So you want to compare records eh? You "yawn" at engaging targets at range. Well, which aircraft has the higher friendly fire instances? The EAGLE. Your precious Eagle also tries to engage at a distance, otherwise they would've been close enough to visually confirm Friend or foe and prevent those tragic accidents. Capt. America said it best the Tomcat would distinguish targets better, faster, and farther away. Hate to break it to you but pilots WANT to engage from a distance so they have a higher probability of seeing their families again. You also say the Tomcat is much older than the Eagle. Personally I don't think they are that far apart but if you want to believe that, that's fine. So your "newer" fighter is constantly being compaired to an inferior aircraft. Here I thought Newer would meen better. The Eagle does NOT out perform the Tomcat out right. Nor does the Tomcat out perform the Eagle out right! You said it yourself, the Eagle was designed to climb up and catch mig-25's. The Tomcat was designed for Fleet Defense. Take those two variables away and you have a pretty even matching...between a "newer" fighter and an "older" fighter! Chris P.S. The Friendly fire reference is not meant to show a flaw in the Eagle or anybody for that matter. It is meant to show that Fighters want to engage at a Distance.

I figured F-8's were old but I brought them up anyway because one is shown in the movie as a recon bird. Wasn't sure of its payload though. Chris

We've been talking about how the Nimitz's Airwing would fair against the Japanese task force airwing. I want to know how you all think the Nimitz and its Airwing would fair against the Task-Force itself. Did the Navy at the time (late 70's early 80's) have good anti-ship capability. I know the ship had A-6's, A-7's, and F-86's but I'm not sure of their anti-ship capabilities. Would they just Dumb-Bomb the fleet from altitude? Chris

I've always found the movie to be Awesome!! Even as a kid. Then again I've always been a fan of Naval Aviation and the Navy in general. Most of the movie is the Nimitz trying to figure out what the hell happened to them and once the think they are back in 1941 they still are not sure if it is just some ellaborate prank to see how they would respond ala Martin Seans Character. Bottom line I think you'll like it now that your tastes have matured a little (Being able to take more story) Chris I love the scenes when the Tomcats first do the Fly by of the yacht and then especially after the Zero's shot the Sh*t out of it. They come streaking in Like 2 pissed off Guirdian Angels.

Actually there was a dog fight in the movie the Tomcats "played' with the Zero's before shooting one down with a sidewinder the other with the gun. It's not available yet at Amazon. The 2 different DVD versions come out on March 30th. both have direct transfers of the movie to anamorphic widescreen! One is a 1 disc version the other is a 2 disc version with more extras including an interview with the Jolly Rogers Squadron! Pretty Cool!!! Chris

David, do you know why the F-14D's had the wing Glove Vane removed? Never understood why. F-15 suck TOMCATS rule. I love how they showed the Tomcat showing up the Eagle in the Fly-off for the Iranians! Chris

I can't let this topic be finished with someone saying ID4 was a good example of a great movie. To me that movie personified what is wrong with most Sci-fi.....(too light hearted) Next, I believe Mary Mcdonal (spelling) was in ID4. since you say it had great actors. Personally I loved the New Battlestar, I loved the old one too. Too many people are caught up in the old that they can't look at this one objectively. I read somewhere else in this post that someone said that the new show had every Sci-Fi cliche'......Huh.....I thought it was lacking most of the cliche's...( FORCED comedy that most sci-fi seems to have, Too much techno babble, and too much emphasis on effects instead of story. Look what happened to Star Wars) Don't get me wrong the show too me still had some flaws, i.e. Colonal Ty wasnt that great and the President's character was a little annoying, but I think she was supposed to be In my opinion I thought the show was great, and dare I say it....I liked the new Starbuck P.S. I'd agree that it was similar to SAAB but too me the one thing I didn't like about SAAB was that they were trying too hard with all the Military stuff and yet they didn't require Haircutts untill much later in the show!! David and Coota0 are correct, I'm an Air Traffic Controller. Navy, Marine, and Air Force I have their squadron OPS assign them the callsign for that particular flight (usually from a set they normally use.)Coota0 is corect also, according to the FAA 7110.65 (the controller bible) Numbers are to be pronounced separately. It keeps it more clear. HOWEVER, airline and air taxis can have their flight numbers condenced such as US Air 1038 (ten thirty eight). Also, civilian aircraft can have the numbers reduced to the last 3 numbers after intial call-up, N12345 can be called N(november)345 or aircraft type (cessna) 345. We cannot condence Military callsigns though. Chris

Hey WM, I am a huge fan of your models and have learned much from your step by steps. This is in no way a critisism but just a suggestion. I once read an article in Fine Scale Modeler about how to ad more realism to aircraft by filing the very bottom of the tires flat and then either heating or "constructing" a slight bulge to give the apperance of weight to the aircraft. Since alot of your models are built with their gear down and since I have never seen anyone able to give their models as much realism as you do, just thought I'd suggest. Chris

The leg attachments are there. you can see them in the first episode when the Vf-0 flies past Shin on the beach. I've been wondering about that also but then just figured it was just how the Zero is, unlike the Vf-1 Chris

I heard a rumor that Bandai will release Yukikaze in the U.S. once it is completed. Does anyone know if this is true? I also heard that the last few episodes of Yukikaze will start to explain things better and will stop being so criptic! Chris
