Strike A Pose! V.4 - The Macross Mech Pose Thread
jenius replied to JCSaves's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
The SDF-1 is more solid in cruiser mode but the Mac Quarter is more fun in battroid mode. I don't think I've been unclear about this? Where am I losing you? -

What's your point? I say "The Mac Quarter is more fun to pose in battroid." You say "The SDF-1 isn't meant to be fun!" We haven't disagreed... but you've managed to get testy about it. -

See which one poses better in battroid mode though... Bandai could have done better with cruiser mode but having it be designed to be a flying "X" meant they had a lot more work cut out for them. I wish the Quarter was more of a flying brick like the original SDF-1 as that is how I think a cruiser should look... and ought to make for more stable toys. -
I was going to buy a Hikaru VF-1J GN-U (for reference pictures) but I couldn't find it... I'm guessing it must be sold out. EDIT - I don't think $150 is ideal for the VF-11, I think it's "fair." An ideal price for it would be about $100 shipped. It's a nice toy but it just doesn't blow me away as being anything nearly as expensive

This is a way better scheme than Yamato's 25th anniversary schemes... and a very impressive job with the model.

Same thing happened to me. I bought a weathering Khaki Defender, Volumes 3 and 4 of the 1/250 series and chose SAL but got EMS. I'm guessing they either have a threshold package size or dollar value and if you exceed that you have to use EMS or FedEX. EDIT - Seems Raptormesh knows the haps -

The VF-11 toy is good but the bang for the buck is light. I'd say $150 shipped for a VF-11 is a fair price. It's a cool toy, no doubt, but is it THAT much cooler than a 1/60 V2 VF-1 toy? No, not really. The VF-22 toys offer more bang for the buck and they're going for less (although I prefer the YF-21).

I've been avoiding purchasing any modern toys while I wait for the YF-29, VF-19K, and 1/3000 SDF-1 kit (which I'm hoping shows up on HLJ) but I had to break down and buy a couple things. I was tempted to get the VF-11C also but opted out, after shipping it's still beyond what I think that toy should cost.

You're thinking in too much of a bubble. Macek had big dreams for Robotech that essentially were killed by the economic realities of the late 80s. In the late 90s nostalgia mixed with an economic bubble enough to create a golden opportunity for just about all marketable 80s properties. The HG staff, as we know it, represents a half-hearted attempt by HG to cash in. It wasn't their primary business model, they didn't know how to handle it, so they fumbled through it. You can be a glass is half full guy and say "but Robotech had an OVA (ignoring the quality) and some new merchandise" but the truth is that a better funded, more experienced team might have had a real chance at getting something lasting done. That said, if WB were to make a LAM, HG will be geniuses for doing just barely enough to revive the franchise (but that still won't make any of the staff there talented story-tellers or promoters).

Terminator 5/Terminator: Genisys, opening July 1, 2015

Yeah, that was my immediate thought. Not sure why we'd use spoilers when discussing possible plots of an unreleased movie based on tidbits from a movie released a couple years ago- 508 replies

Just being able to stand on one foot is impressive. Very nice articulation on this one.

For my part, I wish the VF-25 was a chunkier looking bird (in animation). It seems almost feminine (or maybe insect) looking to me. Of all the DX toys issues, looking a bit more chunky than the animation wouldn't be a major fault for me. I think that's why I'm a fan of the Legioss. The battroid mode looks solid (albeit tiny in comparison to Macross vehicles). EDIT - I do realize that the Legioss doesn't look worthy of flight in fighter mode so yeah, there's some give with the take. -
In the TV show she definitely says "My black-haired Busey" (not sure on the name). She specifically calls him a "black-haired" child. That's what made me initially say "hmmm... don't remember that."

Okay, on the literary inaccuracy watch, does televesion Cersei have a child (that died of fever) that literary Cersei never had? I don't remember there being a blacked haired Cersei baby that died in the books. It really doesn't matter, I imagine they're doing that to frame the later reveal about the King's family, but I was just curious if I've forgotten that story or if it's something new.

I think this was on the USA channel at 7AM when I was a freshman in high school. I used to watch it every morning while I got ready for school.

I definitely wish the Quarter were as sturdy as the SDF-1... that would have been pretty amazing. To be fair though, the SDF-1 is a flying brick. The Quarter is a flying X with WAY more articulation than the SDF-1. Bandai had a bit more of a challenge on their hands. On the flip side, outside of cruiser mode, the Quarter is a heck of a lot more fun with its quasi-Daedalus attack, faux aircraft elevators, spinning gun turrets, and insane articulation. It's no where near as iconic though... gotta love how that SDF-1 looks in the background of a good display.

I updated the list found here on MW with some additional information. Since I don't own all variants of the V2 I was thinking there might be some flaws in it. If anyone sees any, please let me know -

You guys talking about the categories? They're broken (see second post). The website had some major problems that are still being fixed. Anymoon.com gets worked on with all volunteer time and me and my cohort haven't had time to straighten that out. It's really odd because if I go into the admin center it tells me just how many posts relate to the categories but if I then choose a category it tells me something like "There are no results". Bizarre. I'm afraid the only ways to sort right now are using the month links on the right (which sucks 'cause who knows when I posted what) or by using the "next page" link at the bottom.

Since this is the only active 1/60 VF-1 post I see on here, I ask you all a favor. Can you please check out my all encompassing 1/60 V2 review on anymoon.com and tell me what I screwed up or forgot? It got massive so I'm sure I missed some stuff in my efforts to streamline it. Check it out and let me know -

Seriously though, I do have a blue MPC Alpha listed for trade right now if anyone here is really pining for one. Take a look! -
Watched it tonight and loved it. I was a little iffy on Jaime's casting at first but by the end of the episode I was on board. It was a little tricky for me to tell who was who as they're all a bunch of white kids with varying hairdos who otherwise look similar and aren't referenced by name very often. You only know Theon is Theon because he refers to the Starks in a way that doesn't include himself. The one thing I found peculiar was the changing of the opening scene. It starts off very like the book but as I recall the scout climbs a tree and watches everyone get slaughtered. Instead, in the show, he inexplicably survives despite being knelt down right in front of an "other." One other slight change was Daenarys (sp?) relationship with Khal Drogo. IIRC, in the book the Khal is super respectful of Daen and she eventually mounts him and there is love born out of this mutual respect. I suppose that would have taken a little too long to convey through the TV medium so instead they sort of mimic the scene before the Khal pushes her down and takes her from behind. Other little tweaks I understood better. Tyrion is having his love of hookers emphasized to sex things up a bit, they're drumming up the fear of "the death walkers" (or ice walkers, I forget what they're called) for a bit of suspense. All things considered, so far it's very faithful and very well done. I'm definitely going to keep watching. I'm only part way through the third book but I do hope we see some follow up seasons and the author wraps the series up.

Bandai DX Chogokin YF-29 Durandal Valkyrie
jenius replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
It kills me that so many MWers have grown to like their toys dull. Models are dull and realistic. Toys are shiny. Imagine if Optimus Prime were dull gray and black... (instead of purple* and pink*) he'd be a lame Ultra Magnus knock-off. * as per Low_Alt's vision Can someone spell out for me what's different about the hip and the knife in those photos? I don't have my DX-25 out so I can't immediately see what improvements have been made. EDIT - "kills" is waayyyy too strong a word. -
Yes, the sound booster is to be sold about two months after the YF-19 separately (for about the same price as a V2 VF-1 if I'm not mistaken).

The whole reason HG thinks they can make a Macross Saga movie is because enough of the Macross Saga plot is generic. Just don't call your fanfic/fanpic ROBOTECH or MACROSS and instead call it something else (heck, thinly veil it). You can still have big mechs that transform fighting big invading aliens. You know BigWest isn't going to come after you so feel free to leave the names unique to Macross characters in there.

That's why Bandai Hi-Metal series is there. Less than $100 and still sweet. We still have choices. -
