I don't know about anyone else, but I was arguing about it because an OVA isn't just a simple straight to video release, an OVA is a high budgeted, high production value series or movie release. It's basically the difference between Gunbuster & anything that Asylum releases. For the HG gang to arbitrarily call something they're producing an OVA, is an insult to the term.

Delusional robotech fandom is delusional, and you sir, are an OVA.
-
Robotech: Not original = Disqualified Robotech: Video - Dubious Qualification Robotech: Animation? = Sometimes characters lumbered across the screen in Shadow Chronicles, and more of the same is expected in the new thing whatever it is, but I'm still gonna disqualify it. But buttom line, wanting it to be an OVA so you can try and legitimize its anime status isn't going to make it so. Also, I'll say viola if I want, and you can't stop me!

The Transformers 3 Thread--A Michael Bay Thread
Keith replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Unless this is the hoax, and more Bay double talk, saying something's not going to be there when it clearly is trying to mislead everyone for no good reason!! -
And again, you apparently have no idea of what an OVA actually "is." Don't come here and tell me what an OVA is, I've been watching OVA's since before you were born. OVA's are a good friend of mine, and I can tell you that this Robotech crap thing is most definately no "OVA."

Actually, OVA has a lot to do with budget, bigger than TV, not quite as big as movie, and viola, you have an OVA. In general though, considering this isn't a Japanese production or release, it's automatically disqualified as an OVA. Maybe it should instead be called an STD (Straight to Disc), lol.

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time
Keith replied to JELEINEN's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I think what surprises me most about Asylum, is that they haven't made a Zombie Hitler movie. -
I'd also consider it dubious to call this an OVA, since it almost assuredly has a sub TV budget.

Ahem, major spoiler edits to your post maybe for those who haven't seen it?
-
That sounds incredibly probable, in which case I can't wait to play it!

Battlestar Galactica Discussion IV with Blood And Chrome
Keith replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Anyone still on the fence about picking up the series on bluray, Amazon now has the "good" box on sale for $132. it's sold out with a 1-2 week restock, but at that price, it's pretty damned tempting.- 698 replies

You saw "The Shadow Chronicles" right? And you're still asking these questions?? Regardless, on the Frontier issue, the improved animation was already put into place between the tv series broadcast & bluray release. A large number of these which Kawamori felt needed to be addressed were addressed. In regards to recyling footage for the feature, welcome to anime, it's actually pretty rare when a movie version of a series uses 100% new animation. The difference now being the TV animation is so damned high quality, it's not really justifiable to "not" reuse some. Back to the Robotech issue we're talking about a group of people who obvously has little to no idea on how to assemble an animated feature. And even when they did it the first time, they grossely over-estimated their product, clainning it to be "OVA" quality animation, neglecting to point out that it was circa 1990 OVA quality animation. But at this point, that's neither here nor there, just wait for them to finish and you'll see. This isn't hate on american animation, hell, I've loved most of the recent DC/WB/Bruce Timm offerings. But HG & Yune are going to have to pull a true miracle to turn o ut anything markedly better than SC (not a compliment). Hell, I'd be damned surprised if they didn't at the very least re-use their CG renders. You know, if HG & Yune were smart, they'd ask/beg Timm & his gang to help them produce a robotech animated feature inbetween their various DC projects. Which comic company handles the robotech comics anyway?

And all i'm saying is that news of a Yamato movie license would have hit any number of bigger anime news sites before Netflix, let alone Amazon or rightstuf. -
No no no, Submarine Street is clearly Queen's "Misfire."
-
I wonder how long it will be before Steve Yun marries Macek's widow...
-
If you're interested in the movies, rightstuf now carries them, and they ship to Europe. First movie is a little too much retreat retread, and skips far too much, but the second movie is definately packed with at least 12 kinds of awesome.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Nishizaki is a freakin' lunatic. But out of morbid curiosity, how high was the "hero" body count? -

Unless they have an anime fan playing in the system there. I doubt with the current con season announcements, Netflix would get a heads up on everyone else. -
In honor of the second Gurren Lagann movie coming out in the U.S. this week, here's Gainax's current splash image

2.0/2.22 has been officially announced by Funi, with a release set sometime next year, and they're going to try & do a theatrical release first. Still totally glad I got the HK BR first though, I'll definately buy the domestic, but I'd hate to have to wait until next year to see it.
