insignficant. At any rate, I think citing an anime feature as being the probable foundational inspiration of space dogfight battles in Star Wars on the basis of similarity in a non-unique theme is a gigantic reach. Not to mention that both Space Cruiser Yamato and Star Wars came out in 1977. That's not a whole lot of time to steal ideas for R2 and the Death Star battle, especially with the film nearly done already by the time Yamato was released. -Al 77 my as, try 74. Matsumoto did WWII sci-fi long before Lucas, and when you contrast many aspects, you can definately see the influences. Space dog fights, the great ship battles, and I'll be damned if R2-D2 isn't a direct nod to Analyzer, cmplete with getting the ass end of the repair work.

Is this documented that Yamato influenced Lucas, or is it just conjecture? Space fighter battles is hardly a unique concept. Not to mention that Lucas likely drew more heavily from WWII dogfights (which is documented) than the Yamato anime series. If Lucas wanted a "War" in the "Stars", and he was drawn to WWII imagery, as evident in other aspects of the film, it's not a far reach to assume that Lucas logically arrived at space dog fighter battles independently of an anime series that shares vague similarities. -Al Does Lucas ever admit to most of his influences? Though I believe it is documented that he has a substancial fansub collection...

That white RX-78 actually does look far cooler than I would have thought.

Kind of reminds me of the Devil Gundam. Thank you, I've been looking at that for 3 minutes, and it's been bugging me! BTW, where's the Lunamaria fanservice pics!

Tomino was indeed inspired by Lucas, though I prefer Tomino's take better, especially in regards to Newtypes over The Force. But then Lucas was heavily inspired by Kurasawa (Hidden Fortress) and Matsumoto (Yamato). Fighter based space battles (Cosmo Tigers), R2-D2 (Analyzer), and many other aspects of Star Wars ring of Yamato. Of course, Matsumoto didn't seem to mind at all (Tetsuro even reads through an ancient Star Wars zine with delight in an episode of GE:999).

I think we're also forgetting the fact that specifically because it would be based on an anime series, it's knocked several notches lower than an out of nowhere summer blockbuster. It would have studio stigma against it, wouldn't get a wide release or an advertising machine behind it. It'd be doomed to fail from the start. And seriously, even if the live action Eva movie is the most brilliant adaptation since burnt toast (mind you I'm not of the school that believes that will happen), who here believes it will be any remote kind of blockbuster success?

I wonder what will happen to HG after this new video release bombs....how much do you think they've sank into it?

The HK's weren't that bad. Aside from some name mix-ups, and a complete mess made of the meeting about the AFOS in the first episode, the subtitles weren't too bad at all.

Can someone explain this picture from Macross 7?
Keith replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
Anyone who feels Milia was inaccurately portrayed in 7 needs to re-watch the original series. This is afterall the same Milia who tossed babies, set stoves on fire, and of course wrote her own lullaby. -
Fan boys that don't want their niche titles to become popular? I'd love it if Macross became popular, to hear people discussing it, to be able to see 7 & Zero DVD's on sales racks, that would be awesome. But a live action feature would have the complete & total opposite effect. I'll say this, I thoroughly enjoyed the live action Cutie Honey movie, specifically because it was treated as a parody of something that was extremely campy to begin with. but accurately Honey it was not. And who mentioned Sky Captain, as that was a flaming piece of crap on wheels. poo story, weakly implemented FX (again, watch Giant Robo to see it done well), etc.

In some cases, definately. But stylistically, manga & anime are far closer to each other in nature than anime/U.S. live action, live action/u.s. comics, u.s. cartoons/comics, etc Oh I see, you're the authority of exceptions. And knowing is half the battle.

Nope, anime isn't just a genre, it's a medium. Some stories are told better through books, some through the stage, and yes, some through an animated medium. That's just the way it is.

If the Macross missed the Earth....when humans did become technologically savy enough to reach deep space, they would have had a severe technological disadvantage, and would have had their asses handed to them.
