Prometheus - on Blu-Ray and DVD Oct. 9, 2012
jenius replied to Pizza the Hutt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I watched this in 3D on Sunday. It was a totally fun ride with a few great moments. Unfortunately it ramps up the implausibility more and more as we get toward the end (to be expected I suppose) but that makes it easy after the credits have rolled to start looking at the movie start to finish and say "Wow, that was pretty terribly written." I asked my brother (who went to the theater with me) nearly all the questions in that Red Letter Media youtube file on the car ride home. I also was wondering why Vickers has a med pod only suitable for men in her little assylum area... why? Some of the questions I understand can't be answered because mediocre writers were taking a stab at symbolism. Would a society that can build life and travel all the universe really need to rely on a mechanism that required suicide? No, there's clearly an effort at symbolism in play there. So, I certainly don't NOT recommend this film because it was fun but boy, does it also seem like a horrible missed opportunity in hindsight. With some better writing that made things more cohesive and plausible while fleshing out the characters better this could have been epic. Instead it was just a fun popcorn flick. Alright, so here's where I think they should have gone... PROTOCULTURE! C'mon, it could have been cool. The Space Jockeys were having a civil war... yadda yadda yadda. Do I still need spoilers? Here we go: -
I heard for shucks and giggles a Japanese design firm took it upon themselves to design the ultimate Legioss toy... but they just work on it when they've got some down time and they have no expectation of ever seeing it made. Too bad too. I sent in a request that, since it's all a pipe dream anyway, they include some connection mechanisms for the never-to-be-made (or even designed) Tread as well.

Honestly, it's too soon for me to say. I've only handled the one DMZ toy so far. I'm hoping to spend a lot more time with my Votoms toys in the future but I've been side-tracked by a lot of other hobbies and all the stuff that comes with having a baby on the way.

Hasn't that preorder page been there forever? They also had the preorder up for Yellows Ride Armor for a long while. It seems silly to release it now though... the Alpha that goes with it is now very old by today's standards and desperately in need of a "renewal" version.

What if it's a 1/48 V2? I still dream of such a thing. That line wouldn't need to be complete but if it had the production quality of today's Yamato offerings plus more bells and whistles, more points of articulation, etc... anyway, if they went that route I'd hope they'd give us the original Mac toys before anything Macross the First.

Yeah, and I got my VF-25S DX renewal preorder in a couple weeks before release but I wouldn't go recommending that approach here either. I hope this all ends up being hysterics again but still, I suspect some people are going to end up paying more than $227 shipped especially with 14,000 Yen right now being about $180.
-
That didn't really happen with the VF-171 so that seems like a bit of a gamble.

I don't understand why Bandai hasn't yanked the MSRP way up on these things. If demand greatly exceeds the supply you're going to bring to the table, any sensible business person would yank the price up through the roof to drop demand down. Granted, Michael won't sell as well as a Ozma or Alto but seeing what's been happening you'd think they'd at least bump the MSRP up from 14,000 to 16,000 or something. Bizarre.

I'm hoping to start having some VOTOMS reviews up on anymoon.com in the next few months. Here's a pic of a Takara DMZ Meliqua (THM exclusive):

Isn't this the place that sold the VF-171 before any other store and then sold another 200 (number is hopefully hyperbole) after every reputable dealer closed their preorders after selling like 7 units? I suspect many people are about to feel a very similar burn.

I'm just sayin' if they slapped that scheme on the existing toy I'd buy it.

What if alien is just amovie version of what happened like dyrl? -
It'll go great with your Hi-Metal toys!
-
I would like to see an Alpha design that takes the existing idea and just rounds everything out (especially the underside). I'm not sure I'd love the result but I'd like to see it.

It's not cancelled, it's now going to be an HDP kit and cost $300. Yes, I'm joking.

My wife is happy with hers, she loves her moon roof. 2010 model bought in 10/2009 and so far no issues.

So did the Boeing X-32 lose the JSF contest to the Lockheed X-35 because the Lockheed looked way more conventional? I watched a similar video on the X-32 and it kind of left you with the same impression. Except, in that video, they also gave you the impression the X-32 would have been cheaper than the Lockheed vehicle. You'd think at some point the military would put its foot down about cost over-runs.

Count me in with the group that thinks it's bad... and i'm a very easy judge of anime. It eventually grew on me a little but i never thought of it as 'good' for a moment.
