Ready Player One, in theaters March 30, 2018
Dobber replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Wasn’t pandering at all. The creator of the Oasis was a child of the 80’s. Like most people he has a connection and a fondness for the era he grew up in, so he created an environment that used the things from his childhood. When he created the “hunt” contest his interests became an obsession for pretty much everyone because clues to finding the egg and winning the contest could only be found and solved if you were WELL versed in 80’s pop-culture and really all “nerd” culture. It’s a great book. Chris- 98 replies

That’s during the scene when Hikaru slaps Minmey because she’s reluctant to preform. Kakizaki is already gone at that point. This one gets destroyed just after that still too. I agree that it is still just skull squadron logo that would’ve been Kakizaki’s I do like the Green arrow-head logo though. Surprised that we’ve never seen that included on decal or sticker sheets as it is the only cannon alternate logo shown in Macross. Chris

Congrats Derex! You both look great. Enjoy married life. Best 19 years of my life so far. Even with all the ups and downs I wouldn’t trade them. Chris

Nope, check again. The heat shield can’t raise UP on the Yamato version like what is shown on Arcadia’s CAD. Yamato’s only folds down for bathroom mode. Yes the fan details are there but again the heat shield can’t lift up to reveal that in fighter on the Yamato version. Chris

One difference I can see is how the VTOL panel can open on this. I don’t recall the Yamato version being able to do that. Chris

I used Testors MM paints. The only joints that tended to rub a bit where the wing root joints. Other than that it seemed to hold up pretty well. I sold it to a member here several years ago so I’m not sure how it looks now. General transformations didn’t seem to be a problem though. Chris

I displayed my custom that way. It saved a lot of space and I thought it looked cool too. I did display it with the wings deployed too and had no issues with it for years. Like someone else said. The fix that was suggested at the time was to just use a dab of super glue on the wing joins and immediately “work it in” by moving the joint so the glue won’t bond the parts together. It made nice stiff wings that could still collapse when wanted.

I would love to get one of these, but the Bandai pre-order madness is just insane. It is so hard to get their products...even at the high prices. I don’t understand it, especially since they are a large company but when it comes to the much smaller Arcadia you still have at least a few day window to get an order in. Bandai it seems to be “blink and you miss it” made even worse if you are in the EST. This was one of the main reasons I stopped collecting for a long while, it just became too frustrating. F’ing scalpers. Chris

Man...HMR launch arm display stands would be sweet. Chris

Really want the VT...but I think I’m done with the 2SS’s. I agree that Bandai did what they could with the design but it is far too fidgety. Unless the somehow update it and get it to lock together better in fighter. Chris

Pretty much sums up my feelings as well. Chris

Thanks for the heads up slide. Grabbed a VE-1! Chris

Decided to go with AmiAmi for my Super 1A. I wish I could still use HLJ but I absolutely HATE their new payment system requiring a payment contract to use PayPal. There is no versatility with them anymore. Chris

The huge push for automation, in all aspects of life, is frightening and a bit confusing. With all the talk about creating jobs and reducing unemployment, people still want to push for automation which just eliminates jobs. If everything is automated what is everyone supposed to do? This isn’t the world of Wall-E. Chris

Mine arrived today as well. Pretty much agree with all sentiments here. Looks great, but is very finicky....especially in fighter mode....which unfortunately is my preferred mode. The arms are the biggest pain in the A** in fighter mode and the hands are very hard to swivel on my copy and keep popping off of their ball joints. I don’t expect much playability with fighter mode. It’s also a shame they made the knee area so large as it makes the engine nacelles very bulbous in fighter mode. The VF-1 is still king in toy form, but as Lolicon said this design is pretty out there. Looks great on paper or a dedicate 1 form model/toy, but making it transformable makes it very messy. Like was already said, it’s too bad they couldn’t find a way to look it together better. Chris

Yeah, I signed up a couple weeks ago too. I’m really liking the Dub. The actors don’t sound like children or the standard 80’s voice actors that all sounded similar...Voltron, Robotech, ect. Hopefully when the series is finished it will be availble as a digital purchase that won’t require the monthly subscription to view. Either way, it’s been great watching it in English. I own all the Japanese Blu-Ray’s and while I did enjoy it immensely, it is nice to just enjoy the splendid animation without having to read to follow along. I agree with Dynaman, hopefully increased sales will prompt them to get 2202. Reading the comments after each episode people, who never heard of it or new about it as a remake, seem to be really liking it. Hopefully news of it will spread. Chris
