Sadly I haven't gotten to it. I think they're 1\24 scale and they were sold in two variants. I need to get a second one so my review video can contain a duel.

Can you be more specific? What toys do you think are the wrong size? I'm happy to validate. I have been getting better at doing this as part of my review process but there are plenty I haven't gotten to yet. Here's an example: http://anymoon.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Arcadia-YF-19-23.jpg

Yamato did it first.

Awesome, your site is an amazing reference.

They are 1/60 scale with exception of the monster because math, regardless of it not being specified on the box.

I got my box but haven't even had a chance to open them yet... probably won't until after the holidays.

I dunno, it's a 5 year old toy now and it did pretty poorly upon release before becoming a holy grail item. With Arcadia doing a brand new Garland I would think that if they go back to the Patlabor well they'd do it with a new version. I still would love to see Arcadia make a 1/24 universe and give us some 1/24 Votoms toys too...

Remember that the HM line failed the first time around because competition was abundant. The HMs sold, a bit, but most people were like "I could spend $10 more and get a Yamato V2 so.... I'll do that." It's obviously very different today. I'm curious to see how far they'll go with the line and I don't think Miria is super high on their to-do list, but we know she's at least on their list and that the HMRs seem to be off to a good start from a sales perspective.

I was a huge proponent of a 1/72 scale of toys for a long time but like you said, Yamato's allegiance to 1/60 and then Bandai's using that scale for their Frontier toys pretty much ruled it out. What I liked about 1/72 is it made more of the universe available in toy form while still allowing all the gimmicks of the 1/60 toys though that meant 1/72 toys would probably cost just about the same as 1/60 toys. If someone were to do 1/72 toys now they'd almost certainly be much MORE than most the 1/60 toys we purchased or waited to go on sale so that would heighten the laments about the price of smaller toys. In that regard, though it doesn't do anything to unite the modeling and toy universes, the HMR line makes a lot of sense to me. Take out some frills, shrink the toys to make more of the universe plausible, and since they're smaller with fewer frills, they can be priced well below 1/60 toys to help reduce the comparisons/complaints. Maybe Arcadia can go that route 5 years from now when Bandai grows tired of Macross again. Yes, but they abandoned the scale quickly because, at the time, 1/72 was too small for a decent VF-1 toy... and even then we got the V1 1/60s <shudder>

They wouldn't bother doing a sneaky move to 1/55 because they don't advertise the scale on the DX toys. It just so happens they're 1/60 toys but in reality 1/60 covers a range of scales from 1/55 to 1/65. So, at the end of the day, they'd just say DX and if it ran a little bigger than the Yamato toys it wouldn't be so much bigger that people the vast majority of people would care.

If I had to bet, I think this and the 1/1800 SDF-1 will never see the light of day. I wouldn't be surprised though if it goes like the Yamato 1/2000 SDF-1 where they say "That's just too damn much toy" and then make smaller toys with slightly less frills. Maybe that's just wishful thinking that we'll get a 1/60 DX VF-1 though instead of this 1/35 beast... though getting both would certainly be wonderful.

I'd hit it.

I believe there is no possibility of a gift set, I think it's either a typo or, more likely, that's the release date. Maybe some other surprise is in store for 2016.

Maybe invert the red and black on the Hikaru 30th anniversary.

There's a Hik VF-1S HMR on Mandarake right now... https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1034747609&ref=list

I would vote the first one with jolly Roger.

My guess is that they are trying to determine if the failures on the 0A could be solved in the manufacture process or by doing a quick test while building rather than changing a part. Put the ball in the socket, screw, is there a gap? Put it aside, it's no good, try the next one.

Oh, that's a little tougher. The GBP kept popping up randomly after release. I think you're firmly in Murphy's Law territory. If you choose to wait, it will only become more scarce. If you buy one in desperation at a mark-up, Bandai will then release a lot more to retailers.
-
They didn't want to show the picture of the misprinted tampo intakes on legs not attached to the toys...
-
You talking about Roy? I think I'd start to panic at this point as it seems like preorders of a 'normal' release should have gone up yesterday. I'm sure he was like "Looks good, you should add an integrated heat shield and landing gear" and they were like "We want this to retail for like 7,000 Yen before optional parts" and he was like "Cool, but you should make the nosecone removable so the GBP doesn't look wonky."
-
I don't think I've been arguing better, just different, and I think I'm pretty consistent on that. Not sure why it matters though, it's the HMR thread and the toys are being discussed.

I was hoping since we already preordered the April release that would make May tonight... does that mean the Glaug will be New Year's night? If so, having an infant at home may actually give me a leg up on something...
