Anyone attend the Miyazaki panel? I heard 6500 packed themselves into the room just to hear him speak! Did they share any good news? I saw him this past weekend at UC Berkeley. Did anyone else attend? -
I am definitely with A1 on this one!

Only have this bit the third Black Lagoon project will be an OVA in 2010. And the first two anime series will be re-issued on Blu-ray Disc in full high-definition. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-...project-in-2010

Sequels that we DON'T want to see!!
Fortress_Maximus replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Gawds let these terrible films fade away or never see the light of day, again. Craptacular for tweens. Our brain cells are collectively dying when we watch trash like this. Twilight Gi Joe Transformers Donnie Darko Rambo Crank Saw Grudge Star Wars Transporter Butterfly Effect -
Exactly! Once the overseas sellers stop of their ridiculous starting prices and let the market dictate the prices there IS activity. Always good to see another cel added to another member of RS! Too many getting hidden never to see the light of day even online which is quite sad. Congrats Mokky!

Summer 2009 MW Bay Area Meet in SF Japantown
Fortress_Maximus replied to UN Spacy's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
The last weekend of August works best for me. I am booked for the first three. And a tentative 2pm meet up sounds good. -
Since you have shared your dollar it is only reasonable others have an opportunity to share their ten cents. There is nothing wrong with people preferring average to attractive people over fat and unhealthy people cosplaying. Even casual anime fangirls candidly comment that some girls should "cover it up". Sure it is a personal choice whether someone cosplays, but not all do it for recognition or public approval. Now I do agree there are some excellent cosplayers that are not the most attractive or in the best of health. However, even you must acknowledge there are a hell of a lot more cosplayers who are better off covering it up than not. As for the pictures showing people coplaying in this thread, IMO these depict normal to attractive people which is why I would wager their specific pictures were posted and appreciated by most. I concur an amazing costume is an amazing costume. But, wouldn't you agree cosplay involves a great deal MORE than just a good looking costume? Cosplaying is more than just superior costume designs, fabric, cutting, accessories, make up, anime/manga accuracy, and physical attractiveness of the performer. Merely focusing on any one aspect of cosplaying ignores the SUM of those parts in the cosplay presentation. If any kind of kudos or credit should be given, shouldn't it be when a successful "overall presentation" is achieved? If that is the case is it really any wonder why many fans appreciate/vote favorably for normal and attractive cosplayers?
-
UN Spacy thanks for sharing the great Sheryl pics! We definitely need more cosplayers of her overall quality. IMHO I do not agree whatsover that a rotund/muffintop girl cosplaying should be given credit merely because of the quality of her outfit. How many of you actually check if a girl's cosplay is truly show accurate? Lets be honest, how many of us just want to see an attractive girl in cosplay? I will be the first to admit I do otherwise I for one do not even waste my time glancing.

Not sure if related but I ALWAYS have problems staying logged in using firefox. Anyone else? And i second Jenius's experiences too.

And here are a few more Macross TV cels.
-
Those 1984 -1986 calendars are awesome!
-
Here is a cel most people should recognize from the opening sequence of SDF Macross TV series and one often used for box art.
-
I agree both the new and the old box art weren't anything to cheer about. Size-wise the newer ones are better than the old. Newer sizing helps make shipping and storage easier too! However, I still prefer the sizing and actual box art used with some of the original 1/55 line. I definitely prefer imaginative airbrushed illustrations over simple bleh photographed pics which is becoming increasingly popular. I love the older boxart styles b/c many used lushly illustrated (painted) cover art. This style showed more creativity by presenting the toy in dramatic situations. Great examples include the Strike, Ostrich, Elintseeker ... these three remain in my opinion, wonderful examples of how companies use to take the time to GRAB casual shoppers attention! Looking back, what actually captured my original interest in the Macross toys themselves WAS the boxart and not the toy! I recall the first Macross toy I saw was the 1/55 Ostrich in San Francisco behind the glass and the 1/55 Strike in Taipei. How about everyone else? Which box art style DRAWS your attention?

Well that's still good news! Thanks for sharing sidearmsalpha.
-
Anyways... anyone else have something constructive and helpful to contribute? Thanks!
-
Any news? ANYONE? Thanks.
-
The movie was mediocre. Barely just barely a real Wolverine origins story b/c it was riddled with loose plot holes the size of our deficit and unexplained character developments with huge leaps of creative liberties. Less background characters could've really helped the story and character development. Meh, rental at best.

Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru GQuuuuuuX
Fortress_Maximus replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I respectfully disagree. Amuro left b/c no one on the ship needed him not just Bright. Only Frau acknowledged his efforts and understood him well. Also, there was no one to provide counseling to Amuro, Kai, or Hayato when they experience their first kills or the horror that accompanies. Bright or someone else should've stepped up to help the civilians cope, but no one did. It is only natural civilians would become a little messed up. Amuro had every right to leave b/c he certainly was not a paid member of the Federation and he already experienced what veterans experienced, namely combat burnout and at such a young age! When he leaves White Base was not functioning well as a unified team, yet. Personally I still feel if Amuro really wanted to prove his point that he alone could maximize the Gundam's potential, he should left White Base without it. Despite taking the Gundam I still feel Amuro was not cocky whatsoever. It was a fact he alone could and DID pilot the Gundam the BEST. He also knew how to constantly improve himself as a pilot despite having no one to mentor or coach him. When Shayla pitifully attempted to pilot the Gundam she only succeeded in getting it beaten, torn apart (again no fracking correction), captured, and nearly destroyed. I highly doubt Kai, Hayato and even Ryu could have done as well as Amuro. Furthermore in the beginning Bright was a bad leader. The majority of the crew on White Base were civilians and minors. Rarely if ever did you see Bright "correcting" them as frequently and crassly as he did with Amuro. He used kids gloves with almost everyone else and clearly showed a bias with Mirei and Shayla. E.g. when Shayla repeatedly fracking jeopardized the entire crew time and again, he -never- corrected her. Merely solitary but no public disgrace with verbal lashings or physically correcting her. What a fracking prick! As we know by the last battle White Base functioned well as a team, but at the core it was always Amuro who served as the keystone. The fact is Amuro was constantly on the front lines saving White Base from day one! A few words of encouragement would have gone a hell of a lot farther to improve morale and keep solidarity on the entire ship. Ryu acknowledges this when Bright complains about the crew but Ryu rightly tears him a new one and Bright learns to STFU. Although Amuro eventually shouldered his burdens well, I believe he definitely could've grow up better and gained much more confidence as a man and a pilot, if Bright was more diplomatic and far less of an unappreciative, log up the ass, dysfunctional leader.- 3717 replies
