Macross Δ (Delta) Mecha/Technology Thread - READ 1st POST
jenius replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Sigh, it's like you guys think Delta exists in one episode. It will be a series in which it will need an over arching plot. I've said it's going to be hard to create a plot with tech as advanced as it is and not find lots of inconsistencies. The response 'I don't think that happened yet' is fine... but it doesn't mean it won't. Edit - I think Mr March is right on if Delta plays more of a 'fun' or silly tone then there will be no problem because you shouldn't over think shows that don't take themselves very serious. -

I could have sworn Hayate piloted a glorified forklift, maybe I'll have to watch the episode again. I mean, sure, freight trains exist... but so do automated warehouses... TODAY. That's without 60 years of overtech. You would think tech similar to what the boomerangs use could be used in larger, stronger, vehicles for a million other purposes. Maybe it's too cutting edge, maybe it's too expensive, I get that we can come up with reasons to not be bothered by it. Generally though the amount of capital expended is related to the cost of labor. Are people so plentiful in the future that companies willingly substitute capital expenditure for cheap labor or, do you think in a future of massive cloning and post apocalypse there'd be huge investment in capital to make up for a shortfall of common workers? As far as batteries go, I think that's only relevant if we're saying that the boomerangs should always be the source of shields and such. You'd think something like a ship would have something more permanently affixed. Think how amazing a few much larger boomerangs could be at doing a variety of things. Also, doesn't it even feel silly to be asking about batteries? You'd think with everything else going on they must have figured out some pretty amazing ways to store energy. My intention was never to upset Seto by questioning Delta. My point was actually future-looking though I gave a couple examples of how the show may already open itself to some eyebrow raising. Delta is now WAY in the future and obviously there's a lot of integration of very fantastic tech happening so the writers are going to have a challenge writing a story that won't fall apart when viewers ponder why some of this amazing tech wasn't used in different ways. I'm curious to see if the writers can avoid the pitfall. -

Yeah, we get it, you've rationalized it and you're happy with your rationalizations. I'm happy to wait and see how it all holds up. -

Doth protest too much about protestations. You like it, great, it's one episode, we all shall see. It seems awfully convenient to say only people with the need of the plot will have the tech as the plot dictates. -
Any info on release? I'd love to give these to my buddy who has an arcade.

Macross Δ (Delta) Mecha/Technology Thread - READ 1st POST

I think someone made a pretty good point earlier that it's not that the technology being shown is too crazy for Macross (though I'd say that I hope future episodes of Delta help take a bit of the crazy out of what was shown) but issues with the logic that if the technologies we see exist, then why isn't everything way better off? If you can make boomerangs that shield things then it seems you could builds shields around everything that's important. Why would Hayate pilot a loader instead of just floating apples to where they go by pointing a finger at their crates? Delta is playing an odd game of "It's similar to life as we know it" and "future tech makes anything possible." These notions need to be married for it not to seem like magical girl genre anime. I think it's going to be a very hard game for the writers to play if they're going to show us all tech after tech that makes us almost suspend our disbelief but then try to make the struggles of the characters seem relatable to the problems we face today because any momentary pause will allow the viewer to think "Why don't they just use that technology to..." -
I think in a Macross universe where capital ships can surf and ladies can ride valkyries and do numerous crazy things, a transformable Monster makes a lot of sense (in regard to the Koenig). So I won't salt the Koenig though prior to its existence I loved the pure stomp 'em bash 'em monsterness of the Monster. i love SDF Macross more than all the sequels because it felt like a tangible extension of today whereas the sequels, as they should, are extensions from SDF Macross. I hope the HMR line continues to indulge my SDF Macross fetish but that wouldn't stop me from supporting more Koenigs or other toys. I still would love a MF DX UN Spacy anti aircraft Koenig.

If they did, I hope they redo the arms and tampo the snot out of it.

One episode probably doesn't qualify as enough 'growing' for many folks.

First I used a Yeti replacement but the leg was very loose so then I cleaned up the ball that came on the toy and reinstalled it hoping the problem was more about the paint of the housing adhering to the ball rather than the size of the ball. It seemed to work great immediately following the operation, it felt exactly like the other side. I have no idea what changed since then but tonight it was obvious, I really need a smaller ball for a fix to hold (maybe it's just a lot hotter so the ball expanded a micron?). Now I really gotta track down those Yeti-balls but I have no idea where they would be.

So after a month of being sick, being busy with school, having guests living with me, I finally had two hours to finish my VF-0A/VF-0S transformation guide. It was supposed to be a slam dunk. I touched my VF-0A toy and that leg I repaired fell right off. God I hate this miserable toy. Sadly, I couldn't find my Yeti replacements either since during my month off I moved offices and must have put them somewhere stupid. Oh well, transformed the toy back to fighter mode and put it in its box where it will stay until I find my little Yeti balls.
-
The biggest issue with them is what to do with the strap in fighter mode but I always found a way to tuck them so it wasn't a problem. The rings at the ends are metal so there shouldn't be a problem with them breaking. Some day we'll have a 1/35 version (maybe) with retractable gun strap (doubtful)!

That is very curious logic. I mean, from the sellers perspective I guess it works. Considering no buyers have purchased it and handled it, there seems to be plenty of room for the consensus judgement that this thing may be over-priced trash.

I'd say seeing this, like most comedies, really benefits from a theater viewing, lots of chuckles seemed contagious. -

Lol... until June. Like that's gonna happen. You would do better avoiding the thread. -

Saw it with the wife last night. I went into it expecting to hate it as everything I'd seen made me think it was perfect for 13 year old boys but I'm well past that. I'm also not a Ryan Reynolds fan. Fortunately, I was very pleasantly surprised. I think the lower budget was a huge benefit as it didn't get bogged down trying to include too many people or do too much. I had a couple nitpicks and my wife had a couple different nitpicks. My wife thought: -
It shows the counterweight and it looks like it has the same problem as the Koenigs in that it won't extend far enough back and away from the toy.
-
Yeah, the 29B didn't seem to sell particularly well. While I wouldn't be shocked if they did, I do think that if they were going to we'd already know about it.
-
Yeah, I'd take it more as a "Look at all the things we could do!" than "These toys are planned on being released!". I'd guess a lot of this hinges on the success of Delta. If Delta lights a fire, there's a chance we'll see all this cool stuff. If Delta flops, most of this stuff becomes vaporware.

I preordered everything available... looking forward to checking them out.
