Holy Jesus, this company's first effort at a transformable toy will be a ride armor? That has disaster written all over it... although I hope to God I'm wrong. Was Toynami's version 1/10 or 1/12? It's the same size standing as a Toynami Alpha in Battloid. EDIT - Those bastids have the 1/72 Japanese version of the Gakken Legioss I want in their display. SaveRobotech, go steal it for me!

Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!

That just made me picture Milia all oiled up... -
$150 is definitely much more expensive than $60. Yes, you get a lot more for the extra $90 but it's still an extra $90 you would have to spend. Dragging Toynami's non-existant Beta into the conversation is a non-issue since no one out there is going to feel burned that they spent money on a Toynami Beta. The more accurate question is whether or not people will feel the CM's Alpha is worth $60 and then whether or not the Beta was worth the additional $90 (using your hypothetical pricing). It's also a lot tougher for people to part with $150 in one shot rather than $75 in two different shots. Basically, I just don't see a BIG backlash although a few of us (most of us board crawlers) will certainly be making some remarks .
-
If these were bigger or equivalent in price I'd agree. Since they're going to be the same size and much more expensive I don't think we're going to see a huge Toynami backlash (well, more than we've already seen). Besides, as it sits right now the look of the CMs Legioss leaves a bit to be desired so it'll probably boil down to which interpretation people enjoy more (with the CMs getting the huge "BUT IT COMES WITH A TREAD!!! boost). I really need to see more on how these two toys link together. The cradle is just not going to be very easy on the eyes if its necessary at all times. A red "Beta" is seen in the aborted Sentinels effort. There is no precedent for one in Mospeada though aside from the fact that all Legioss are space worthy and you never know when you're going to have to launch one into space.

William, this GBP of Yamato's is based on a fan custom. The fan custom had different decals (all were Prometheus) including a really nifty Prometheus leg decal that showed the eagle pecking at the ship's name sake.
-
C'mon now, all you're arguing there is who thinks what looks good... that's just a matter of personal preference. You think it looks pretty bland, some people think the new stickers look kinda bland, some people think the original stickers didn't look bland. I just think the current stickers are confusing since they reference two different ships of berth whereas the original custom was very specific to one (and, I'm with the other person, the Prometheus sticker on it was pretty tight).
-
Colony ships?
-
I still don't understand the conflicting stickers. Is this thing a GBP from an ARMD or is it from Prometheus?

Was ep 20 (Fyana) supposed to be a flashback episode? The entire episode is essentially a Uoodo rerun and it happens without warning just before the big jungle attack. Why not segue by showing Chirico sitting on the boat first just thinking back? I watched like 10 minutes and then skipped it when I found I knew the words... hope I didn't miss some interest new tidbit they slipped in.

Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
jenius replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Easily the least annoying Mac7 character... except when he dies and then doesn't die. If they killed him in that scene it would have redeemed a portion of the entire series for me... his miraculous resurrection sucked. This is coming from a guy who hoped every character in Mac7 EXCEPT Gamlin would be killed the first time I watched it through to that point. When he did die I was like "wow, a brave move for the writers! Finally a touch of something more than fluff!" It was like a death to rival Roy's for a moment there. -
I'm pretty much spending all my free time watching Votoms, it's much better than I was expecting. I'm especially amazed by how infrequently it seems to be recyling animation. Um, is it just me or do the boobs on the Fyana figure look wrong? Must fight desire to start collecting Votoms toys...

Toynami Announces Masterpiece Cyclones at Toyfair
jenius replied to chowyunskinny's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
While I am still terribly let down with Toynami for not making the slight improvements they should have made to the Alpha line that would have made them much better toys (improvements they probably still won't have made on the upcoming Shadow Chronicles Alphas) I will point out that they did make some pretty great improvements in their 1/100 line. The 1/100 Wave2 is pretty sweet in comparison to the first wave. Does this mark a new trend at Toynami of actually listening to its customers? We can only hope. -

Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!

My opinion: Isamu, Gould, and Myung were not at all children. Were they flawed? Yes, certainly, but belittling the dynamics of their relationships and their character flaws as "coming of age" is just patently wrong. The same is true of Shin in MacZero. Yes, he has problems, no you can't write it off as being the story of a child growing up. Hikaru and Minmay are better examples of children coming to age (focusing on those crux teenage years with the added pressures of near armageddon). The examples of their coming to age are bountiful within the context of their relationships with each other (all the awkward moments and a love triangle that hinged on no small amount of innocence and naivette) as well as their reactions to the events that unfold (Hikaru's first kill, Minmay's realization of Kaifun's faults). Mac7 has Mylene who would fit right in with that (isn't she like 14?) and she spends the whole series trying to figure out what it is she wants. Basara doesn't really fit anything as he lacks a third dimension of any sort and the audience is instead presented with mirages to fabricate depth. So, arbitrarily labeling these shows as "children-oriented" or "adult-oriented" can't be an exact science since all of them cover a wide spectrum (although some do-so more than others). I would prefer something in the vein of the original series that has some characters that clearly need to do some growing up but that are grown up enough that they don't annoy the piss out of me (like the Mac7 cast did). -

I agree that an adult-themed Macross would be awesome but disagree with any thought of an Isamu like character. I would prefer if there is an Isamu he's the best friend of a more natural lead. How about a mix of Roy and Hikaru (like an older Hikaru with more poise and a bit of a wild side). -
Oh you're misreading it, it's the SUPER Vision Army... 'cause they have impecable seeing ability, not because they're over-seers of any sort. The protodevlin only brainwashed the PC who could see really well.
-
I'd be happy to do that... anybody know a place selling cheap Urban Camos? Stupid Amenbo shut down on me for a while so it looks like I'm out of luck for a bit.

I just saw the first episode of Votoms (watched the English version on the bonus disc for kicks) and I was super surprised by the quality of the visuals. This is great work. The story is off to a decent start also and I like the less cutesy character design. I don't think it will ever get me into buying the toys for the series but it looks like this might be a good way to kill time until my new desk comes in and I can actually start working at home again.

Those are diecast 1/35 scale ride armors, they're up on my anymoon.com site but they're one of my original posts. They're pretty darn hard to come by. Edit - great custom GBP Physioguy -

I swear, half the time we communicate I feel like the conversation should be followed by the old "Now You Know" PSA graphic. Thanks! -

Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
jenius replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Wait, they developed in Mac7? I musta missed that part. I just thought we got to meet a broken Max and an argumentative Millia, winse, wash, repeat. Were they different at the end of the series then they were in the beginning (clearly they're both different from where we left them at Macross)? Edit: WINSE? What am I 2 now? -

MacZero doesn't look to be coming over, I wouldn't expect another Macross to do so either. -
Toynami Announces Masterpiece Cyclones at Toyfair
jenius replied to chowyunskinny's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I'm not saying anyone is jumping the gun here, but aren't you all jumping the gun? The price will decline and you know you're all going to own one when you find it for sale 50% off at some point... and at that point you're probably going to think it's a good enough toy. I mean, isn't that par for how these Toynami's go? Besides, we don't know how it's engineered yet, we don't know if it has any gimmicks, and while it's safe to assume it won't be the strongest thing in the world we already know it's more poseable than the old Gakken (where the Singapore fetches $200+ and the Japan catches about $400). I'm going to buy one, I'll probably pay full price for the Scott one just to know I'll never be like the people searching for a Scott Alpha now, and I'll probably open it with high expectations despite the fact Toynami let me down so much on those Alphas. I also don't think you'll be seeing anyone else make Ride Armors for quite a while... if ever... though I'd love to be proven wrong. In the meantime Toynami is stating only 10K runs this time... do you think they'll stick to it?
