Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
MechTech replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Things are looking up on this. I LOVE the wepons selection and the hardpoints on the wings. Painitng something that can transform is an issue. I painted the original transforming Fokker decades ago and did not paint it overall, but left it the neutral white. Problems that STILL pop up are yellowing, especially on glue joints and scuffed decals - despite a clear cotaing. I'm throwing around using Solo plastic plates and cups plastic strips for the "paint". Try to scrape that off! Yes, it will be slightly raised, but it won't scrape off. Then there's that yellowing along the seems again... - MT -
That looks great! Please let us know when you're ready for sales and what price you're asking. I'm contemplating it. My 1/32nd figure would look cool against this! - MT

Thanks for adding this thread and updating the photos Yeti! 1/350th scale almost means an obligatory purchase for me! This model looks great and is a must have! Count me in and you PM'ed! - MT

Great scratch build UN Marine! Wrong movie/series, but makes me want to yell out, "get to the choppa!" You'd need some SERIOUS muscles just to lift that puppy - unloaded! - MT

I think that would be an easy ktibash with minmal scratchbuilding for any scale. There were some awesomeand RARE builds on there too. Who's Catseye was that in the background? - MT

You must be a project manger as a career Kyekye! Looks like you got everything figured out and ready to go. I think it will turn out great and will be worth the effort, especially the lighting effects. - MT

My wife said that's her job! Just don't use automotive polishing compounds. They can be petroleum based, can melt or crack the plastic, and may have wax in them making painting impossible. I'm gonna try my wife's shirt with her in it next... - MT

Thanks for the info Jefuemon! I take it these are posable models versus toys? It's kinda hard to tell. - MT

Funny enough, if the part is small, I just use my jean pants leg (while being worn). It's got a "soft" backing and the denim gives it a good shine! - MT

1/24th scale Le Manns body? Nice old school build Jefuemon. It's coming along great. - MT

That's looking good! I'm also glad to see the bad guys getting some love. I always loved Mospeada and it's great to see you working on this! - MT

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
MechTech replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
I'm hoping the test shots look better! The nose gear looks like it's been soaking in alum and the fast packs are too far back as said before. It still has that aneroxia supermodel look to it. I think some guys are staying up too late working on this trying to cram it in. Late at night everything looks good! They need to stand back and take a good look and then read our forum for help - MT -
That turned out gorgeous! Nice details all the way around. I think even if you were clueless to what Macross is, you still think this was really cool! It looks like this turned out to be a MW group effort too. I like the lighting too. GREAT execuation all the way around! - MT

That's a great diorama! Too bad all the posters had to mess it up with their filthy comments. They gotta be how old!? - MT

Restoring whites on sun damaged yellowed Yamato VF-1
MechTech replied to plastik's topic in The Workshop!
Ha ha ha!!! I'll have to try that tinting tip. I've used all kinds of paints and they all yellow. Plastics for -collectors toys- (versus kids toys) should have a UV blocker added to them. That costs more money and when cheaper plastics are used, that's what happens. Unlike food which has labels on it with ingredients; plastics don't have it so you can't tell unless you work for the company. - MT -
Looks great Berttt! The mud effects are VERY realistic! - MT

Restoring whites on sun damaged yellowed Yamato VF-1
MechTech replied to plastik's topic in The Workshop!
Like EXO said, its an old conversation. The peroxide cleans off the top layer and leaves it easier to yellow. It's the plastic composition itself that controls the yellowing. Even people putting them in boxes complain of yellowing. Sorry man, can't outrun age! - MT -
Great job Kyekye! Looks great! Yeti, the Galant and Bug Eye are cool! The Galant would be awesome in Airsoft! I'm definitely going to have to get a Bug Eye! Please keep us posted on the build. Looks like a Bug eye is next in my livery! - MT
