    No... No... I don't know that I'd argue it was worse but it wasn't better. The fact the Zor were using humans made Southern Cross more coherent.

    I don't know, the costs of acquiring the molds might not have been very high. The molds were well-used by that point. Yamato would have depreciated them quite a bit. I do think the licensing part is probably a big part of it. The license was non-transferable so Arcadia had to acquire the license from BigWest. There would have been a lot of goodwill from BW toward Yamato but BW wouldn't just give the license away and if a third party showed interest in the license then the price could have gone up quite a bit from what Yamato paid to what Arcadia paid. There's also lots of economy of scale stuff to consider. Arcadia doesn't have a large number of products so the denominator of the overhead cost function is smaller per product. Arcadia also wouldn't receive any preferential treatment that an established company with any volume would receive from creditors or suppliers. I also do reject the starting price. I don't think you can use a company that went out of business as a barometer. We know they didn't go out of business because they were sick of Macross. Presumably they went out of business because cash in was less than cash out. If cash in was insufficient than it's not crass to suggest that perhaps Yamato wasn't pricing well. The downside to all of this would almost certainly be far fewer Arcadia VF-1 variants. They know higher prices will reduce sales volumes so they're going to have to stick to the heroes. We also don't know if they could afford to lock down the SDF Macross license for long with whatever start-up funds they had. Hopefully we get some news soon on other releases.

    If people are upset about not being able to get the T-Rex parts (and I'm sure they will be) that should be mitigated by knowing that T-Rex isn't the one who decided how many to make. Wonderfest grants licenses to garage kit builders so they can sell an extremely limited number of officially licensed products. I think that number is capped at 20 (but I could definitely be wrong there). T-Rex can only sell as many as their very temporary and exclusive WF license will allow. I would disagree on the 19EF. Historically the sales of these toys have gone hand-in-hand with how heroic the character was. The 19EF has almost no existing fan base where Isamu was the lead of an OVA. True, there was an existing toy, but it hadn't aged well and just about everyone who could afford to upgrade did and the toy doesn't appear destined for bargain bins so it's probably considered a success.

    Sadly I have not. I was moving so my friend in Japan has been holding onto it for me. I will probably ask him to ship me a package after the dx renewal tornado parts are released.

    I would say the Arcadia is looking a little too VF-1J Max blue and could use a little more gray. I would also add that in my experience, using a macro lens under high light tends to make colors much more vibrant so I'm going with the "Let's wait and see" camp. I'm also not going to be too much of a stickler, i think we could argue that Yamato always made Max's VF-1J too dark of a blue and Milia's too crimson but that they also look better that way.

    There's a set of three custom Yammy dogs on eBay right now. They look like pretty high quality customs with a commensurate price.

    Not colored correctly? I haven't seen them in person but the color looks pretty good in that pic above.

    But bad lighting would. You know they have to release the wrong color first so they can give us the right color a year from now. That's mac0 tradition.

    This is why I always tell people that their toys need to be kept in a vacuum. It's the only way to be safe! It also reduces yellowing from oxidation.

    I can't make heads or tails out of what that 'mecha' is. It has a giant proboscis, I'll give it that. If I had infinite time I'd make a drawing of the battloid mode and I know just where that proboscis would end up. It's not often mech designers look at the AGAC from Southern Cross and think "It's just not busy enough." Edit - I'm not trying to say this is an AGAC knock-off, I'm just trying to say that's a busy design.

    Kicking a dead thread but I just watched this and thought it was awful. I wasn't familiar with the source material and I hoped that would help but man... not good. Then I read the original story (which I think would have pretty limited appeal to Western audiences) and it made me like the movie even less. Oh well, better luck next movie.
