Definately Galaxy Express 999, what you're specifically remembering are the movies: -Galaxy Express 999 & -Adieu Galaxy Express 999: Final Station Andromeda There was also a 110 some episode TV series that predated the movies, but it's fairly hard to come by, unfortunately only 36 episodes have been released on HK DVD. The movies are much easier, though conditionally so. If you have a DVD player capable of playing multiple regions (i.e. u.s. releases are R1, Japanese & European R2), then go over to www.DVDAsian.com Run a search for Galaxy Express 999, and you'll see 3 listings. There's a box set with both films together, that catch again being that the first film is encoded for Region 3. If you don't have a region switchable player, then go for the second movie (it's R1 compatible). It's got great english subtitles, so there's no problem viewing the film. And of course if you enjoyed these movies, you may also want to pick up: -Galaxy Railways (first volume was just released by Funimation) -R1 -Space Pirate Captain Herlock (Harlock) Endless Odyssey: Outside Legend -R1 -Arcadia Of My Youth -R1 -Cosmo Warrior Zero -R1 -Gun Frontier -R1 -Harlock Saga -R1 -Maetel Legend -R1 -Space Cruiser Yamato (available on HK DVD) -Space Cruiser Yamato Movie Box -R1 -Interstella 5555 -R1

While making that thing massive, I also hope they use thinpaks, classic or no, it doesn't need to be a shelf hog.

From what I recall, VFX-2 isn't so easy to copy.

That's what they call "thievery"

That's probably the most awesome aspect of the movie. You can see that the producers wanted to get out their aggression from being held under broadcast standards for so long. Even Galvatron totally frying Starscream was a well relished long time wish I'm sure. My only gripe is that Jazz lived (and my gripe not being the fact that Jazz lived), while in a later episode he's in the autobot graveyard-ship.

I watched about 2 min of it... Be it Robert E Howard's Conan (the original) or the either version of the comic, or the Schwarzenegger movies, Conan's power is partially from his unreal agressiveness. He didn't have that in the cartoon so it just didn't seem anything like Conan to me. I mean it was totally a different kind of character. 320739 Then you were lucky enough to miss the sequel cartoon where they teamed him up with kids...

No, we didn't get the VF-5000, we were supposed to in the final release version, but obviously that never came about. There was a special Japanese promotional level of the game that you had to send stuff away for (ask Graham, I know he was able to get it) that was the only version of VFX-2 to actually feature the VF-5000.

Ok A1, what about the Conan The Aventurer (I think that was the title) cartoon from the early-mid 90's, you know, the one where Conan hung out with the talking bird?
-
Considering Christopher Walken apparently owns a whole row of buildings inside the Macross, this is quite on topic.

Emilia Biyotch. All the hotness of Milia + tig ole bitties.
-
Man, you had to bring up Comic Strip, what'd that last, a whole 10 episodes? And I'm only surprised A1, I would have thought Thundercats would be right up your alley. Bad acting, swords, muscles, you are a swartzenegar fan afterall

After fighting with the streaming version, I took a look to see if the site that had the quicktime trailer for the first movie had one up for the second (it doesn't...), but hopefully soon. And Bandai owes us a sweet release on these films, I expect no less than what was done with the 0079 movie box (awesome & shiny). Wehther I can hold out until then is another matter entirely though...

2D just has a level of appeal that can't be achieved in 3D animation, that afterall is why it's there in the first place (as we've had 3D live action to comopete with it). It will never die, though like 2D games, it's at a definate lull right now. And Eisner be damned, they've got no one to blame but themselves for releasing all the sh!t that they've been putting out for their box office failings.
-
Bah, it was a 1-S, still in Milia's colors though And the inclusions on the 20th anniv DVD were awesome, my fav was the Get Free intro.

27, and I'm about the most anti-nostalgic you can get. I am a U.S. born Macross fan don't forget, and we're brought up to see past nostalgia (robotech) and aim for the true quality (Macross).

Not to sound cold, but If these animator's being laid off are responsible for such trash as the recent Disney sequels, then they're no loss to the 2-D cause. Over 50 years later, and these guys are churning out vastly inferior art to what Disney was doing back then. It's no wonder interest is fading in 2-D. Take a look at the Bambi special edition, specifically, the fire scene. The shading is so awesome there that if it were done today you'd swear it had some computer enhancement.

There were apparently 130 episodes, though I know I never caught anywhere near half either, probably more to do with bouncing the show around timeslots (5-6 in the morning was the hardest for me to catch). So far I've watched the first episode, and it's still fun. Definately easier than watching the first season of Transformers again (though it does pick up by the Second season), animation also holds up nicely. It does look like they're using the 2 seperate episode edit instead of the hour pilot, but with 4 box sets, it may still pop up as an extra. As for Silverhawks, unless the Thundercats release schedule picks up, I wouldn't expect it for atleast a year.
-
Does the set include the original hour long uncut pilot? It actually had the Thundercats hitting the mutants instead of hitting near them. It was later heavily edited into 2 episodes, Exodus and something else, with all the violence edited out. 318998 So far it looks like the two seperate episodes, but I haven't watched them yet, so I'll post later.

It's been a while since I've played either but... VFX-1 was pretty straight forward. An all girl singing group (the Milky Dolls) are captured by a group of rogue Zentradi, and you as a member of an elite task force are sent to save them. There's not much in the way of story, but the vocal themes were great. VFX-2 is a huge improvement, and definately good enough to be it's own OVA. In this one, it's 2050, and you play as Aegis Focker (no apparent relation), recently assigned to the elite VFX Ravens squadren. Things start off with a training mission, and the usual amount of new guy ribbing. Aegis begins to engratiate himself with the squad lead Gilliam on various missions (all codenamed after classic musicals), coming across what appear to be black market tech equipped bad guys equipped with a new jamming weapon that renders missile targetting systems useless. It's later discovered that they belong to a corrupt coorperation bent on universal domination that's comprised of allied humans & Zentradi. Aegis & Gilliam come across a very Milia-esque female ace (cmplete with a red VF-1J) that toys with Aegis, only to have Gilliam take off with her, & be branded a traiter by the UN Spacy. The next few missions involve run ins with the cooerpation & Aegis taking over as leader of the Ravens (with two co-pilots in to, choosing which to use is entirely up to you). Things lead to a head when Aegis is ordered to fight Gilliam (who turns out to have joined a 3rd faction all together), and is forced to make a decision to either fight him or join him (fighting him ends the game, and is the wrong choice). Turns out not only one of your co-pilots was a traitor, but the U.N. Spacy coommander (at least the head honcho who throws down your orders) was the main badguy all along. They (the bad faction) steal Battle 13 (in the same line as Battle 7), and pit it, a small army of the mass produced Ghost fighters from Plus, and the new missile jamming weapon against Gilliams small band of rebels. Obviously good prevails, but Gilliam dies in the process (in a sweet battle against a VF-22), and the universe is saved. Mind you this is an abridged story description in and of itself, and I'm sure that I'm leaving something out, but it's more interesting then I'm making it out. Fleshed out, it would have been a great OVA.

I had a couple of those with Lion-o years ago, forgot where I got them though, and lost them in an old HD crash...bastards.

I dissagree, Voices is directly & overtly inspired by Gunbuster. U-571 & Titanic share no such relation.

For those interested, Thundercats Season 1 Vol 1 just game out today. It's a 6 disc set containing the first 34 episodes of the series. By the looks of it, there will probably be 4 box's total, the next one not being out until December. I've only glanced at the disc's, but the video quality seems pretty good, a few specs & there, but nothing major, and it holds up pretty well. The box is cool too, has the same type of lenticolor card that the Macross box has (only attached to the front instead of free floating). Only downside is that there's only 1 chapter per episode, but that's livable.

Macross continuity - are the PCE games part of it?
Keith replied to snowboarder's topic in Movies and TV Series
Nope, though there is a fan theorized alternate continuity where they fit in with Macross II. -
Gunbuster wasn't a love story, did you miss the whole part about Amano & Coach? And if you don't tell me when I can & can't use second person metaphors. Last time I checked, speaking with generalities wasn't against the law. Or do you take everything read as a direct interpretation of your thoughts & beliefs?

Not killing someone doesn't make you an idiot, it makes you the good guy in the story.
