Must be, because I'll be damned if I've ever heard it before. Hell, it took me 6 years to finally decipher the finer points of it. As for the medical droid & everyone in the room, of course they wouldn't know what happened, they're not Sith. I do still love the look on Jar Jar's face during the funeral when he realizes exactly what he's done. That officially the best thing ever!

Context. What the writer says is true, but only for the book. What Harrison Ford says is true, for the original cut of the film, he wasn't invovled with much else. What Ridley Scott says is true for the DC & Final Cut. Don't see how you can possibly argue that point. -
Hmm..back on topic, even though it's my fault we went off, just finished Jedi, and I've come to the realization that the more you watch the newer cuts, the less the changes really stand out. Maybe it has something to do with watching Clone Wars too, but the little differences just don't seem to mean much anymore, at least to me. Something else that stood out to me while watching Sith, the whole bit about Padme's death. That bit has continued to not quite "click" right, and up until recent I'd assumed that Palpatine had somehow Force-killed her. But how? Then I started thinking about it again. The whole scene where Palp's discusses Darth Plagueis to entice Anakin has always stood out to me the most from the film. Not only could he manipulate midiclorian's to create life (Anakin), but he could also use them to prolong his own life, and prevent his loved ones from dying. He taught his apprentice (Palpatine) everything he knew before dying (being assasinated by his apprentice) except for the keeping loved ones alive. Now the carrot was always the thing about preventing people from dying, and at this point, I don't think that ability ever existed. But we do know from Yoda that the Force does connect people, and allows things such as both Anakin & Luke to have visions about people they care about. So, here comes that new limb I'm going out on. What's going on when Padme is dying? Anakin is also dying, in fact, the two things seem to happen concurrently. Problem is, there's no reason Padme should be dying, and that much is spelled out, while there's just as little reason for why Anakin should be able to hold on. I'm sure you see where I'm going with this. Palpatine tell's Anakin that "he" killed Padme. Was this a lie to piss him off? Or was it a partial truth. How exactly did Plagueis manipulate the force to keep himself alive? How did Palpatine do it? How did Anakin manage to live thrrough being sliced & roasted? Palpatine used the force to keep his appretice alive by sponging off of Padme's life. Finally, a theory about that mess that makes total sense, and has plenty of allusion within the story itself to be plausable.

ST movie extended/director's cuts not making it to bluray...discuss. -
For those wondering, I completely took out the part about asking what people thought of the ST movie changes not making it to bluray, intending to move it over to the theatrical cut topic, but whatever Yup. ST I became longer, some of the effects shots were changed (like the grossly mishapen Enterprise saucer landing on V'ger & new matte paintings of Vulcan), and more exterior shots were added. Current story is that the newer cuts were only rendered in SD, so there's nothing to upscale. ST II had some subtle additions like making the young engineer cadet Scotty's nephew, and ST VI had various odds & ends added, like a reveal of who the sniper was at the end (hint: It was Odo). None of these extended cuts made it to bluray, enough though ST:I was the only one with a valid reason not to.

What's the story behind that?

I agree that a theatrical version should be included regardless, but far more often than not, I tend to stick with extended/director's cuts of movies. As for Brazil, I hear Criterion has it in the pipeline for next year. -
These posters embody what SW used to be. But that's not SW is anymore. It definately feels different, and some are having a hard time embracing that change.

Regarding the iight to edit, I caught the Biography on Lucas the other week, and he pretty neatly wraps a bow on the whole issue. He wanted to make a movie that he wanted to watch, that would also inspire others to make similar movies that he'd also want to watch. Mark Hammil's take? He caught on early that Luke Skywalker was actually George Lucas, and the whole scenario was Lucas's fantasy world to play in. Boiled down to that, it's not suprising that he keeps tweaking things to his whim, its his adventure story that he's sharring, not anyone elses.

From my perspective, it's the fancutters who are evil. You need to learn to let go of your anger. lol.

Whiel I find the concept interesting, how do fancut's become something "more" valid when they go against the intentions of the series creator? I'm not gonna deny that I was straddling the hater line myself for a whille (until Sith came out), but really, this is becoming more of an issue of "i like it this way better" than "this sucks." Do I think Lucas should put out un-edited HD cuts? Oh hell yeah. Will I begrudge him for not? Nope. What's out is still awesome, just a bit different. I can see the DNR issue being an issue for some, but after Menace, it's barely noticable. I've come to look at the whole situation as this. Lucas doesn't like people telling him how his movies should be, he likes making them how he wants them to be. And currently, he wants them to be one uniform 6 part story. There was a lot of effort made to tie the prequels in wiht the original movies, and for the most part, he succeeded where he really shouldn't have been able to in creating foreshadowing references. And really, every SW picture has had someone yelloing "NOOOO," so I can see why Jedi was altered a bit to wrap up that particular trend. It makes sense in the 6 part context. Aside from that, Lightsabers are fixed, detail is freakin' awesome all aroundj, and the sound mixes are worth the price of admission alone. Going by that screen shot comparision, the upscale also looks overcropped.

lol at the power of fanboy rage if that's true. Split my ass, that movie totally voided everything post Enterprise, and for good reason. ST had become so convoluted with the borg, q, time travel, time travel, the borg, q, and more time traveling borg, the only sensable thing to do was reboot. So what does Abrams do? Not only reboot, but erease everything in the previous canon in the process. BRILLIANT!!

Whatever dude, enjoy your DVD's which will look worse no matter what. Meanwhile, up through ep IV, and the BR set is still full of win.
-
Damn, I feel slow hitting one a day. Tomorrow I'm watching Sith, but may have to throw in A New Hope to catch up. I've gotta say though, there is no justification for the hate that went on with this set,it truly is the BR release of the year. As for the changes? I find it amousing that some (not necessarily here mind you, just in general), compain about Lucas never having a firm idea on where he wanted to go with the series, then in the same breath complainng that he keeps changing things. I think I also remember someone here complaining about the pacing of Sith within the last day or so, specifically that the movie blow's itts battle wad at the beginning. The thing about that you have to remember, is that the battle at the beginning was the conclusion to the Clone Wars, and the CG series really drives its impotance home.

I say keep all of the disc's. Seriously, the audio/vsual upgrades are totally worth it.

Did they fire all of Project Aces or what? The more I think about this demo, the more it seems worse than HAWX.

Serioiusly, the only thing I'm waiting for now on the Vita is to hear artdink has been prepping Macross & Gundam for it. Also, it better have a beefier browser with flash.

It's a generic paint scheme YF-29. It means they added in the custom paint scheme feature from the PSP games. -
The Supervision Army were captured Protoculture fleets under the control of the Protodevelin.

Watched Phantom Menace today. For the worst looking film in the set, it sitll blows the DVD away by leaps. The sound is also just as awesome as advertised.
