What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
Keith replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Blue Gender was definately a great series, still not quite up to Votoms standards, but not anywhere near as weak as Gasaraki. And the ending was just shy of heavy handed, what more can you ask? -
First Eva film will hit here in sept/nov, forget which. No clue if we'll get the latest cut, or even a bluray, but since Funimation has it, there's hope.

Actually, Minmay "did" have special powers, in that inadvertently, it "was" her singing that saved the day. Not through the culture shock tactic's it was used for, but by moving the hearts of a few, which spread like wildfire through many. Without the "contamination" of the 3 spies, the Britai Adoclas fleet wouldn't have defected (nor had reason to) against Bodolza. In turn, the Macross would have had zero backup against Bodolza, no inside info about the command structure of his fleet, and would have gone out with the Earth in a blaze of electric death. The war against the Zentradi wasn't won when reaction missiles were fired up Bodozla's rear, it was won when Britai realized he had no choice but to support his wavering troops, or face extermination by Bodolza. That's the part Macross 7 builds on, distilling the accidental effects of Minmay into intentional ones. It's not Basara's singing that "beats the monsters," it's hte passion that he puts into it that becomes too pure for them to handle. Some choose to roll with it & ride out the wae (Sivil & Gigil), while the rest rebel against it until the end. The message of the series being that unlike the first time around, even if you have bigass weapons to sneak up on your enemy with, sometimes they're bigger, not all scenariou's are winable through force. Basara won over Sivil, and wound up teaching the Protodevelin that they can produce their own sustenance through the type of passion he'd shown. As for 7 being tailored to the youngest common denominator, each series pretty much targets the youngers of their respective generations, while being broad enough for adults. If you're going to damn the whole super robot genre as "kiddie stuff," then you're going to have a crap load of Gurren Lagann fans (including myself) on you for it. Gurren Lagann sharring a lot in common with Macross 7, swapping out singing for drills.

Japan is also a hell of alot more "lax" when it comes to homages/parodies, & "borrowing" than we are, in a good way.

I think the major issue bieng missed here, is that Macross 7 has all the fundamentals of any other Macross series, with the addition of rockingly aweseome Basara-ness & hot blooded passionate songs. Since every Macross incarnation takes a different direction on the main themes, I really don't see why some complain. If you didn't like it, sucks to be you, you've missed the boat on awesomeness, but Macross is still Macross.

... Not gonna say it.

Yes, yes there is, it's called HG can suck it!

Considering the difference was literally only a couple dollars, and I intent to hang on to these, I'm going hardcover. Of course my girlfriend latches onto the "15 & up" on the back, at which point I stressed the "& up!"

In unrelated news, just got my translation of the first haruhi novel, and pre-ordered the second novel (out in september?). Hopefully all will make it over here.

What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0

All of the above suggestiosn work, never bend to the will of a loved one by sitting through a dub, it's your way or the highway. And really, 10 out of 10 girlfriends prefer for you to actualy sleep with them than watch anime late at night, crazy girls! -
WATCH THE EPISODE AGAIN!

This show never ceases to surprise me, not a lot of series could get away with congruent episodes back to back, but damn, I love the little mysteries they throw in. So much more entertaining than that episode of ST:TNG when they kept reliving the same day over & over before exploding, and I'm willing to bet the resolution will be much better tooi.
-
Or: -transformeing airplanes/robots in general -genetically engineered super aliens -fold travel -giant transforming battleships with super big beam cannons -"Genius" fighter pilots -The fact that HG keeps preventing more of this from coming out here based on sheer willpower...
-
Nope, only the desigsn were changed, the timespan is exactly the same. 2009-2011 for SWI

What lack of decency? The only fundamental differences between Basara & Isamu are -Isamu kills, Basara doesn't -Basara sings, Isamu doesn't -Isamu's a letch, Basara isn't. You guys get too hung up on the singing in battle over fighting aspect, and totally miss teh bigger picture.

Played with it a bit today, and stumbled my way into lobbies. After getting called "Gaijin-san" a few times, finally found someone playing Gundam Vs Gundam for success! Only problem I had was some pretty heavy lag, is there a setting somewhere to adjust that?
-
Maybe I've just watached too much anime, but I knew there was something up with that title!
-
Basara was too good a pilot to just use normal controls, if he had, the Protodevelin would have been hypnotized by his mad skilz, and sent Sivil out much sooner, resulting in a very short series. The guitar stick added extra challenge for showyness.

And chronic herpies.

Maybe it's more of an issue of reasonable doubt. People who believe he did those things do so on no real evidence of it, just as those who believe he didn't don't truly have evidence that he didn't. That's the whole point of a trial, if there's firm evidence to pin a crime on someone, than they go to jail, if there isn't they don't. As someone mentioned earlier, this isn't an OJ style issue with a history of domestic voilence, documented evidence, and a court trial that hinged more on racial issues then anything else. This is about a man who had his name ruined based on little more than conjecture from morally questionable people. Those hwo believed he was some weirdo because of the way he acted/dressed tend to believe he was a pedophile based on those parameters. Those who followed his career and accepted his quirks as just that, tend to believe he was innoncent of those actions. Personally, I fall into the catagory of the latter. If anything, had he been some normal guy who hung out with kids and had sleepovers, then yeah, I would be inclined to believe he was some demented pervert. Most (as there are acceptions to all rules) pedophiles aren't weirdo's who stand out in public, they're average Joe looking sports coaches, scout leaders, or bicycle shop owners who lull in Arnold & Dudley with candy, alchohol & pornography, then take pictures of them without their shirts on. They don't invite parents over to hang out with them too, build theme parks with crazy zoo animals, etc. A bit misguided? Yes, I think that was the whole point. but I believe more than anything, Micheal Jackson was someone who understood what it was like to have a childhood screwed with, so I honestly don't believe he would impose that on anyone else. I'm reminded of the whole matter of Paul Ruebens. Jeffrey Jones gets tagged for possessing child pornography, then makes a deal to help snag someone bigger, i.e. Paul Ruebens. So what happens? He stays over Paul Rueben's house under friendly pretences, uses "his" computer to download child porn, then turns him in for it. Who got tagged & dragged through the mud? Who walked away smelling like a rose?
-
And don't forget, without Micheal Jackson, emo kids wouldn't have anything to wear, nor would Cloud Strike, Kira Yamato, the list goes on!

You don't have to buy Basara, Basara doesn't care if you buy him or not, he'll sing to you and rock your heart regardless. -Guitar piloted Valkyrie is just a Valkyrie with an alternately styled control scheme, get over it. -No one ever died in battle due to Basara's singing, if anything, he protected lives by throwing another target out there. -No UN Spacy pilot could stop the Protodevelin, not even max with a bigass reaction missile, ONLY Basara could do it! When your enemy has a ibgger gun than you do, as well as the ability to take your biggest gun away from you and throw it right back into your backyard, no amount of fighting will save you. -You seriously act like you've never seen any anime outisde of Macross, faces on mecha are hardly uncommon, and your stance is an ninsult to the entire super robot genre, the most awesome passionate hot blooded genre of all!!! -You don't have to care about Basara, because Basara loves you no matter what you think, he's just that big a guy!!! -BOMBA!
