  1. Okay, I'll add some conjecture here. Remember at the end of Mospeada (not New Gen) when the Invid Queen is discussing how humans have followed the path of "Sadow" or something to that effect? It's been a LONG time since I've seen it so bear with me here. I imagine this could work well for a new Robotech also being Mospeada 2. Robotech is going to have a whole new alien threat (as the article mentions) based on shadow. It'll probably tie together with the opening sequence of The Masters. In that scene they're looking at the mounds that represent the ruins from Space War 1 and there's a brief flash of three sillouettes. "What was that?" "A form of inorganic sentry." Basically it seems to be a set-up for a more mystical alien race that also is tied extremely closely to protoculture and that the Invid are well aware of (tying to the Regis' discussion of "children fo the Shadow"). So in both Mospeada and in Robotech there have been allusions to a shadow race. So in the Mospeada 2 dub a division of Mars Base will sweep the galaxy looking to kill off remaining Invid and come in contact with the Shadow Race. In the RT sequel the REF will be searching for the SDF-4 and come in contact with both Invid and the Shadow race.

    Custom VF-17S

Okay, this is my last post of this thing while blue. The next part of the project? I'm gonna buy some sort of material and apply it to the areas I've hacked away to round the edges better. I am then going to completely disassemble the thing and give my first attempt at Plasticote (probably spelled it wrong). When all is said and done this will hopefully be a very poseable Miriya VF-17. I'm also considering adding a pivot point in the torso region so the upper body can move indendent of the legs... ALTHOUGH, unfortunately I think the back is so broad it might not really add any poseabilty. Also, I'm fiddling with the idea of hacksawing off the fists and replacing with poseable hands... Wish me luck everybody! I'll probably just utterly ruin this thing...

Here's a better pic to get an example of the leg mobility:

Graham, remember the comment about too much being removed from the knees? All the extra trimming is necessary to make the legs swing that violently forward in Gerwalk mode.

Does that mean my gerwalk mode is wrong also??
  7. Agent One speaks only the truth. You know he's right, he's gotta be right, 'cause he's of the same opinion of me... and you know I'm always right.
  8. Well, i guess another way to tell would be to see how natural 1/48 Yammie pilots look next to the Alphas.
  9. Haterist, did you find some place selling 'em cheap? I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly where the transforming issue is. From the sounds of it you might just be being a bit too gentle. Wiggle jiggle on the wings while you tug pretty firmly. The legs do need some good yanks but I'm not sure what you mean by "swinging them out."
  10. for that low of a serial number you're lucky that's the only problem it has. You also have the odd blue color vents on that bad boy... if these ever become insane collector's items I like to think that'd help the value. I couldn't agree more about the need for ratcheting arms. I'm afraid to transform these things more than a couple times (in fact, most of the ones I own have been transformed twice at the most) because I know it'd only be a matter of time before all the arms could do is dangle.
  11. Another case of the crooked head eh? All the Rooks have really crooked heads... that irks me.
  12. Yep, don't get me wrong, they are both the same scale. It's just that they're both like 1/51 scale if you want to be overly proper. That's assuming the math done on RT.com was proper. Obviously that makes it close enough where if you said it was either 1/55 or 1/48 you're close enough to being right where no one will argue with you on something this small. Then again... these MPCs have pretty tricky transformations and maybe the person who did the math just didn't extend the toy out far enough and it really ought to be 1/48 scale. Let the debate live on....
  13. I believe the correct answer is: Neither one is correct. Both kits are somewhere between 1/48 and 1/55. Somebody on RT.com did the math for us and we figured that 1/55 would be a bit smaller than the MPC and 1/48 would be a bit larger than the Imai. Personally, I love the MPC sculpt. I own the models to make all three of the Legioss but damn, after seeing this I'd never be happy with my own attempt Don't hold the MPC's fighter mode against it based on the comparison pic, the front "fins" are still pushed down instead of being in their proper position making it look kinda sloppy. Looks like the back flap that fits the shoulder mounted sensor (whatever that thing is) fits a lot better on MPCs and the front fins are anime correct on the MPCs (as far as their folding behind the mech in battloid). For a model, those Legioss are super impressive though. I never understood where they got that center missle stand and top mounted gun though... those don't appear in the series do they??? Does this Jung character still build and paint models for people? Maybe he can do my Legioss too!
  14. A Perfect Cicle. Tool, NIN, White Zombie, Static X, Filter, Slipknot, Jawbreaker, At the Drive-in, Operation Ivy, old Bad Religion, and Rage Against the Machine. If I'm feeling more social it's more like Incubus, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Grand Funk Railroad, BTO, Beasties, God Lives Underwater... Eclectic... kinda. Funny that... a bunch of people who love 80s bands on a Macross website

    Custom VF-17S

Well... thank you for that. I still see some potential here and would like to clean it up. I'm trying to find some sort of compound I can apply to plastic and then mold to clean up all the hacked off edges. Something like plaster for plastic. I think I'll try to do that to all the areas I've hacked and then give it the Fusion/Plasti treatment as shown in another thread to try to make the Millia valk suggested earlier.

    Custom VF-17S

Sorry, i think I caused the confusion by discussing the modification of the "hip" area. Yes, the stock toy can move it's leg forward with no bending any where along the leg (except the knee which can bend the wrong direction). I've added two places for bending along the leg. The first is obviously the knee. The second is below the hip where the thigh meets the hip. Just about every VF-1 has this upper thigh joint but the stock VF-17 lacked it. It doesn't really need this secondary leg joint but I find it makes Gerwalk look a whole heck of a lot better.

me likey Any clue which episode that was (number or title)?

    Custom VF-17S

oooh, that custom looks perty! I fidgeted with the knee hacking quite a bit and may have over-done it. At the time though it seemed to need to be hacked down that far. Maybe if there is some sort of resin I can apply I can smooth out the square cuts a bit to make it not look so obvious... I'm definitely hungry for ways to make this thing look better. Hey, if I do have to repaint the whole darn thing, were there any other alternate color schemes to the VF-17? The Miriya paintjob was suggested but did Miriya ever fly one? No, I'm not painting it green and giving it a sound booster of any kind.
  19. 2 questions: 1) If you had a plastic part with resin attached would the product look the same color on both the plastic and the resin? (if it adheres to resin at all) 2) I'm thinking about trying this on that VF-17 I just modded, do you think it's possible to use it on a plastic that starts that dark??

    Custom VF-17S

Doing this was actually a piece of cake. This has to be the easiest valk to disassemble. Everything just unscrews right apart. After it was all apart it was time to do some serious hacking. Cut away the excess plastic around the knees (it's a lot more plastic than you probably suspect) and you get a functioning knee. Gerwalk is my favorite though, that's why I continued up and hacked the large V out where it connects to the hip. This lets the joint go much further forward and actually obtain that classic Gerwalk stance. Unfortunately, there's no room for the thigh to bend in that direction so some extensive hip modification must be done. That part was exhausting. You have to hack a way a curved bottom but retain (or replace) enough plastic to hold the joints in place. That part is NOT fun. A more capable customizer would have replaced the stock joints with naturally more poseable ones (metal ball joints or something), I retained all the original parts and just modified their positioning and housing.

    Custom VF-17S

Here's a better pic that shows exactly the damage I'm trying to make look better. If I could just put a nice smooth edge around everything I modified I think this could be a really good-looking (and much more poseable) custom.

    Custom VF-17S

Hey everybody, I was fortunate enough to get the original Mac7 toys at a great price. Once they arrived I looked at my reproduction VF-17S and decided to let my hatred of Mac7 bubble out onto it. It always seemed to me to be a toy on the verge of something pretty cool, so I was ready to beat some coolness into it (too bad no one ever did that to Basara...) Anyway, those of you who have the toy will probably figure out what has happened to it. I'm really thrilled with the results but since I was never thinking about the cosmetic finish I have seriously marred it and would love to hear some suggestions on how to get a nice finish on the plastic. All suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Maybe some resin product I could paint?
  25. Here's a YF-19 for half the price of this shop... still seems steep to me.. YF-19 on Ebay
