Remastered Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada DVDs
jenius replied to Lynx7725's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I got both Southern Cross and Mospeada off eBay (the exact versions that are $79.99 at RT.com) for $24.99 each (this was years ago and YES, they are the exact set, not a knock-off). At that price I thought they were WONDERFUL purchases and enjoy them thoroughly. Mospeada and SC are not nearly as remastered/restored as the Macross set (which is a STEAL at $39.99, remember that it used to sell for over $200!) but the look is plenty clean enough and the subtitles are easily good enough to make them enjoyable. There are definitely some issues (Tread translated as Tlead... which I don't even think is a word that can be pronounced in English) but most of them will only make you smirk and you'll totally understand everything. -
The problem I have with Kakizaki is they screwed up his head laser. You'd have your skull squadron with white head lasers and then goofy Kakizaki off in the corner with his black one. Very odd... VF-1J Hik for the win.

Fickle buyers eh? You guys might want to just throw them in a closet rather than selling them off. In between this long gap of product releases stores will not be getting more 1/100s in stock. Then, if Toynami returns and puts out the fast packs you might feel like buying the 1/100s again and not be able to find them anywhere anymore. It's like if Toynami ever does sell a Beta, where are you going to get Scott's Alpha to go with it? (I think Scott's alpha's selling out actually might hinder the likelihood of a Beta BTW).

New Robotech Shadow Chronicles Vid
jenius replied to terry the lone wolf's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'd take M0 over Shadow Chronicles but I don't think that's saying much. M0 has the worse story of the two I'd say. Shadow Chronicles never painted itself into such a corner that the heroes had to fly away on levitating rocks. I find M0 absolutely beautiful in contrast to SC though and I think it was fun because of that more than anything. Had the art work of SC been as beautiful as M0 there's no doubt I'd pick SC over it. As it is, I think both are fun but wouldn't really rave about either. The whole plot argument above is weak. Empire Strikes Back must really be hated by some people around here but I love it. While I agree that the pilot stuff is an odd business decision, it's the decision that was made. It's unfortunate that they weren't able to ensure a sequel before releasing this DVD so they were unable to advertise it as the first DVD in a series. Instead it is advertised as some sort of complete product... and that, it obviously, is not. I'm totally voting communist in the next election, this free market BS has got to stop. Nah, just kidding, I agree to some extent. I think DND summed it up perfectly in another thread about Toynami, "I'm through with Toynami, they keep jerking me off and never make me cum." Now that's a great analogy. -
I was wrong... sorry!

LOL Lynx, you think that's thorough enough? I find that with the Alphas, if you think something is wrong you should immediately go ask someone who has more experience with them. Most people who break something on it are trying to force it because they don't know why it's stuck at a certain point and they think "Eh, I'll just wiggle it and apply steady pressure" but that can be a recipe for disaster. The hands though, as Lynx pointed out, are very scary bits, handle them as infrequently as possible. They're made of soft rubber and a metal pin is centered in the middle of what is essentially a millimeter thick rubber shell. It's real easy for that pin to be pushed through the rubber causing the hand to be forever ruined.

The computer and electronics super geek superthread...
jenius replied to EXO's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I need to buy a new computer ASAP. Would the following be decent (and if not, what would you recommend): Processor - Intel Core E6400 Memory - 2GB SD 667MHZ Hard Drive - 320GB Graphics - 256 NVIDIA GeForce 7500LE This is one of the HP rigs available on their website now, pricing for a Dell is equivalent but I've had success with HP (although I realize some may not have). The rig also comes with their TV tuner with PVR and with a 19" flat panel runs just shy of $1400 (with all the other misc options I'm choosing). The thing that has me worried is the video card (although that's the best one they offer). I'm guessing that, in reality, the card must be mediocre at best. Is that card junk or will it run most games on mid settings just fine? Any commentary is appreciated. Computers aren't my real cup of tea but I do like to play games occasionally and do some photo editing and maybe video editing in the future. -
Man, I haven't voted yet, I'm really torn. If it weren't for the whole Atlantis-like city in DYRL I'd go with DYRL. I liked the condensed version of the love plot with less hemming and hawing. I actually sympathized with Minmay a bit in DYRL whereas in the original series I didn't feel bad for her at all until the reconstruction era. I totally see where the Atlantis-like city was beneficial in DYRL to keep the plot cooking along and tie everything together but I just didn't buy it. So... for now, I'm still undecided... but I'm probably leaning toward the TV version of the story.

That's a lotta Stealths! Very nice collection. I might worry about the toys next to the window though... that's a good way to get some yellowing (althought it looks like a pretty shaded outcrop so probably not much of a concern). -
New Robotech Shadow Chronicles Vid
jenius replied to terry the lone wolf's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's not anti-Robotech bashing, I'm actually surprised how civil this thread has been. The members of this site bash Macross7 and Macross0 plenty as well. We also bash excellent toys consistently and complain about everything from cars to movies we've only seen two pictures of pre-production art-work from. It's the nature of the Internet... -
New Robotech Shadow Chronicles Vid
jenius replied to terry the lone wolf's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I was thinkin' the same thing... my original quote refers to the OSMs, not Robotech. The OSMs are riddled with horrible moments of ridiculously bad animation. I can't really think right now of how Robotech could have made the animation of the originals worse although yeah, in episodes like Dana's Story I could definitely see where people would question the edit choices. -

Oh man, it must have been a LONG time since you've watched the originals. I sat down with them not too long ago and was actually quite surprised at just how bad the animation is at times. Shadow Chronicles doesn't have good animation but it's consistent and the characters/mechs never get randomly deformed, change colors, or skip 10-50 frames for abrupt uber choppiness. -
Next Macross, which valk should be the main one ?
jenius replied to Aegis!'s topic in Movies and TV Series
Is a brand new valk an option? I love all the ones we have but I'm certainly not against something new. I have some preferences for how I'd like it to behave (a GERWALK mode that is more functional *looking* than the YF-19, YF-21 or VF-17) but otherwise I think SK should let the creative juices run again! -

I received an email from someone trying to sign up here as a new member but they said they've tried a few times and have never received a confirmation email so they still aren't able to participate. I would naturally assume that this would be the result of the email being flagged as spam or something along those lines. Any suggestions on how this could be resolved? I believe I know the person's proposed handle and email address if that would help.

They're not. The Isamu is apparently a tiny bit too big but there is a clear difference in the size of the 1/48 pilot and the 1/60 pilot. There was another thread on here that did much clearer comparisons of just the pilot figures.

Did Captain America quit his Legioss because it was just too time consuming of a project or because he was served legal notice? If it was the second option then that would bode poorly here also.

Toynami Announces Masterpiece Cyclones at Toyfair
jenius replied to chowyunskinny's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Anyone on this board I would venture falls outside of the scope of what I was suggesting the "average" Robotech fan was (the fact those people are on RT.com almost puts them outside of the "average" also). By taking the time to research the originals and check out the histories of the various toys and what's available out there it's clear you're more of a collector than Joe or Bob on the street who has heard of Robotech and might see the toy at Gamestop. Edit - totally not trying to derail this thread into a heated discussion of Toynami's businesses practices. Obviously we are not your average consumers and companies have market research they conduct to determine their own practices. What may seem best to us may not be a completely universal truth... even if WE all agree about it. -
Toynami Announces Masterpiece Cyclones at Toyfair
jenius replied to chowyunskinny's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Very interesting. So Toynami has this great 1/6 scale figure body but they're so inept they need to go to a separate company to get a head and suit for it made? All things considered though, maybe it's best they leave the work that will actually be visible to the consumer to an outside company. As to the price point, the RT boards have a fair number of users insisting that they simply can't afford the current MPC pricing (or the pricing of the 1/6 figure). There seems to be a difference between the Macross collector and the Robotech collector in this regard. Fans of Macross and the original series seem to be much more vested in those series and willing to pay a much higher premium for higher quality merchandise. It seems the average Robotech fan is more plentiful, more casual, and more price averse. -
Toynami Announces Masterpiece Cyclones at Toyfair
jenius replied to chowyunskinny's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I think we need to consider who owns what and what the relationships are here. It was my understanding that Toynami only distributes the Popbox figures... not actually owns them. It's like the old Bandai SDF-1 that was distributed by Matchbox. Did Matchbox make it? No. Did Matchbox own it? No. Did Matchbox have the rights to distribute a toy that someone else made all over the world? Yes. I *think* it's the same case with the Popbox figures (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). *IF* I'm right, that would mean Toynami would have one more person they'd have to pay (and let's be honest, Popbox does great work but it's not like they've been ultra speedy on the production of products so that's one more delay to incur) and Toynami would have had to create a toy around a sub-company's product that is quite large. Now, with Toynami's established group of fans complaining in most places that their products aren't worth $79.99 we're now asking them to create toys where the action figure alone retails for $79.99. If that action figure is that expensive how much more would we expect to pay if it was bundled with a transformable bike?? -

Deimos, what's up with the blank 1/48 VF-1S? Is it just a real world custom? On my monitor it looks a bit off... like you stripped an LV1, added a white VF-1S head to it, and then somehow bleached the whole thing. My brightness setting is probably all f'ed up making it look odd but do tell about that custom. -
If memory serves, Tatsunoko also went to bat for HG regarding the license debacle. Don't ask me to go find quotes, it's been far too long, but it was my understanding that HG had this mercurial agreement that no one could validate but HG claimed existed and Tatsunoko agreed about. Big West was then left being the big fish in a small pond with all the strength in the world just short of actually being able to kill the HG/Tatsunoko alliance. Big West then went to its licensees and forbid them from doing business with HG (understandably) and HG then went and forbade those companies from trying to get their properties into the US (and other countries... but primarily the US) without HG approval. Mac+ made it to the US when HG was its weakest and because it wasn't viewed as any sort of competition for Robotech products... but when the toys came out HG suddenly changed its mind. Then when HG tried to broker a deal with the Macross toy manufacturers BW once against stepped up and forbid it. I think that's a case of two items obviously unrelated to either the current Robotech series or even the Robotech model franchise in such and obvious and clear way that HG doesn't see it being worth the financial efforts to force them to change their names/sites. Most consumers aren't going to relate the Robotech Pool Cleaner to the Robotech transformable aero-space fighter of cartoons.

Judging by the vast size of the pictures you did post, I would venture that you can't post the others because the file size is too large. The site doesn't seem to indicate a max but I've found the bigger the file the harder they are to attach. Try usin' a software to shrink the size down a bit.
