All i know is I'd love to have that on the wall in my office... at the least it's a great conversation piece.

Hey Hikuro, you also mentioned the red paint on your 6Z, is this the same Alpha with the floppy head? All my 6Zs have tilts at the neck pretty bad. The crooked head thing is just a joke, it's amazing how many MPCs have 'em. I also find the 6Z's head doesn't sit as well in fighter mode as the other heads... it's a shame though because it's one of my favorite looking heads.

Hmm... sounds like yours might be looser than mine. Mine definitely don't lock but they stay in place pretty well in almost all positions. This might just be another case of classic Toynami build tolerances more than anything. Sigh... go Toynami go.
-
I'm confused... why would you want the head to "lock" in battloid mode? Don't you want it to be able to move around so you can pose it better or are you going for like an upside down pose... I guess if you were holding it upside down it would be a problem. Still a great job on those customs Robo. I can't believe you were able to mask that bright red so well!

I remember hearing from someone who did actually get replacements. That does suck though. Out of curiosity, did they ask you to send in your busted ones? I'd find that pretty funny. I did take some pics of the new & improved series 2 version, it's funny how little a change seemed to make such a big improvement. On the plus side, at least Toynami listened enough to get the second version right... I think that's a first for them.

New Robotech Shadow Chronicles Vid
jenius replied to terry the lone wolf's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Seems like the "bottom line" is a day late since TSC has apparently breathed new life into Robotech. -
Head lasers are harder plastic than Banpresto. I have a full review coming up some time in the next week that should be rather informative but by then you'll probably have handled yours and figured out everything you need to know.

I thought sitting on the fence had to do with not deciding which direction to go. I'm happy going in all directions so you might just say my legs are tired from running in circles. The ass is fine though. I thought that was the price for the new Mospeada DVD box set?

Am I the only one hoping Toynami will be the first person to buy a CMs Tread and then turn around and improve upon it and then release their own Tread? I would be THRILLED to own two different Treads. Pipedream? Yeah, probably.

I'm absolutely thrilled. Someday's I like me a boxy Legioss and on those days I do appreciate the Toynami look. Somedays I like me a stylized Legioss and up until now I've had to just appreciate some fan art... but now I'll have that too. Now, if only I can get another one to fill those "in between" days. As to the whole complaining thing, MW has definitely gotten negative and a bit ugly lately and I absolutley don't blame anyone for being unhappy with that. I don't mean to come off like the complaining is all a good thing (and I realize I may have sounded like that). I just meant that in this particular thread it seems to make a bit more sense since you're going to have eager fans dissecting what glimpses they have for the very first time... and those glimpses are of an unfinished resin prototype to boot... much analysis must be done!

Who's battying now? Oooh the irony! Y'all need to relax, what do you honestly expect people to do when something new is introduced? Piss themselves with glee or take a good hard look at it and determine how much of there money it'd be worth to them. Besides, this toy takes nice liberal leaps from standard linearts, obviously that requires discussion. This toy also involves some complicated tricks no other toy manufacturer has pulled off, people are bound to discuss that also. So now you can stop your battying and let us get back to ours

Those are the Popy pieces right? Sometimes called "magnet action?" Man, I've been dying for pics before I preordered and no one was coming through with anything solid. I think HLJ bumped the released date back to April.... Hmm... not sure how impressed I am...

LOL, Graham really is everywhere! It's like reinventing Where's Waldo over here. The CMs did an ultra-stylized mold from the look of it, Toynami did pretty much the opposite. At the moment I'm actually enjoying the Toynami mold more but Toynami, to my knowledge, never did us the favor of displaying their Beta like CMs is doing with their Tread (stand alone bomber style). Now, CMs has to do us the favor of showing their Tread in Soldier mode. Ideally I would love to have Toynami sit back, let CMs release their Tread, buy one for themselves. Play with it, see what doesn't work, improve their own mold, and then release a Beta having learned from CMs mistake (as I'm sure CMs did with Toynami's MPC Alpha). Either way it's becoming a great time to be a huge Mospeada fan again!

That's a mean spirited post don't you think? This thing is going to cost and arm and a leg and you shouldn't care if its flawed because you're desperate. Besides, I think most of what you're seeing here are observations upon people seeing the toy for the first time as they try to digest what they're seeing. It'd be a pretty boring thread if we just rained praise down without taking a critical eye to it.

From the angle in mog's pic you can see the missiles are sitting up awfully high... I hope that's just a mistransformation.

I would guess it's just removeable.

Wow, in that lineart it shows the arm extends even further out to accomodate the transformation of the Legioss while attached... Man, that'd require some telescoping action on a toy and I can't imagine that'd be very stable.
-
Thanks Chowyunskinny! So it looks to me that CMs is simulating the piece that attaches the Tread to the Legioss by including a separate cradle. The lineart shows the attaching arm comes out from the base of the Tread and that doesn't look like what's happening on this prototype toy (and also a route Toynami mentioned they would probably go if they made their Beta). Also interesting to note is how the arms of the CM Tread is nothing at all like the lineart in its current iteration (but is also being handled the same way Toynami was). I'm excited, can't wait to see more complete versions. The animation magic sits in how far back the Legioss slides into the Tread. The Legioss gets deep enough into the tread where the arm doesn't have to extend very far from the Tread and can easily retract back into it. It's also important to remember that the tread has a lot of depth when standing in Soldier mode to help accomodate that massive beam sitting in between its legs...
-
I wish I had some lineart pics because I'm pretty certain that is the actual connecting piece they're using for the Legioss. That landing gear I recall from the lineart (the center one in the cradle) and the two clamps coming upward look to latch onto the hips in fighter mode.

Ah, that's the Tatsunoko funkiness that has always confused me. If any company knows funky licensing agreeements it's Tatsunoko. I'll trust your conversation over my piecing together. Tatsunoko and HG being in the corporate bed together it works out similarly anyway and goes back to that discussion about in-roads with distributors and reaching different markets. If HG & Tats communicate well enough they might be able to work out some sort of toy market arbitrage... and we all might benefit from better products. Fingers crossed! Thanks for clarifying Roger!

I really hope it can turn its head... Edit - those intakes are hideous...

Graham asked this thread be saved for Macross conversations and the thread dedicated to the Legioss feature the Legioss conversation. You may have better luck asking your question there but my guess is it's far too soon for preorders.
