I think calling the DMZ mold 'terrible' is pretty harsh. I didn't experience any razor sharpness (certainly nothing compared to the wings of Yamato's VF-19 toys). The feet are a little too wide while the armor plate above them is a little too thin. The arms also have a couple minor details which don't jive with the line art but otherwise the mold is very good. I would say that the Yamato mold is better in terms of proportions though. Then Takara went and painted on just about every detail you could want while just about every other Votoms toy maker cheaped it out and gave us cheap stickers. There's definitely room for improvement on the DMZs though. I think Yamato made a terrible mistake when they went 1/12 instead of 1/15 scale (but maybe Takara's license included a range of scales to protect their DMZ line). Yamato made an even worse mistake when they didn't bother painting on nearly any detail at all. Who buys that expensive and huge of a toy and doesn't expect it to make an eye-popping display piece?

I think this toy looks amazing... I would totally buy it but it's a little low on my priority list right now.

And very soon has arrived! Sorry DarrinG, the Yamato reviews are going to have to wait a while, I'm working on a big Macross review so I don't have enough time to dedicate to a toy as complex as the Yamato Scopedogs right now. So, I'll probably take on something a bit similar next like the joint model, Seven 1/48, dual model, or even the 1/60 offering. In the meantime, the 35Max review is up!

Kaiyodo did make some pre revoltech dogs... they may be the worst toys I've ever handled.

am I an a-hole for telling someone they bought something fake?
jenius replied to phatslappy's topic in Toys
Yes because the people making the customs were trying to make it appear as authentic as humanly possible, note the custom VF-1D above also credits Takatoku. The M&M marriage set is trying to be a 20th anniversary set so it would be a Bandai product if it was made by anyone. I wonder if any of these customs went so far as to take the Bigwest sticker off of licensed merchandise and apply it to these customs. -
That's a very nice improvement.

So Star Wars needs more Red Sonja? I wouldn't complain. She is a Marvel character after all right?

You should find a good copy of Do You Remember Love?, especially if you've never seen it before... it's the pinnacle of 80s anime in my book and always time well spent.

I think they're just showing off the engineering by the parts... still expecting perfect transformation.

2013 would be great but I'll expect 2014 and hope I'm surprised.

Someone at Bandai just hates how hard points look when you aren't using the missiles.

You're mistaking the fact that "some" photos emphasize the different shade effect. It was all a matter of lighting. I think it's very likely that Bandai will do a much better job with the renewal toys, but I wouldn't draw any conclusions from this photo because 1) you can't control the lighting, 2) it's unlikely it's a finished product manufactured like a mass release will be. Again, I think it likely will be color matched better, I just would just hold off. I don't remember people complaining about the mismatched colors on the V1 until people started opening their boxes.

The 27 was very good in fighter mode. I think, like others have speculated, this might be similar to what happened with the VF-25G and Tornado Parts. The only difference here though is Bandai was using that release as another way to get mileage out of the existing Tornado Parts and on this release they're having to come up with a whole new super parts mold and possibly some mods to the existing mold to make it Super Parts compliant. I guess I could see it going either way... maybe the renewal VF-27 will have to wait until Bandai's 35th Anniversary V3 VF-25? I would love for Bandai to do a renewal now that we know the whole renewal of VF-25 toys are coming out and we're getting another 171.

Was that just speculation? I don't think Yamato invented hard points. They may have a locking technique they patented but i'm sure there's lots of ways to handle that.

Prometheus - on Blu-Ray and DVD Oct. 9, 2012
jenius replied to Pizza the Hutt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Bashing The Great Gatsby is extremely silly. That book is well written, there's a reason we've all read it. Takes me back to senior year of high school just thinking about it... I think we spent two months on that book. On the suspension of disbelief thing, I think that's what's causing a lot of the negative reaction to Prometheus. Ignoring the 100 nitpicks article I linked to, there were two points which actually took me out of the movie upon my first watching it (and I'm sure I'll watch it again). That was the stupid biologist who fears dead bodies but loves alien snakes and Shaw running around after having an emergency c-section. Basically, the movie jumped the shark there and everything that happened after that I was like "Oh really? THIS now?" Up until it rolled credits. It's like the writer's gave up. Yes, the forced C-section and how it was filmed was pretty cool... but it shouldn't have happened to Shaw's character... it should have happened to someone who didn't spend the rest of the movie running, jumping, and doing pull-ups. Either that or it should have relied on nano-technology or some other scifi magic and extended out the time frame a bit. As it was, I spent the last 15 minutes scoffing at the film rather than enjoying it. I will echo that I found the pacing disjointed and the opening sequence had me thinking long and hard about how it couldn't be Earth but was probably supposed to be... but it wasn't enough to pull me out of the suspension of disbelief like the items above. -
It still has the collection of cameras, it just also has the outlines for the eyes in the clear panel in front (thus making sense of how it suddenly had the Kai's face... kinda).

So they've molded in aspect's of the Kai's face into the clear panel eh? It looks great, if these weren't insanely expensive I'd buy one. I would have bought a 19F at that discounted price too!

I knew Prometheus had some problems... but 100? I'll have to make some time to read through this: http://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/fictional-science-100-glaring-logical-issues-with-prometheus/?utm_source=zergnet.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=zergnet_33419 Saw it while reading Ghostbusters 3 information. -
