That Tread is way cooler than Toynami's version with the fold down cockpit. I'm amazed... EDIT - The picture of it in the quasi-Gerwalk mode would be how the Tread should look (if the cockpit were down) with the battroid Legioss attached in that picture of the super armed Legioss Tread combo that everyone loves to drool over.

I would love to be the guinea pig on all of these things. Unfortunately, my time at home has dropped to almost nill so I never am able to work on my website or even purchase toys any more. Very sad days in my neck of the woods as far as toys are concerned. In fact, 99% of my toys are now officially in storage and it seems super silly to plunk down $100 on something you're immediately going to have to bury in a tub somewhere. Soo, looks like a good bet I'll be with 1/1 on this one... waiting for someone else's review.

Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
jenius replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Roy was killed by an unnamed soldier in SDF Macross as well as DYRL. In SDFM the death is not really attributable to the soldier though since it takes him so much longer to actually die. Still, you can argue the DYRL death is more heroic since it directly saves the lives of Misa and Hik. The TV version had more of a lasting effect on me though. I don't think there's been anything as touching in any sequel to Macross. I actually thought Mac7 was going to do it when Gamlin died in battle. That was such a touching and poignant moment... it could have really been used for some good... then Gamlin was miraculously alive again in the next episode and ruined the whole thing. -
I meant to say that Aoshima will sell the slightly differently colored "Tread" version but Toynami will sell the standard Beta in the same colors as the existing alpha. If you wanted to make a mismatched Alpha/Tread I'm sure you could but I don't think anyone is going to have to worry about that accidentally happening or not having a choice to avoid it. More variations = more easy money. For example, I'll probably have all of the Aoshima Legioss/Treads to go with all my Toynami Alpha/Betas. Sweet
-
My hope is that Aoshima has more input and that you're right in your observations. This being Toynami, my expectation is a bit lower I'm sensing that Toynami has just realized that a slight repaint to match up to the Aoshima product could make this toy more profitable and more worth making. The hip joint is an interesting puzzle at the moment... man if this thing has hips with ball joints it's going to be a ton of fun (provided the feet ar nimble enough to work with them).

I think you're reading too much into this. I don't think Aoshima "took over" anything but is rather collaborating with Toynami and potentially assisting in the actual production. The Beta prototype is still Toynami's product so Toynami gets the design credit (or discredit if the thing sucks). While certainly possible, I kind of doubt they'll go that route. It might encourage would-be Toynami consumers on future product to hold off in the hopes of an Aoshima variation (different paint scheme or something) being released later. Also, RT.com still has Toynami Alphas in stock so I'm not sure how eager they'd be to get more of such a similar product in stock. That said, if anyone thinks it'll make a buck (beyond Aoshima) then it'll probably happen.

I finally got a review up on the Takatoku 1/100s and included another comparison pic to the Toynami's (as well as a couple other comparison pics that appeared in previous reviews). It also includes comparisons to the Takatoku 1/55s. Check it out.

Will you buy the upcoming 1/60 YF19 w foldbooster bundle?
jenius replied to Beware of Blast's topic in Toys
I haven't bought a single YF-19 but eventually I'll pick up this booster combo set... hopefully at some sort of discount. -
I love BoB like I loved AgentOne. I always appreciate other members who will stir up the ire of others more than myself. I think both of them have (had) a lot of good to say and very valid points... it's just a shame neither seem to know when enough has been said. It's like me when it comes to how craptacular the 1/60 Yamato VF-1 is... In his defense, BoB is attacking Yamato and only (it seems to me) lashing out defensively against members who then defend Yamato and complain about his complaints. I know I've slammed him before for his repetitious gratuitous attacks and I'm sure he spat back but this isn't anything that seems personal or should be abolished. The man (presumably) has a right to batty as vehemently and frequently as he likes and you have every right to put him on the ignore list. Personally, I kind of like it. We get Graham giving us the great scoops and all the good news about Yamato followed by BoB telling us why Yamato is the devil and is actually the true entity behind WWII and the likely assassinators of JFK. It all serves to keep me informed without being over-excited into making irrational preorders.

What's the base 1/60 valkyrie? It has version 1.0 arms (removeable tabs for the gun) but a 2.0 backpack (accomodates fast packs). The color looks uniform though. You're going to have to watch out for the legs. While the version 1.0 legs have the holes I have found they're not alligned properly to work with fast packs.
-
Brown Garland is out with 2.0 shoulders. Red Garland is being re-released as a Megazone giftset with movies and some other stuff at a steeper price.
-
Thanks for the nod Los! With the improved shoulders these toys are great. It's always fun to get my hands on a toy I like this much. It's just too bad the shoulders had all those problems but if Yamato gets some version 2.0 shoulders available for you then those toys will undoubtedly be a great deal.

13CM is just over 5" and, I'd guess a ride armor stands about 7' tall or 84". This would put the scale around 1/16.5. It's a decent enough size though but something that small with as many intricate pieces as the ride armor may lead to some big durability issues. Time will tell, I'm excited. This is the Megahouse version, we still haven't seen Beagle's efforts. Should be an interesting Fall...
-
I'd second, or third, at this point Totoro's list. The VB-6 might be closer to $90 and the 1/72 VF-11B might be closer to $60 (smart buyers always opt for the fast pack version).

I wonder where the front shock absorbers go. Probably under the gauntlets but it doesn't seem to show them.
-
It's probably just for the prototypes. I remember Toynami showed a metallic Scott MPC before its release.

I do agree with you on pretty much all points but I did just want to point out that it is a new prototype as it seems like a pretty important detail a lot of people can easily miss. The cockpit is a big deal and the toy they're showing now is very simple (looks like an 80s toy... desperately needs an A-stance) but that also translates into very easy to make. Now, I'm already in the "I love the Legioss and Tread and will buy all toys of them" camp so I'm not going to swear anything off. Personally, I feel like Toynami's version is a little more true to what I recall the vehicle being like in bomber mode (and linked mode in the old prototype pics) but I do like the CMs stylized version also (with obvious exceptions for items I genuinely expect them to fix).
-
I think that trailer just traumatized me.
-
That's pretty clearly an entirely brand new prototype. Click here to see pictures of the original prototype. Notice that the new prototype actually has a cockpit and that it folds down in battloid mode. It's really far from ideal since it doesn't fold into the chest cavity and get concealed like I believe it should. The Legioss looks decently improved but I hope that third missile box is removeable, I'm not a fan of that.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other. If Aoshima is releasing a slightly tweak MPC Alpha then it's not a difficult leap to think they'd do something similar with the Tread. Since no 1/48 tread was ever made as a model they probably wouldn't feel the need to tweak the Tread to be like the models they're already selling so it may just be a straight reissue of Toynami's Beta... that is, if Toynami is ever going to actually sell that Beta. Edit - From pics Rob juts posted it looks like Toynami/Aoshima moved the legs away from the waist of Beta. It's definitely a bit curious... it could mean that, if this toy does transform, it would be more capable of having an A-stance because the hips can be pitched inward (if the joint allows for it). It also MIGHT mean that the feet of the alpha can be tucked inside the Beta's frame rather than being outside of them. If the feet do slide within the Alpha this could theoretically add a whole lot more stability to the unified Alpha/Beta. I have a lot of glare on my monitor at the moment so I can't gleam any more details.

I got mine and immediately put the box in storage . I'm hoping to pull them out in the next week or two though.

Auto Pilot Off's pic is of a VF-OS doing the cobra maneuver. If you've seen the last episode of Mac Zero it should be familiar to you. If his pics aren't showing then that's the problem.

Toynami news on their Beta and 1/100 Fast Packs
jenius replied to protostar8's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The only way to de-brick-ify the Beta is to give it a prominent cockpit in fighter mode. I'm actually thrilled with the cockpit, I prefer it to the slender cockpit of the CMs version. You have a good point as to it not having visible transformation mechanisms though but the only way we'd know better on that is to get a picture from below it... or if any of that Japanese writing says "transformable". -
i currently own two of each MPC Alpha. I will be selling one of each and buying one of each Aoshima version. I will also be buying one of each CMs version. I will also be buying every ride armor toy. I am a Mospeada whore.
