Poll- Which Macross/Robotech mecha would you like to see
jenius replied to Maiden Japan's topic in Toys
I know of a company who thought long and hard about making the Gosu but elected not to pull the trigger. I don't believe they ever got it to prototype stage. -
The two parts I hated about the fourth movie: Monkey Shia, Indy in a lead fridge... Even if he were saved from the radiation the force from being launched would have left him as bloody pulp in the veggie crisper. I can stomach some zaniness.... like the two cars driving on a suprisingly well constructed road in the middle of the amazon while two swordsman spar while standing on the trunk but Monkey Shia and Indy in a fridge were serious "c'mon" moments. Also, I was never quite clear on why the Russians needed the Roswell alien... it seemed like they had pretty much everything they needed already in South America.

Poll- Which Macross/Robotech mecha would you like to see
jenius replied to Maiden Japan's topic in Toys
Yeah, this is a Macross board so I'm sure the Glaug will win, but I'm thinking Invid all the way. -
I thought the pins had to be removed to know whether or not they're the dreaded knurled pins or not? My VF-1S had at least 10 transformations and six months before its shoulders gave up the ghost

Yeah, I guess my point is that there's gotta be some sort of compromise related to the tail section. It was earlier remarked that the backpack looked too high in battroid mode for the Hi-Metal 1/100 (which is fair) but the point is that it kinda has to be too long or too short somewhere.

Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.6
jenius replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Presumably so, there's been nothing in the mags relating to improvements. -
I just updated my site with some info about the anniversary VF-1S V2 toy Yamato released. While I was at it I did some line art comparisons (thanks to the Macross Mecha Manual). The V2 toy does a pretty impressive job of replicating the line art in fighter mode: But notice how far back the tail section of the plane is supposed to go.

I believe that's the 1/35 scale Regult that was made for a Wonderfest or something like that a while ago. The joke was that it was big enough to be a lawn ornament.

Both were made to order... but not many people care for Hayao so not many people ordered them. The second hand sellers bought extra Max TV-1As because they figured a lot of people wouldn't be aware of how to get them and would really want them after they were released. Since those sellers are still sitting on Max TV-1As they can't get rid of for a profit they chose not to bother with Hayao.

Or more accurately, you typed it... but it doesn't address the volumes of material that have come out of Japan... where Robotech doesn't have much to do with the price of rice. Even the Mega House deal seemed to be more an event of Toynami taking a toy that was being produced regardless of their efforts and then working out a distribution deal (without any Robotech re-badging). Two deals were influenced by Robotech, the Aoshima and Beagle deals. Everything else, including the new line art book, seem to have had nothing at all to do with Robotech. So, while it may be easy for you to say, it doesn't seem very accurate.

It's really hard to say Mospeada would have been forgotten without Robotech. Mospeada was at least moderately successful, look at the huge droves of 80s merchandise (granted, it's much less than was planned and not credited with selling particularly well... okay, and potentially credited with forcing Gakken out of the toy market). That said, during this economic boom toy manufacturers reached out for every avenue to make money and toward the end of that property grab they did find Mospeada and FOUR different Japanese companies made toys for it (Aoshima, Mega House, CMs, Beagle). Of those four, three companies profited from a Robotech relationship (mega house, aoshima and beagle) while the one that didn't profit at all was the only one to finish their line of toys. I don't know if Robotech really deserves credit for ALL of the Mospeada merchandise boom we just saw... I think it was more the economic boom. On that point, not a single new Southern Cross toy came out during those boom years so it goes without question that SDCSC would indeed be dead to the world if it weren't for Robotech. Now that the economic boom is over, it looks like SDCSC, Mopseada, and Robotech are all essentially dead.

That's a Max, he said he's looking for Hayao.

I'm definitely going to buy one of these. Looks simple and solid. On that note, I think Toynami really should have exploited their "super poseable" line more with a much better VF-1 toy (the two they offered were horrid) and all of the other mechs. A "super poseable" Beta should have been released 6 years ago...

allegedly the VF100 line began and died with the VF-25 and the full armor VF-25S never got made. It will be interesting to see if we get a "hi-metal" version of the VF-25.

I'm sure even the people who are saying "I want the VF-4!" realize that it'd be a pretty stupid way for Bandai to run a business if they started the series with the most obscure figures and then worked their way to the more mainstream. You make your money on the proven winners and then you work your way to the more obscure stuff. If anything it's pretty shocking they started with the VF-19Kai instead of the VF-1. Bandai is the only company out there who knows how well the VF-17 sells as a toy, they probably have good reason for it not being one of their first 1/100s. The VF-4 would get no "OMG I remember that vehicle from a cartoon when I was a kid, I'm going to buy it!" sales.
-
1) We don't have the 1/60 VF-19Kai yet from yamato to compare it to 2) Even if we did the Bandai toy is 1/100 scale so it'd be an unfair comparison
-
I'm totally okay with a swapping shield on the 1/100 VF-1... after all, the old Takatoku didn't have a heat shield and it practically defined "perfect transformation" back in the day.

The MW Automotive Thread Quattro SpecV
jenius replied to areaseven's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
My fiance just purchased a Tiguan. It's allegedly extremely safe which I know isn't a huge priority for everyone car shopping but it was something I paid closer attention to when it was my future wife making the purchase. She got a 2010, the interior is nice, ride feels much tighter than the other tiny SUVs we test drove. The build quality has seemed pretty impressive so far... not a single thing is "not quite right" yet. Moon roof is huge, stereo is decent, it feels peppy and has a tight turning radius, and has plenty of room for the kids... should they pop up. You do lose a bit of trunk space compared to a Rav4. She also loves that there are so few Tiguans in our area so she feels a little unique. -
Yeah, I was actually thinking the same thing. Edit - at 1/100, that cockpit detail is superb. I'm impressed.

Too high up... or correct?

Fire up a video game with a sound test and lift away! (this comes from someone with no experience in such things... but it seems like an easy way of doing things).
-
Did someone say dual guns and fast packs? Oh, they'll exist... but you better expect them to be exclusives... probably with the fold drive or something.
-
Cool, that's what I thought but just wanted to be sure.

New macross saga based movie (Robotech Genesis)
jenius replied to kamikaze_kamujin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So what is Seto's source? Was it a UEG news post? I bet this is in the other thread... I'll go check there. -
So what's the process for getting the replacements? If I requested via PM do I now expect a PM request for payment?
