@peter That's TOOOoooo funny! Too true too! @wm cheng Your Eagle is looking awesome! Too bad about having to redo it, but sometimes its just worth knowing that you went that extra mile! I'll have to mess with colored pencils! @electric indigo The details look great on that figure! The cast parts and finish on them is a nice touch! I actually got a bit of modelling done this weekend! Irony is using an actual exploded shell fuse to hold down a model exploded artillery piece. It was handy and worked perfect. Both the glue and glued sand mixture are drying now. Most of the turret parts and hull parts are now glued together. I forgot how easy it us to just glue together a model without having to make the pieces. - funny! This is a GREAT kit! The parts fit is great and it came with brass antenna mounts and a brass muzzle brake. There are a bunch of clear parts and photo-etch too. I'm going to have to fix the end of the barrel. It has indents in from being attacked by a giant cat! That's it for this weekend. Thanks for checking in! - MT

@CrossAir Your revamp of the paint and decals look great! Nice color scheme too! - MT

@electric indigo Cool! Though I don't trust ladies with swords The Siren is looking great! @pengbuzz That's some AWESOME Photoshopping! Looks like Starfleet is escorting the Yamato out of orbit before they get into a franchise war!🤣 And that Enterprise slick sheet looks awesome too! - MT

@peter I had the Nichimo 1/200 Yamato back in the day, but sold it. The ABS plastic is NOT easy to work with or cement! What a pain! I had the brass barrels and PE too along with Janis' book. It was a beautiful ship though! - MT

@pengbuzz Major suckage! That's too bad. But I'm glad to see you're salvaging it. I'm in the same spot. I built that 1/48 Dougram Hasty Ironfoot F4X (Revel Robotech "Gartan") and the skinny internal frame piece that the legs go on broke. The leg halves are thoroughly cemented together too. I saw it might be a problem so I reinforced it some, but I should have gone all out and assumed that sucker would break. Oh well. At least it still stands up on its own @derex3592 Its looking good so far! I told a fellow modeller in my club about what you did for planking on your deck. He's building a battleship and was stuck how to replicate the wood deck. I told him about your build and what you did. He liked the idea! @peter That is an EXCELLENT Excelsior! Great shots too. Make me glad I'm not a Klingon! On a side note, I got no modelling done this weekend, but saw a cool movie with my wife. For all of you IJN Battleship Yamato fans, you may want to see "The Great War of Archimedes." It's a part fiction, part true story of the origins of the battleship Yamato and some of the Imperial Navy's back-room dealings (and ours). For those of you that don't know, the same way we have international treaties on nuclear weapons today, battleships were under similar treaties back then. That plays a little into the story.I'm sure there are inaccuracies galore in the history of it, but it was fun to watch. My wife even liked the movie which is saying something. It is not a war movie (except the beginning), but it is a good technical and psychological thriller. It is a Toho movie, so its like Godzilla without Godzilla. The lip syncing is a little off too just like the old Godzilla movies, but it was still fun to watch: https://www.military.com/off-duty/movies/2021/04/29/japanese-war-movie-aims-reveal-secrets-of-wwii-battleship-yamato.html Enjoy! - MT

@Thom I got you! Yep, we know its in there! @pengbuzz Whatever you do, don't toss all that great work in the trash! That joint is hardly visible anyhow. You could probably paint those areas all flat black and no one would be the wiser. If you can scratch build an awesome looking Vader, you can fix a battle hardened X-wing! - MT
-
@pengbuzz Who needs a 3D printer when you got Pengbuzz!!! That is an AWESOME sculpt!!! And better than what probably would have come with the kit! @Thom Nice touches to the J79s! Once again, too bad you'll hardly see them. - MT
-
@pengbuzz Your fixes are a HUGE improvement over the stock parts! It looks much better! @Thom I almost feel bad because even with a mirror, hardly anyone will see that wheel well! It looks realistic though! - MT
-
@Rock Looking good! Those narrow wings look like they'd never hold that ordnance in real life😧 @pengbuzz Your paint still looks good and your pilot and cockpit work make it that much more realistic! The laser cannon mods were a good idea! They look like how model propeller blades are - always breaking if you just look at them! - MT

What the heck! I missed a WHOLE PAGE of builds! I guess I've been busier than I thought! @derex3592 That's super star destroyer is looking great! Yes, thank God the weather is cooling down now. I was just enjoying it outside! @Ignacio Ocamica You sir are BLESSED to have gotten that AWESOME kit! I look forward to seeing your build. @Thom Your cockpit build is looking great! I thought Tomcat too. The wheel well details are great! @peter Your starship build is looking good despite your self criticism! So let us guess. Your next project involves swords and pointy stabby thingies? @pengbuzz Your X-Wing build is looking great!!! The cockpit and pilot modifications are a HUGE improvement over the stock parts. Was that pilot flexing his muscles for the chicks or what? That is the weirdest pose yet other than those pilots who look like their holding something other than the control stick😄 @wm cheng Your F-15C would make the Air Force proud! Your details including the new "turkey feathers" look great; especially at that scale! @007-vf1 Your Monster came out great! Its too bad about the crooked resin, but it doesn't look so bad. I think most people won't notice it anyhow. I may have not seen it except you mentioned it. @arbit Everytime I think of this post I think of the line, "Big anime eyes" from Robots. 007 is right. If you coat your decals with the Microsol liquid decal film, they will hold up MUCH better. The film is pretty tough. It is even used over water to make sheets covering those super slow flying balsa stick planes. It works great! @Grayson72 I never heard of those guys before! I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the link! - MT

@Urashiman That Cutlass is looking great! The dimensions look good on it too. The difference between children playing in the sand and adults, adults mix it with glue to make it permanent . So I mixed some sand with a lot of glue and some water to make what you see. Today it seems to be setting up pretty solid. I put everything in the sand to make impressions and then let it dry. Nothing more I can do on it now until it fully sets. Thanks for checking in everyone! - MT

@GMK That is looking good! I haven't seen that turret before. @Urashiman That is looking great! What scale are you planning on making it? - MT

The 'Hey look at this really cool model build I saw' post
MechTech replied to Shawn's topic in Model kits
The wool valkyrie is COOL! "And now your kids can cuddle up with Macross each night!" 😄 - MT -
The Regault kit is old, but it DOES still look good and had some nice features on it. We bought the re-release when they first came out. I have to build it with my son. I look forward to your finished build! - MT
-
GREAT build and finish! You are one of the few people in this world to own such a kit. - MT
-
Those Hasegawa sprue shots looks A W E S O M E !!! - MT
-
I have to agree, great photography and finish! - MT
-
That looks good and is waaaay better than just sticking them in a glass case. It helps put things into context. Cool idea! - MT

@pengbuzz Rebuilding stuff seems to be half of building stuff The shape looks great! @peter I wondered what happened to you. Good progress on your fleet! That's cool how you're teaching swordsmanship. I had a great grandfather who was a Ju-Jitsu champion after spending some time in Japan where he learned it. He then went on to teach it to U.S. troops for WWII and doubled as a voice interceptor and analyst for intelligence. @derex3592 She's a tough old girl, but looks good when complete! If you haven't yet, you may need to let the decals soak for 30 minutes, no kidding! @wm cheng That's a beautiful cockpit and finish! I forgot how many equipment boxes were in the back of F-15c's. Congrats on the film productions! - MT

@big F You're still alive! You are too right! Same ole' MS shenanigans! @505thAirborne You're paint is looking good! I look forward to the final finish. @Urashiman Your gift looks REALLY good! Great details. "One Piece" is a trip of a series! We got one of the movies without seeing the series and almost got lost - but it was funny! @arbit Your Ranka looks good! I think you are on the right track with painting. The only thing that might make your lined areas straighter is decals, but she looks really good! And you printed her. She's not a mass produced kit. @derex3592 OG QRau! The primer is looking smooth! @pengbuzz I always like to see a coat of primer, it helps bring the model together! I've been busy doing graphics, but got a little modeling in this weekend. All of the original bolt detail on the gun had to be filed off to clean up the seems. So I replaced that. Then glued stuff together for "junk" on the diorama. - MT

@pengbuzz There is a lot of "suspicious" updates for Windows right now. I'm seeing the same problem. There is one PC I'm thinking of resetting back to original drivers and updates. It crawls like a snail all of a sudden, and it isn't used in a way a virus would normally hit it. Why can't everyone just play nice! - MT

Aha! It might be the paint thinner reacting. Try cleaning your airbrush with isopropyl alcohol or Tamiya X-20A acrylic thinner and let it dry out. Originally, ammonia is used to clean the coating itself off floors. So that might work (but stink bad). The original formula is water based. I've heard you can thin it with water, alcohol / X-20 (up to 50/50), but most people airbrush it straight. It shouldn't be a heavy coat, but wet enough to level itself out. Get those plastic spoons out and practice Let us know how it works for you. - MT

@pengbuzz That's cool! Looking good! - MT

Welcome, Klee! The coating has different names in different countries. In America, Pledge is a spray can furniture polish (SC Johnson company). I assume you're talking about the version that is a clear acrylic coating for floors - just making sure. It should dry crystal clear. How are you applying it? Via airbrush? Brushing? Dipping? I've heard that it can yellow if the coat is much too thick. The orange peeling is also usually a sign that it is reacting to something else. Is the undercoating thoroughly dry? If using a brush, brushes never really come clean. There may be something still in the brush causing you problems. Just throwing some ideas out there... - MT
