  1. Duly noted. It was indeed satire which by its nature can be quite insulting. I apologize. My intent was for more to find humor in the statement than insult but since it was your words being manipulated I could see where you would not find that funny at all. For all others, if I write something that sounds vicious I was probably grinning when I did it. Let me know if I piss you off... my jokes are probably quite often only funny to myself. I hate certain toys, I hate certain shows, but I can't think of any reason why I'd hate someone else on a forum or strive to make them look like an ass... unless it seems fun at the time Christ, maybe I am a troll Edit - Zinjo was writing at the same time as me and I'd just like to point something out: I like that quote because of the way it carries the flame metaphor through to "combustible natures." Nice writing (and that's really just a compliment, nothing meant by it).
  2. I don't understand this criticism, it may be valid but whose posts am I recycling? Are you saying I'm just restating and rephrasing other people's posts? I'm genuinely curious as to how you meant this? I've posted several times in this forum, I don't think I've ever stated once "I like Macross II." What I have said is Macross II is slightly less craptastic than Macross7 (psst, look at the title of this thread, I'd say that's pretty much in line with what ought to be being discussed here). Ya know, I'm okay with being called a troll. I don't exactly find it fair though that you've posted more frequently in this thread than I have yet since my opinion opposes your own I'm deemed a troll. I have not gotten off topic or made any personal attacks (in my estimation). The nature of discussions such as these is that there are differing opinions and both sides should be free to make their opinions known. If you feel I'm restating the same argument over and over again then I would respectfully disagree. If you feel you are free to bring something new and good to the table about Mac7 then why shouldn't I also be free to point out one more area where Mac7 sucks? If you want an all positivity anima spiritia orgy thread go make one, this ain't it.
  3. Okay, so it sounds like we need to add a new Mac7 defense: "You can't possibly appreciate Mac7's depth because your feeble western mind can't possibly comprehend the greatness which is eastern culture." One man's crap is another man's treasure. The characters, their interactions, their development are all very important but they should accentuate the rest of the storyline, not be a crutch for it. In fact, I think this is another good MacII vs Mac7 pointer. In MacII the characters are flat, they never develop, what happens with them seems forced or awkward at times, and basically they don't really help the story. In MacII it's much better to focus on the action, politics, and bigger picture (not that I'm saying there's a whole lot there either). In Mac7 it's essentially the opposite. It's better if you focus more on the over-done and overblown characters than the larger events that are transpiring. Put the whole "vampire" issue behind you and just look at Mylene, she's conflicted again!
  4. Game manufacturers should get wise to this phenomenon and make money off it. I'm not exactly sure how, but they can definitely make money here and help reduce the camping and random acts that go with it.

Kyp, check out the threads on the VF-0A and read it for the improvements over the 0S. It's pretty universal speculation that the 0S will be reissued at some point with exactly the improvements made to the 0A. The big ones are tighter arms and something to do with the feet (I think the feet on the 0S were wobbly where they've been improved to be like 1/48 VF-1 feet on the 0A but someone who owns one could describe it better).
  6. Anybody notice that the articles at MSNBC (not bias or anything toward MS products....) are stating that Wii is a more enjoyable system than the PS3? They also have a dedicated "Don't forget the 360" article. To paraphrase "Our PS3 would often go unplayed despite being hooked up to a massive HDTV while our invitees all gathered around the Wii for the immersive play."
  7. Huh? That's not funny though. Besides, that statement implies there's something worth comprehending in Mac7.
  8. Wow, looks like we got some Mac7 fans handing out the titles huh?

Hi Agent - yeah those are Toynami's MPCS. Check out this link, I did a write-up on them that should answer all your questions and provide you with several less glamorous photos. Toynami MPCs The shorter answers: Diecast? Too much Pilots: Yep Scale: 1/55 (although they're the same size as the 1/48 model Aoshima and Imai sell)
  10. Okay, does that mean Spongebob is also better than MacrossII though? I think I'd take MacII of Spongebob but Spongebob over Mac7.
  11. Eventually it causes your VF-0A to make a baby jet.

    Did I screw up?

Yeah, I was really hoping to buy a 0S 2nd Edition, 0A, and a YF-19 all at the same time. Looks like Yamato has decided to hold off on the 0S Second Edition though Now I find myself with nothing even on order anywhere... looks like I won't be one of the first to get the YF-19.
  13. Wasn't that more of a VF-11 problem? Did the YF-19 in 1/72 also have a hip issue? I don't think these hips look based on the VF-1, it looks like they have a pivot dead center. Then again, I'm doped up on medicine so who knows how odd and wrong my observations may be.

As a huge fan of the Legioss/Alpha design, I sympathize with Kyp and no amount of VF-1 will ever satisfy a craving for a different toy entirely. Besides, the market is so saturated with VF-1s right now, having an Alpha would be a nice change of pace. Now, it is too bad the MPC is the best Alpha available but that ought to demonstrate to everyone that there's a void there waiting for some new manufacturer to step up and do the design justice. Some day... some day...
  15. Looks like a cell shaded game Gaijin... they always look.. um... different. Even beyond that though, it does look rough.

This liink will answer your questions. Arkham, that's my website and I've analyzed the hell out of the 1/48s so read that review and then surf around and you should be a certified expert in no time. When you're done with the 1/48s you can check out all the 1/60s too Also, whoevere said the MPCs are a lot more than 1/60s is not exactly right. Ben Dixon's MPC goes for less generally and the Super 1/60 releases go for just as much as the most sought after MPCs.

This is tone neutral, it occurs to me that everything I write can be taken quite abrasively if you apply the wrong tone to it. Anyway, the two stances I took today, Pro 1/48 and Anti Mac7 seem like pretty solid stances to have. It's not like I'm new to either one of them. I used to laugh with A1s posts and I've blasted the 1/60 since the first time I held one. Hey, if you want to tell me Mac7 makes any sort of sense than you ought to expect me to respond. If you want to tell me the 1/60 has the 1/48 trumped in any way you better be ready to defend the position. My posts are often extremely sarcastic and dismissive, that's just the way I write, it's my attempt at continuing discussion but I understand that it reads in an argumentative fashion. I don't think what happened in this thread was at all an argument. Dangard said something, I said "ya think?", he said "Look here", and I said "eh, I see things differently but whatever." As far as the MPCs go, if he's going to have a 1/48, a 1/60, and an MPC then it sounds like he'll be in plenty good shape to decide what he wants. He also is clearly a hardcore Robotech fan (which has me stumped as to why he's buying up Hikaru 1As) so if he wants to buy the MPC then so be it. I own lots of all the toys just 'cause I like variety in my display cases. Again, different strokes.
  18. Mocking and chiding a cartoon hardly signifies being worked up. I wouldn't be saying things like "heck" and "fluffy love rays" if I was physically angry. Yeah, I berated it, but it reads as humorous to me. If it strikes you as a frothy attack then perhaps thou doth defend too much. Besides, I watched the whole thing and I when I sent BigWest a letter requesting they refund me for the portion of my life they wasted they simply ignored me. The nerve! Yeah, there goes Project M making brilliant sense again. "Should we tell our real soldiers about the clown mech that will dance around during the battles?" "Nah, they won't find that distracting, it shouldn't be a problem." I don't think we should bump Gamlin too much for his distraction. His duty is partly to protect civilians and here one is out in space endangering himself and potentially others with the distraction he's creating.

okay, point taken, this is not a thread to debate the 1/48 vs the 1/60. Just the same, note the complaint about "skinny arms" and then look at the rear lineart of the plane and tell me you think those arms are fat. Still no fat hips in any lineart either. And does the 1/60 really have better hands?? I'll give you the "bulbous canopy" argument and I would grant that the arms don't tuck up tight enough in the 1/48 but that's as far as I would go. I also hardly think perfect transformation is a "gimmick" but rather the very spirit of Macross toys. Anyway, the reason I even bother arguing it (despite my stating that we should let the toys speak for themselves... heck, I might even do a little project on that) is just to show the newb that we'll all have our preferences for whatever reason.
  20. So you're saying you're okay with Basara and project M and you find it more reasonable than a news organization with a valk? Yes, QM-69 is literally laughable to me. Literally because I seriously did laugh... then cringed as it was discussed. Everything about it is silly from the presentation in the episode to the sloppiness in determing what it actually is. Gamlin is good... but he's no QM-69er? C'mon, seriously, they just tried to quantify Basara's piloting ability as if the children watching it weren't able to determine already that Basara was a good pilot. Ugh, gag. I wonder if Hibiki could QM-69? Does Max QM-69 before he eats breakfast in the morning? Yeah, difficult maneuvers I'm fine with so long as they're presented as such and not mystified. I guess it's like Tony Hawk's 720. The only problem is, this is war, not an exhibition. Wait, is it war? Heck, in Mac7 if you got beat you just ended up in a coma that you would probably recover from. No one dies because we have fluffy love rays of Basara energy to tuck us in at night... shudder. This isn't an issue about science so much as it is an issue of us having to believe what we're watching. When things get outlandish we can't take it seriously. Mac7 is constantly outlandish and can nearly never be taken seriously. Even the relationships are silly at best. Oh that Basara! There he goes again! Aw Mylene, she's so conflicted. Go Gubaba go! Repeat ad nauseum (sp?) MacII deserves similar levels of beratement though. I think most of that has been stated by others in this thread already.
  21. The fact that we have to try soooooo hard to get Mac7 not to seem like ridiculous magic is the first step to realizing it's not worth the effort. Yes, sound is energy. Yes, emotions are powerful. No, the crap we see in Mac7 is not plausible. The bad guys are outlandish (seriously, who came up with THOSE character designs?), the implementation of "Sound Energy" is a joke, Basara avoiding harm is a joke, Gamlin surviving death is a joke, etc etc. It's a show that is benign fun for children but I personally crave a show that at least occasionally indulges an adult audience and I felt the original Macross did that. MacII at least has a more significant sense of fear about it (although it too is done poorly).

    Did I screw up?

I disagree, the 1/48 seems closer to the lineart to me. The 1/60 is far too pointy and I don't remember enormous hip joints in the original lineart.

    Did I screw up?

Couple of pointers: 1) Veritech is a Robotech term. In the macross universe we are specifically discuss "Valkyries" 2) You should visit the website in the link in my signature although I haven't put up my uber comparison yet... still working on the pics and should soon. 3) the 1/60 VF-1A Hikaru Ichijo (aka Rick Hunter in Robotech) is a first edition 1/60 meaning it has none of the improvements of the later versions. That said, the improvements weren't all that huge so you shouldn't feel like you're missing much. You'll have a gun that isn't as cool and little removeable plastic pieces on the arms whereas the later versions didn't need them.
  24. Alright, so they decide it's time to make the world's ugliest valk and send it out to the enemy to emulate Minmay's singing. Um, I guess I follow so far. They decide, to do this, where does Basara get involved? Project M seems to always be something mentioned in passing, as in the whole "it's not really important, Basara has a valk, deal with it" and it's almost put exactly that way to Gamlin. I just don't see where Project M with Basara at the helm being any more or less believable then a news channel owning a Valk. That said, Sketchley did clarify for me that it was the feats that valk pulled off that he had a problem with and I agree with that. I also find Basara's prancing through battles to be even more outlandish than the Scramble News Network valk doing what it did. Aw but wait, I'm forgeting that Basara can reach Q9 or whatever BS they invented. Wow, both series are so bad.
  25. Wait, so Sketchley you're saying Hibiki having a valk = bad but Basara having a valk is in with the theme of the original Macross and so it's okay? I find that to be an interesting take on things. I also loved the explanation of why Basara had a valk and the thought process behind it... oh no... wait... that's never really cleared up is it? At least we know Hibiki has a valk so he could report on a war. Basically I think it comes back to which steaming pile of poo you like more and I'd still contend you don't have to smell MacII for as long as Mac7 so that's the edge it has. MacII's theme is that man's greatest weapon is not his battleships (which the Marduk can best) but culture & love. In fact, the entire thing seems listed straight from DYRL. Mac7's theme? When things look bad, sing and dance and the whole universe will love you! See, the themes are actually pretty similar.
