What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v3.0
Kelsain replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
On my brother's recommendation, I'm currently watching Here and There, Now and Then. Pretty dark drama set against a backdrop of war and despair. It reminds me a little of Nausicaa, but no bugs and less optimism. -
I've got a soft spot for zombie flicks, the good ones give me the willies for a few days. Admittedly, though, they're often pretty much the same movie with varying amounts of gore. Therefore, I'm really excited to see what will unfold with a zombie series. Just the time allowed to explore concepts will make this a very different experience.

Bandai planning to re-release more classic IMAI kits
Kelsain replied to AcroRay's topic in Model kits
Ooh, 1/72 regult! Now I just have to get cracking on some models. I've imposed a ban on new ones until I get a few done from my closet... -
That and the skull bridge, blender hallway, and super-pointy ginsu engine room.

I dunno. I always thought this was a bit of a copout. In the movies, the rebel fighters weren't really any stronger than the TIE fighters. Most X, Y, and A's (don't recall ever seeing a B-wing shot) popped with one shot too. Maybe two hits for dramatic effect. Sometimes the structure of the fighter survived after the first shot, but just long enough to veer off & crash.

OK, well let's at least say "By comparison." -
I concur! Almost posted that as well. I totally had myself an 18 year-old geek "ZOMG that's awesome" moment when the Thunderbolt debuted. (well, that was long before zomg...)

What I love about Serenity is that it really appears to have been designed from the inside out. We need a big cargo bay, crew quarters, a big engine, a bridge and a lounge - go! Oh, and make it uglier than the Millennium Falcon! I'll have to take a few minutes to gather a few of my favorites. One easy one is the Earth Force Starfury from Babylon 5. It ain't pretty, but it's one of the most practical space fighter designs in SF. Pilot lying prone to the main direction of acceleration, vectored thrust... Though the animation was primitive for the first few seasons, they really tried to make the combat very different from the aircraft-style dogfights that Star Wars really cemented in the genre.

Not at first, but then I decided to check. Nice epilogue. Poor Yoko... -
Neat. Never noticed before now that the VF-171 and VF-171EX had different canopies...

Just finished Gurren Lagann. Very nice. I sure hope the climax took place in Although part of me wonders what the final confrontation would have looked like factoring the speed of light. Dork... Altogether, very fun, and I can't get "Row, row, fight the power!" out of my head. -

Yeah, no doubt. Even Apocalypse Now wasn't worth a life lost, and that was a good movie... -

At least she doesn't seem interested in b/w dr who. Bright colorful cartoons are a different matter. Just got the iPhone app for netflix, which makes it easier. Nap times are for working though. -

Hopefully no more hiccups. There seem to be A LOT of complaints about this on the series' page @ Netflix. The sequence actually goes: ...6,7,9,9,10... The tricky part now is to keep myself from marathonning. I've also got M7 I'm watching on Fridays, the Dr Who pilot, freelance work and a baby to take care of too! Darn addictive anime. Somewhere in there I've gotta get back to work on my Northampton. -

I'm guessing episode 8? Just watched it this morning. <shyamalan> What a twist! </shyamalan> Although get this: This episode is skipped in Netflix's Instant Watch! Totally got spoiled within seconds of the opening credits of Episode "8" er 9... Fargin Iceholes. I feel like I was watching Macross and just skipped -

Say no more! I'm only like 6 episodes in! -
That's a great sketch! Can't wait to see her completed! Is she going to be a VF-17 girl, or a VF-171? The slender build & smallish shoulders seem to fit the latter.

Now that I can watch Netflix Instantly on my TV, I've started Gurren Lagan. I'm beginning to see what everybody's been talking about. -
If you want good quality and to support a fellow MWer, drop JasonC a line to see if he can burn a set for you. He used the remastered set and added in good (non-engrish) subtitles. I opted for his DL set & it's beautiful. Has some lag issues on a couple of episodes, but he explained that up front. On to the VF-19 - I concur, some sort of cover for that ball-joint would be really nice. If they don't do it, I'm sure someone could figure out an easy mod.

What, did Michael Bay just watch the Road Warrior? Definitely Decepticon - too pointy and mean to be an Autobot. Have we seen any military-cover Autobots in these films? Either way, it seems that they don't quite get the point of the "Robots in Disguise" thing. -
Just finished watching the season today. Overall, I liked it. I actually enjoyed the smaller scale, more personal vibe of each episode, I really like how they're incorporating other time travelers into the plot. Capt Jack was fun for that reason, but Alex Kinsgton really brings some gravitas w/ Dr Song. She's the best and most enticing character I've seen on the series for a long time. Doesn't hurt that I've enjoyed seeing her since her stint on ER. I'm looking forward to the time when her and the Doctor's timelines overlap for a while longer. She's also a better romantic foil for the Doctor, rather than the slew of companions that had the hots for him during RTD's reign. Bringing Rory along in the TARDIS proved to bring a different dynamic than we'd been used to since the relaunch. The Doctor returned to the role of detached, yet caring moderator - more of a parent than an unrequited love. All in all, good show. I'm eager to see the owner of the angry, gravelly voice next season - probably the owner of the .

Remember, we all said the same thing about the vf-11. They might pull out farther on the actual piece. At this point, I'm holding off on concerns about those and the chest until they move past the resin prototype.
