  1. I got an email from YesAsia cancelling my preorder... fortunately the next email I received was notice the other one I ordered was prepping for shipping. Man Bandai... you are not making this easy.
  2. Was that Corvette driver just being too shy with the accelerator? It looks like the first time he couldn't get the tires to spin at all and the second time he hooked up when he definitely didn't want to. I've never drag raced at a track but generally when I want my tires to spin I just rev the motor up and drop the clutch... do you do it differently when you're in the blocks? I'm a little out of touch on the art of it all, I've been driving an all wheel drive four banger with an automatic trans for about a decade now.
  3. I hear they're planning for this to be released on the last possible day in 2012 so maybe that'll help.
  4. For now I'm passing on the 19F and 17D but if a YF-29 Focker comes up I'm going to do my darnedest to preorder!
  5. That theory works better if the V1s sold worse. The original V1 releases sold well enough to warrant reissues. The shelf-warmers of the group were the movie version Alto super parts bundle and to a lesser extent the Luca and Michael valks. The Ozma armor bundle was a rather quick mover also. From what I hear, Bandai has been very pleased with the Macross Frontier license in general despite several toys not hitting sales expectations... the V1 DX toys were not one of those which is why they get the renewal. Here's my guess at what happened: The economy tanked. Bandai reduce the number of plants they were working with. Since there are fewer plants they reduced production quantities so that they could continue to turn out product to support multiple licenses. As a byproduct, they've also reduced standing inventory further reducing storage, taxes, and various other overhead costs.
  6. That sounds like the worst idea ever.
  7. It's cool, it's always mentioned in the Macross threads how similar it looks to the VF-4G... it is quite possibly inspired by it.
  8. No, it's a Conbat from Mospeada. IIRC it's the vehicle Yellow crashed on Earth in, the non-transformable fighters of the second earth reclamation mission.
  9. Okay, one more question that bugged me. What did the little birthed alien eat that allowed it to grow to the size where it could fight an engineer?
  10. I'm guessing that's sarcasm? It's already grossed twice its budget of $130MIL.
  11. If I had a garage to park it in and a way of beating the year long wait i'd probably buy one... Maybe that year long wait is all I need for getting that garage though. Anybody seen the movie Drive? Just watched it last night. Overall I'd say it was so-so. The styling was interesting, a mix of late 80s and modern with not much in between. The cars were not particularly impressive and I hate to see a Chrysler 300 used for anything other than cruising. I don't think Ryan Gosling was right for the part... he struck me more as autistic rather than the strong silent type. I'm not saying he acted poorly... just seemed like they needed someone a bit more gruff like a young Clint Eastwood.
  12. Can't BW send a C&D then since HG doesn't have the rights to put a Regult (Battlepod) in anything other than merchandising for the original Robotech series? Ignoring the legal tomfoolery, that was some good looking stuff.
  13. If its an obscure reference now imagine now obscure it is then... and to have a possession of his and to expect others to know him? Edit - it makes less sense because I thought I knew who that guy was... and I was wrong so the reference seems more obscure... but maybe everyone else knows and loves that guy.
  14. It makes even less sense to me now.
  15. Robotech fans want cheap toys... they complained about the mpcs being out of the average fans budget. Remember, being a robotech fan is different from most other anime. A yamato legioss would make robotech fans sad because they couldn't justify buying it... like the mpc cyclones.
  16. I totally missed the mural scene. I mean, I was there, and I was watching, but I'll need to watch in in slow-mo on DVD or something because I couldn't really see what was going on. The engineer in the beginning is totally symbolic. That's like the one instance where I can tell what the writers were trying to do (or, I think so at least). I'm sure if I was reading this instead of watching it as a movie I could figure out the symbolism behind the cross (it seemed to be muddied but I'm guessing it's just "faith" even if that faith is "what I choose to believe" and has nothing to do with Christianity), or the reason why David is so enthralled with Lawrence of Arabia (does anyone know?) or why the captain had a thing for an R&B singer I'm not at all familiar with (and presume not many people would be familiar with in the future but it might just be to set up his little joke about "love the one you're with"). Anyway, the engineer in the beginning is indeed sacrificing himself to create life. It's the circle of life all neatly wrapped into one gesture and you can very easily read into it all sorts of religious subtexts of acts of sacrifice in various religions/myths that either freed, saved, or created life. I'm still bummed at how the engineers were represented... such a waste.
  17. This quote so far is true of all Macross toy manufacturers for all Macross series. Well, I guess Macross Zero's V1 toys didn't even make it to market (the 1/100 partsformer) but I'm sure we'd all like V2 VF-0 toys over a reissue of the subpar Yamato offerings. Look at all the clamoring for Yamato to take a third effort at the YF-19. Waiting for the next version seems a prudent decision more often then not... but you'll spend a whole lot less time actually buzzing around with your toy transformable planes.
  18. An omission that makes your characters look stupid and unbelievable isn't clever writing. Omissions that make it seem like your characters are acting without motivation or provocation isn't clever either. I agree it's not a bad movie but it isnt' particularly well written.
  19. Why do the 35Max toys come with a metal pin? The instructions show the toy being disassembled and that pin being used to pop out a couple pegs from the torso. What's going on there?
  20. Awesome article and lots of help. I think I'll try to stick with my 6950/70 card until around Xmas and then revisit this decision then and see if there have been some price drops to help me out in the meantime.
  21. I think a lot of the heft of the Beta is as much for making it balance with the overly metal Alpha. These toys needed a renewal. All plastic versions with better designs and at the same price point or less. Heck, make 'em 1/72 if they can pull it off. It's a shame.
  22. Vickers can't be a robot if for no other reason then how poorly over-acted the "Father!" line was. Jeebus... the last thing this film need was a Vader storyline. Besides, her not being a robot is the only thing that makes her jealousy of David work. Sorry I didn't put 2 and 2 together on that Med pod. I guess it does make sense now (overlooking the whole super advanced piece of machinery that can only work for one sex or another).
  23. I saw a yahoo japan auction for a 1/48 TV focker pilot... it was in a bag and looked legit.
  24. Well at least there's some 10th anniversary love for zero.
  25. I had heard rumors but the lack of cad by now had me concerned.
