Well, a toy company was going to produce a new Mospeada toy, and they were going to show it at Winter Wonderfest, but then they decided not to. Soooooooooo, maybe it's back... maybe it's not. I think the announcement got bumped to Summer Wonderfest but that might be wishful thinking. Asking someone to post a picture of this is a bit demanding.

it was just a painted up 1A kit showing what you could do.

I thought about commenting on the controversial head but when I compared it to the line art it seemed spot on. I realize there's some line art out there that might differ, and there's the always shifting portrayals in the show, but what's a toy company to do? So, instead of commenting, i provided a pic showing the head in close up from both the side and front. As to a release tactic, it sounds like a complaint about the company and since the company appears to be defunct, why kick 'em when they're down? Also, I don't really get the controversy. They released the toy both as stand alone and gift-set, seems like the right way to go to me.

I said they were scuttling the company to ditch creditors. This is also known as bankruptcy. It's not immoral, illegal, or any thing else... Just unfortunate. Acadia will be a new company with no recourse to Yamato creditors.

Here's a controversial thought for you... what if Yamato really did go belly-up... and Toynami bought the mold to the V2 VF-1 toys. Mind... blown. After all, the mold is like 5 years old now and in this scenario it seems possible that Arcadia wouldn't get the SDF Macross license and it'd give Yamato a good chunk of change to pay back creditors with.

So the 17D with super parts is all sold out at HLJ huh? I just updated my post on anymoon to include the content. As most of you know, that was pretty easy since the 17D is nearly the exact same toy as the 17S. Added a few pics though: Overall, I still think it's a 'pretty good' toy... but not excellent like the 19 toys (or Bandai's V2 renewals and YF-29 toys).

It's not that creditors are stupid, it's that it's hard to argue a new company is a complete and distinct new entity when your old company shares in its assets (ie its website). It would also be hard to argue it's a new company if it exists in the exact same address, keeps the same bank accounts, contracts, etc. Creditors need to stop at Yamato and not then go to Arcadia's headquarters so Yamato needs to work hard to make sure the line between Yamato and Arcadia isn't very blurry.

I think the going theory was they were building the SDF-2 behind the SDF-1 because they were using most of the SDF-1 to build the SDF-2 (ie the major components). The SDF-1 was being left behind as a battle damaged shell and monument. You could certainly have an alien attack destroy humanity's second attempt at making a space fortress in the Robotech movie... Heck, the name Khyron is in play for a Robotech movie so you could have him launch an attack against the humans and destroy the equivalent SDF-2 at any point (no real need to wait until a reconstruction portion of the film... since the film almost certainly wouldn't extend to reconstruction.

Less than 53 but no word on cause of death? Isn't that one of the who what where when and whys?
-
Did they really announce a name change? I think that was an interpretation of the events. It's also been said Yamato has announced "an entirely new company." You can talk about other companies, you can endorse them, but you probably don't redirect your website to their website unless they're not an entirely new entity. EDIT - if not creditors? Why else? I have yet to hear a good theory on why you would throw away years of goodwill. EDIT II - I would love to be wrong... but I'm not an optimist and I am a businessman.
-
So true, If they gave the Gakken a TV accurate paint scheme with better hips, ankles, a rotation point at the waist, and new hands it would have been really cool. No chance for a Beta though and some would have complained it was out of scale with the VF-1.

I don't think Yamato owes me an explanation but I'm definitely not enough of an optimist to think Yamato just forgot about their website. I think it confirms the thought that they sunk the ship and the same parties are opening a new company. If you're trying to shake your creditors you don't give them a redirect on your website.
-
Soooooo if Yamato is being shut down due to debts, Arcadia needs to be a separate company. So, you won't get redirects and you won't get transferred licenses. Arcadia would need to purchase molds from the defunct Yamato if it wants to make formerly Yamato toys. If that's true, Bandai DX 1/60 VF-1 here we come. Did you get your preorder in? EDIT - As i've said elsewhere, Arcadia will probably be able to get whatever licenses Bandai doesn't want, so they'll get Mac7 and Mac0. So maybe Arcadia will buy the molds related to these franchises from Yamato and reissue those toys. SDF Macross? I think they'd have to pay more than Bandai is willing to pay... and I heard Bandai is liking the VF-1 these days (and their 1/72 model means they're very intimately familiar with it).
-
So... anyone starting to come around to the conspiracy?
-
But since that's not going to happen, why not have some fun with it? Some of that is a little too Macross and not enough Macross Saga (Robotech). Like item 10, in Robotech that didn't happen. In Robotech, things are more clunky but the gyst of it is that Exedore tells Gloval that the Masters will pursue humanity so Gloval says "F it, I have surprise on my side, I'm going to gather a human force combined with some of our Zentraedi comrades and go to the Masters home world and let them be the ones to experience the collateral damage." Then Gloval and the SDF-2 get destroyed by Khyron so they create an SDF-3 in orbit and I think Rick is or Lisa is made the captain of it. Here's another bold prediction for you: Gloval will be replaced by Admiral Jackson and he'll be played by none other than a cigar smoking Samuel L Jackson.

I think you might have this turned a bit. BigWest has the rights and they've licensed them to Bandai. Since Bandai sponsored MF it's likely those rights are Bandai's for as long as they want them but I don't know that they'd ever become Bandai's to sale. I would assume at some point Bandai starts having to pay BW for them and at that point Bandai might say "Nah, we're done with these."

Bandai will definitely give up the Macross F license... some day. Probably after the next Macross show comes along and is a hit (like we saw with the Mac7 license).

Orguss hair and James Cameron's Avatar hair

I think Orguss is awesome but the mechanical designs of Mospeada are easily better. -
hmmmm if not that then what should this thread be for? News?? Ha!

They should totally handle it like Yamato... But a Yamato that stays in business...

Just because it's called "Robotech" there's no reason to make the technology what the aliens are after. In fact, the term Robotech is so 80s sounding that I think a feature film should downplay it. They could throw in a scene where the Dr. Lang-type character is explaining to another character something along these lines: "We call the suite of technologies derived from alien craft one 'Robotech.' These technologies range from the construction methods of ultra durable, light-weight metal alloys to brain-scanning technologies that allow man and machine to sync telepathically." I think it'd be kind of silly for the Masters to be after the technology in general on one of their escaped ships. I think you have to keep it a specific technology. It could be Protoculture-esque in the form of a unique power source. I think this is probably a good bet because it gives the Hollywood types a chance to harp on the abuse of resources. Obviously anything's possible but I guess Protoculture gets renamed slightly to sound less like 'first culture' and gets honed into an unlimited power source. It'd be easy to establish this early too by having the human ship fire its main gun a few times in a battle then do an FTL jump "Only a ship using Zor's power source could use so much energy in one fight! Now we have to figure out a way of taking the ship without destroying it but after that last battle the humans seem reckless enough to destroy their own ship in a fight. What do we do? Let's watch them for a bit. Hey, they look just like our leader class. You know what, I'm going to go on board and check them out first hand. Whoa, when I look at this lady I get an inappropriate tingle. You know, I like this tingle." yada yada yada

Orguss hair and James Cameron's Avatar hair

It's a joke. Keith coming out of the wood work with his "of course" when the truth is that no one thinks of Orguss.... ever. -
Obviously BW isn't giving up anything... hence my list of guesses that tweaked everything enough to make it BW-proof. I've been trying to figure out lately how WWIII would play out to open the film. It's a footnote in the RT universe and I'm starting to think it'd have to be yanked from the storyline also after that Red Dawn remake fiasco where the bad guys couldn't be Chinese because China is too good a market for studios. Here's how I'd start the film: Submarine fight! We see a US Submarine fire two torpedos, one strikes a non-descript enemy submarine sinking it the other continues on and blasts into an underwater cliff revealing something shiny underneath. Turns out there's an alien vessel off the coast of some remote location. When did it splash down? It seems failry recent, like 50 to 100 years ago. Next scene there are divers on board the alien craft. How'd they get in? Who cares. Inside there are dead aliens (soldier and leader class) and some mind boggling tech. Alternate opening: 20 years into the future man has caravans to the moon and Mars where we have people living. Suddenly, something crashes into Mars. Over the next 10 years this secret is kept from Earth while the information derived from the alien vessel, and major chunks of the vessel itself, are brought to Earth. Humanity uses this technology to create their own space ship (derived from the crashed ship, complete with FTL). As a test run the ship does an FTL hop to Mars but over shoots it. The aliens detect the space fold and assume it's Zor's fortress and arrive en masse but when they get here it's clearly not Zor's fortress and we resemble their master class too much to attack us. Then they fall in love with us, we schtoop their women, and they die of self-loathing.

The computer and electronics super geek thread
jenius replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hmm, I'm kinda dense when it comes to this stuff but I had removed the receiver from the equation so I was left with less that could be going wrong. At this point, I think I'm ready to give up and just buy a smart Blu-ray player and trash the old computer in the living room. I hooked my laptop up (which has an HDMI out) to the receiver to the TV and everything worked fine. As I recall, when my computer was hooked up to the old receiver it showed the receiver as the second monitor. I think this is why that old receiver worked. Once I turn on the TV with my new receiver it pipes everything straight through leaving my computer showing the TV as the second monitor and it's pretty clear they don't get along. The set-up goes through a DVI to HDMI wire and I think there's something just ghetto enough about all this where my TV wants nothing to do with it. I suppose another option would be to find a video card (I'm using a 9400GT) with an HDMI out and see if getting rid of that conversion makes things jive.
