  1. Bandai will be releasing 1/48 and 1/72 Star Wars models. I would love to see Star Wars kits with Gunpla MG/RG color separation. They also showed a 1/1700 scale Star Destroyer with lighting effects. Don't know if that will be an actual kit. http://www.actionfigurefury.com/band...toy-show-2014/
  2. The Hangar expansion set for the 1/500 Yamato is now in-stock at HLJ http://www.hlj.com/product/ban990136/Sci
  3. I stand corrected. Must be this description in HLJ that confused me ;-P "Just in time for the eagerly awaited live-action "Space Battleship Yamato" movie debuting in Japan this December, Bandai serves up this fantastic all-new tooling of the iconic ship! Based on painstaking research on the ship's design for the original 1974 animated TV series, this 1/500 kit will measure 53cm (that's 20.86 inches) upon completion! The main guns will have impressive swiveling action, thanks to a built-in gear gimmick. Clear parts will be included for use in the first and second bridges, Wave-Motion Engine, and Wave-Motion Gun. A display stand is also included, along with six small craft: two apiece of the Cosmo Zero, Black Tiger, and Cosmo Tiger II. A snap-together kit that can be assembled without glue. Molded pretty much in color, but to really do it justice it will need some paint!"
  4. The 2010 model is based on the live action movies not 2199
  5. I don't have that problem. The BPX-01 is a symbol of the original series. The GX-64 is a symbol for 2199. Unless you felt that the 2199 series is also a retread.
  6. Sorry to come back so late. Was really busy last week and I want to compare it to the BPX-01 so I have to dig that out of storage so I can have them side by side. (my BPX-01 is still in the box). I have not put either one together and I'm not planning to until I get a couple of display cases but here's my impression after powering it up to make sure everything works. BPX-01 Pros: Tons of gimmicks. A bunch of internal details, rotating AA guns, Lighted Hangar bay, Cosmo Zero launch bay, etc Cons: More of a toy than a model, some of the covers for the internal details does not fit well. The Spring loaded wings leave a fairly large open gap in the hull when closed. GX-57 Did not buy it since I felt that it traded a lot of details for more sound effect and a remote (at least they came up with a better solution for the wings). Not really worth an upgrade from the BPX-01 for me though. GX-64 Definitely not toy like. Everything is much more to scale (which makes for a lot of delicate pieces) but I agree that it looks a lot more like a well finished model. It's more something you want to put in a display case than wooshing around the house with ;-P. A worthy upgrade from the BPX-01. The only thing I don't like is the rotating hangar wheel which is not accurate since the varies fighter shelves (for lack of a better word) is fixed and will not remain level as you rotate the launch wheel. I would rather have a non-rotating wheel but have the shelves at the proper angle.
  7. OK. I'll hold off on the Walthers until I try a new bottle of mark Softer. Thanks.
  8. OK. Thanks guys. Local hobby shop have plenty of Mark Softer in stock so I'll pick up another bottle. I'll also check and see if they have Walther's Solvaset at the time.
  9. Is there any details you want me to check and maybe take pictures of? What would help you make up your mind? OK. I'll get another bottle and try it on the second one. At least the local hobby shop seems to have quite a few bottles in stock last week.
  10. I remember reading that others have had problem using decal softener with Bandai water decals on their VF-25s. I just build a 1/72 Cosmo Falcon from Yamato 2199 and I'm having problem with the large decals on the wing and tail conforming well. I used Mr. Hobby Mark Softer but it didn't seem to work very well as i don't see the "wrinkle" effect at all. Does anyone remember what work well with them as I'm in the process of building another one and I want to get the decals to work better on this one. This is my initial result after repeat application of Mark Softer.
  11. Got my GX-64 from Amazon today. For those of you that's worried that you're going to get it with the Argo name. You can put your mind at ease. It's just the Japanese product/package with a Star Blazer 2199 label tape to the right side of the box where it had: 宇宙戦艦 2199 ヤマト I'm going to see if I can remove it without damaging the box but it's no big deal. The lower left of the box still say: GX-64 Space Battleship Yamato 2199 Just got home and still have not open the box but will put a few pics up later.
  12. It may also be my decal softener. It's a fairly new bottle of Mr. Hobby Mark Softer. It only occurs to me way afterward that I did not see the "Wrinkle" effect as I applied it onto the decal but I did last time I used it on another model. Strange, could they go bad on you. It's only been a couple months.
  13. Finished my Bandai 1/72 Cosmo Falcon build. Had some problem with the large decals on the wings and tail. They did not conform well even with Mr. Hobby Mark Softer. Had to trace some of the panel lines with an X-acto knife. Short video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sn5cxgFvbiY
  14. I'm definitely getting the Hangar kit since I have not started my 1/500 yet and I can find other ways to put in batteries and LEDs. I may also order the photo-etch if it shows up about the same time.
  15. OK. The Hangar set are due in June at 3240 Yen. The Photo-etch does not have a date yet but price will be at 4880 Yen and looks to be Bandai Premium only.
  16. Seems Amazon got more GX-64 as they updated my order to arriving on March 4th but they raised the price to $249.00 if you place an order now.
  17. Anyone here ordered the GX-64 from Amazon? It was suppose arrive on Feb 15th and Prime members are suppose to get it today. I just got an email from Amazon that the item have been delayed with no revise ship date.
  18. I notice on the Anime or Science Fiction forum that quite a few people are buying the new Yamato 2199 kits so I want to start a thread where member can post their WIP and finished kits.
  19. Ok. I'm going to start a thread in the model section of the forum. I'll start by copying my Cosmo Zero build over there and my WIP on a Cosmo Falcon that I'm working on now (this one will be a fully painted kit), Feel free to jump in and add your own WIP or finished pictures. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=40677 Well. That did not work as I was told that model section is only for Macross models. Guess we'll just have to continue posting our WIP and finished kits here.
  20. I gave up a Cosmo Zero to teach my friend's 12 years old son how to build models. We did the cut, sand and assembly together. then I did the panel lines and decals for him. Kit is not painted only a clear coat before the panel line and a flat coat afterward.
  21. The only thing that I hate about the GX-64 is that after going through all the trouble of setting up all the wonderful effect lighting on this model only to have left out the observation deck on the side. Some brave soul needs to open one up and see if we can wire a couple LED into that area.
  22. I see a lot of people buying and building the Bandai 2199 kits. Is there a common thread over at the model section where people have put up their WIP and finished models?
  23. OK. I've been working on this kit for a couple days. So far, just cutting, sanding and test fitting all the parts. Be prepare for some putty work. The landing gear covers does not fit well in retracted mode. The front one goes slightly below the airframe edge and the rear ones leaves a noticeable gab between the small winglet and the leg. Also. Good luck if you're planing on mounting the missiles on the wing and have it still be able to swivel when you swipe the wings back and forth. The pivot part of the missile mount is very tiny and requires glue but if even a tiny bit of plastic cement sips onto the pivot, you'll fuse the whole joint. I just did one and even using a needle size applicator, it's almost too much. I think I manage to save it as I keep turning the pivot as the plastic cement dries but it was close and there's 5 more to go. Say what you will about the Bandai VF-1 kit but at least those joints work.
  24. It's actually a lot easier. Not having all those small armor pieces/internal frame/moving joints makes painting a lot easier.
  25. Anyone one seen a English color chart yet? Did not see it on Hobby Search scans.
