You can tell the different version 1 toys really easily, the early ones require you to pull parts out of the arm to store the gun.

I was told the mold would be too expensive though the door was left open for 'maybe some day.'

Oh yeah, I've watched Robotech The Movie... it's awful.

When I wrote about the failure of Academy someone wrote me in regards to The Masters arc and said that HG had uncontested right to Southern Cross. HG just knows people aren't very fond of that series so they don't cater to it.

The 1/60 V2 definitely diminished the love affair with the 1/48 though there's usually somewhere out there looking to buy a 1/48 still. All things considered, they've held their value from MSRP very well. If you remember a time though when 1/48s demanded premiums over MSRP, for the most part that's gone.

Yeah, I'm sure the word "Macross" pops up in both the original show and the Robotech adaptation. In a new movie they almost certainly would not use the word "Macross" which may seem counter-intuitive due to the trademark HG has but that relates to defense of their rights to the footage of the original series and doesn't denote rights to the IP. There are lots of other things that would be off limits from the original "Macross Saga". There'd be no Roy Focker/Fokker, Minmay, the term "Zentraedi", and they'd probably have to ditch the major theme of Macross where an idol's song basically saves humanity as that doesn't quite sound generic to me. So... I think what you're left with is Battlefield Earth with transforming fighter jets. Since so much of the Macross Saga overlaps with Macross, what we'd likely get is some amalgamation of the entire series in one movie. HG can use the Invid and the Zor/Robotech Masters, and they can use the characters from those arcs, so maybe Rick Hunter and his best friend Scott Bernard will team up to fight the Masters invasion of earth with the help of Zor, a runaway Masters scientist and the new super spaceship he has developed.

It won't be pre-order panic if they go mass release.

Still in a holding pattern waiting for more info. My guesses are 3/2016 (or never), 7000 Yen MSRP, normal Japanese retailers except for some stuff that will be Tamashii exclusive.

There's a big licensing thread about it, and plenty of Robotech fan denial, but I think the way things sorted out is that Harmony Gold has the right to do whatever they want with the SDF Macross FOOTAGE (by way of Tatsunoko) and the right to merchandise based on that footage (including comics and video games as well as toys, apparel, etc.,They don't have any rights to the designs or characters. There are lots of unique elements of Robotech that were created by way of the adaptation, for example, Rick Hunter is not a character in SDF Macross though he may share a lot of similarities to HIkaru Ichijo. So Rick Hunter could certainly show up in Robotech the Movie but Hikaru Ichijo obviously wouldn't. In Macross "Protoculture" isn't a fuel macguffin so Robotech the movie can have Protoculture fuel (though one hopes they'd change the name to something that wasn't obviously lifted and seemed nonsensical for a fuel). That's why the folks at Harmony Gold are always careful to say "We have the rights to everything Robotech", because they do have the rights to anything that is UNIQUE in the Robotech story... they don't have the rights to everything MACROSS. There are lots of elements in both Robotech and Macross that would fall under "generic scifi" tropes so those too could be used. You could probably have giant aliens, transforming vehicles, etc without any issue provided they weren't identical to the ones in Macross or have identical names if those names are specific (so you probably wouldn't have an Exedore or Breetai). The generic field is one where the producers would want to err on the side of caution as to not invite a lawsuit by BigWest. At the end of the day, not being able to do Macross really shouldn't be that big a deal. They can still tell a story about a retrofitted alien ship fighting to save Earth with transformable fighter planes... it's just a lot of names will change and none of the vehicles will look like they did in the show but as others have mentioned, Transformers already showed us that our childhood isn't going to the big screen, it will be something else.

Started shipping them only 4 months late huh? Toynami is really improving. They seemed really pricey for static figures so I passed.

I thought it was 4/30.

My predictions: 1) The VF-30 will be in the new show 2) The big change from the YF-30 to the VF-30 will be that on the VF-30 the tailfins will fold up and that the central missile bay will be a tiny bit different. This will let Bandai use the mold for some milkin'.

I thought there were brownies (if not just accents) and then a gray VF-0A with a white stripe that was Shin's. Then Kawamori said the brownies are a contrivance because in reality everyone would fly one that looks like the 'unknown soldier' release, including Shin. Then someone reminded Kawamori the reason there are different paint schemes is to sell more toys so he said "Oh yeah, then Shin was gray with a white stripe and the CFs had brown accents." So yes, Shin has a unique VF-0A but if you were talking about "stats" it'd be the same as all the other VF-0A valks. Roy has his VF-0S which is a unique bird in both head and paint scheme.

Why would this still be a kickstarter thing? Seems started at this point.

All pics are taken under fairly bright lights, that's why the other valks are shown there for reference. Those three toys were standing right next to each and taken in one shot, no individual adjustments to any toy.

Thanks Gakken! The web review will be going up later tonight after I get my little guy to bed.
