Latino Review managed to get a hold of the Halo script. You can check out the detailed review here: http://www.latinoreview.com/scriptreviews/halo/review.html To me, it sounds like it's going to be an adaptation of the second Halo novel. At least the novel was good. However, I'm a little upset that there is NO mention of Sgt. Johnson. Even though this movie looks like it's getting better and better, I don't think it's going to change other video game movies (BTW, Splinter Cell will kick ass). Just because Halo might be good, doesn't mean everybody else is going to start making good video game movies. It just going to mean that more video game movies will made. If anything, they will get worse. Studios will see how Halo did well and try to capitalize off the video game movie hype. Just watch and see...

That's what I was saying in my post... I'm suprised MAME .68 will actually RUN macross. ... The latest version of MAME is v0.100u3. If your running windows, I would recommend MAME 32 (which is also updated constantly. If there's a new version of MAME, there's one of 32). It might make things a lot easier for you. For ROMs, I usually go to these places: (a quick warning: PowerEmu is slow as hell. They have a great selection, but they're a last resort) http://www.poweremu.net/index_en.php http://www.romnation.net/ http://www.emuasylum.com/

It's not the rom that isn't working. It's the emulator. I have version 0.100 of MAME32 and the sound works fine. It didn't work on the older version though. What version do you have?

Anime DVDs -- is it bootleg or the real deal?
VT 1010 replied to danth's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I have seen some really good box art before on an HK boot. It was almost indistinguishable from an official release. The best way to tell if is looking for trademarks and logos. If you get a Gundam DVD and there isn't one single Bandai logo on it, something's wrong. I've also found some bootlegs that have extra features too (one had more than the official release). You really have to pay close attention to the details. This link might help too: http://www.digital.anime.org.uk/piratefaq.html -

"...shines the name of Rodger Young."

And the fact that it had a plot which went beyond the "I'm gonna join up to impress this girl" story. 325411 That's why I said MANY. Maybe there should be a seperate thread: "SST: The Book vs. The Movie"... -

Gui, where are the snoopers and the Y-rack? Other than that, it looks pretty cool. I heard somewhere that the Studio Nue designs where approved by Heinlein. Does anybody know if this is true. I think there are some power armor drawings in the Combat Command: In the world of Starship Troopers book. There is a website with the drawings, but I can't remember the address. BTW, one of the MANY reasons the book was better than the movie was because of the power armor. -

Robotech honored by Science Fiction Museum
VT 1010 replied to Roy's Blues's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Alien 2: On Earth? There has never been an alien movie that takes place on earth. There were a couple of scenes that take place in a spacestation in earth orbit in Aliens and a deleted scene from the fourth movie, but nothing else. Bsu legato, I don't think you have your facts strait. Sorry, I'm a huge Alien fan and had to bring that up. Now to get back on topic... Mr March, it's not like writing a letter would hurt. It's worth a try. We have to do something before HG and Robocrap get even more famous and steal all the credit. In Japan, macross is often over shadowed by Gundam and the like. Everywhere else in the world, it's exploited and sh!t on. I have an idea...We can write a letter to Hilary Clinton and say that HG is ruining the minds of America's youth. It's teaching kids to hate and kill aliens. They're making games of this too. And worst of all, children are listening to Reba West's singing. The F*ed up franchise is creating F*ed up kids. -
Aliens M577 APC a little closer to reality
VT 1010 replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
We already have an APC-like vehicle. The US Army's Stryker although may not look like the APC, is very similar. A commanding officer stays back in the vehicle and monitors the battle, giving orders from in the Stryker. All the tactical information is displayed on screens in the back. Sound familiar? Also, they are working on hard armor that not only looked like the armor from aliens, but also monitors the soldiers heart rate, etc. The new armor combined with the technology from the Land Warrior program makes it very close to he M3 body armor used by the CM. The dropship in not forgotten either. The Osprey is also very similar. However, it's not a spacecraft and it uses propellers. It only a matter of time till they upgrade to more advanced aircraft though. And then there's the pulse rifle. According to the Colonial Marines Technical Manual and M41-A Pulse Rifle Manual, the G11 and M41 are two completly different beasts. The only thing they have in common is the fact that they both fire caseless rounds. The rounds themselves are also very different. The closest thing we have out now, is the XM-29 OICW (unfortunately, last I heard, this project was canned). Also in the works is a grenade that can be fired from a regular shotgun, without the need for a grenade launcher attachment (check out the link here: http://www.defensereview.com/modules.php?n...article&sid=741). Looks like we almost have a pulse rifle. Now we just have to wait till WY, Armat, and Matsucorp are established. What I really want to see is a Particle Beam Phalanx and Sharp Sticks. -
Everybody keeps saying Halo has no story. Did anybody read the novels? Although the first game didn't have that much story, if you read the first and second novel, it becomes much more enjoyable. Tthe second game had a pretty decent story too. The novels atleast enhance the story of the games. Much like in the first game, in the opening cut scene they talk about a blind jump from Reach. Ordinarily, you wouldn't understand what they were talking about. But, if you read the novels, it makes sense. There are games out there with better story, but the Halo franchise isn't that bad. There are other games with no real story at all *cough*Doom*cough* (Hell, Mario has more plot depth than Doom...). I hope this movie is good. I am so sick of rolling my eyes everytime I hear "video game movie". I'd like to be excited about one for once. To make matters worse I am a Halo fanboy, so I really don't want it to suck. LMAO Halo: Pwning of the Noobs. The sad part about it though, it's so true... BTW, I heard Kojima-san was working on a MGS movie. He's rumored to be directing, but I don't know. Either way, I'm pretty sure there making one.

Anyone Else Have Problems With Shipping Carriers?
VT 1010 replied to DeathHammer's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
For USPS it really depends on where you live. The carrier in my area changes all the time, so often we get mixed results. To make matters worse, the @$$hole who named the streets thought it would be a good idea to have two streets with the exact same addresses on each one. The only difference between them is a Blvd. and a court. Service differs from area to area. Trust me, my dad has been working for the post office for 20+ years. I have been to a lot of different ones. Some were nice, others just sucked. It all depends on were you live. So don't think the whole post office sucks. UPS: The carrier in my area has always been nice. Can't say too much about them though. I hear that they treat their employees like Sh!t though. FedEx and DHL: I Hardly ever deal with them. BTW, What does this have to do with anime or sci-fi? -
I have M+ for PSX. I can try and copy it, but I'm not sure how I'm going to share it. Any suggestions? There are differening opinions on that. I myself like it. It's a little different from the other Macross games. Unfortunately, there is no manual transformation. You play as a a battroid for a couple of missions, then you play as fighter for a couple of missions, and then batrroid again and so on and so forth. This bothers a lot of people. Also, the game is fairly short too. To make things worse, a some find the game easy (I have to disagree, but maybe that's because I suck at it ). The gameplay is similar to VFX-2, but still pretty different. It's much more arcade like. Although not perfect, it's still a pretty good game, especially with it being a liscensed one. I give it a 4 out of 5.

23 320667 Thanks, I'll see if I can find the disk.

Regardless of how little the difference is, I still want to play the demo. Which OPM disk was it on?

Hicks' gear is way off. The knife/sheath is completely wrong (he had a Gerber MkII and black canvas sheath). The sheath wasn't attached directly to his armor, it was on the left strap of his webgear, which was connected to the armor (there is only one strap on the figure and that has the grenades on it.) Actually, the grenades should be on the left and the knife on the right. He also never had that many grenades (he only had 3-4). The grenades don't even have colored tips (even the McFarlane figure had colored tips on the grenades). Hicks never had a pistol either. Press a button and he does "the thing with the knife' The figures just wouldn't be complete without an "Ultimate Badass" figure though. Being the Alien fanboy that I am, I'll probably buy them anyway. "I just need to know one thing: Where they are..." I know the guy that is making the 1/6 APC (I don't think he has finished it yet). He made 1/6 scale USCM gear way before this. They were awsome. The detail and accuracy was amazing (better than some 1/1 stuff). In fact, I think Hot Toys used the sculpts from some of his stuff. His stuff was way better than anything else I've seen so far. I'll try and see if I can find some of his links.

MYTH: This guy's an idiot. TRUTH: He's an really an evil agent of HG, trying to spread more robotech propaganda. And he's an idiot.

I remember reading there was a demo of the US VF-X2 on the disk that came with an old issue of Official Playstation magazine. Does anybody know which one? There are some demo disks in the torrent section of Emuparadise.org. If not on any of those disks, maybe we could request a torrent of the right one.

There was a thread about this on The Aliens Legacy board. No one really knows. A couple of people are still searching, I think. Last I heard it made an appearance for Alien War, then went to back into some english guy's shed. -

VT 1010 replied to Ladic's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
renegadeleader1, The ride your thinking of was probably the T2:3D-esque ride (without the live actors or the 3D) which was in the US. Alien War was different and it was only in London. Unfortunately for me, Alien War was across the Atlantic and I didn't even know about it at the time. It wasn't till a few years ago that I had heard about it. I have a promo video on my computer, but I don't have a way of posting it. It shows some of the ride, but most of it was left out (they didn't want to spoil it). Still interesting to watch. Check HERE for more info on Alien War. Ask for Harry. I pretty sure another member there worked on Alien War too. Someone there might have the video. Also, you can check out Harry's site for more info on Alien War (and the Alien series in general) HERE. -
Is anybody getting the Aoshima Dropship
VT 1010 replied to Montarvillois's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
My guess would be the articles in Aliens magazine that was done by the author of the technical manual. Am I correct bsu legato? BTW, are those the same ones that were posted on The Alien Legacy board? Also, I almost forgot, there's a place somewhere (I can't remember where) that has most of (can't remember if it had all the pages either...) technical manual for download. If anybody wants, I can try to dig up the link out of my long list of favorites. -

VT 1010 replied to Montarvillois's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The Aliens Colonial Marines Technical Manual is a book that focuses on the marines and their equipment from the movie. It's really interesting. The book talks about the guns, vehicles and equipment you see in the movie (and some you didn't. It has a lot of Extended Universe stuff too). It's considered by many to be the Aliens Bible. Unfortunately, it's been out of print for years and it's usually not that cheap (they're around $50). If you can find one, I highly recommend it. -
Actually, in the book (the first one), they did use a rocket launcher on the raptors. They used the M72 LAW (Light Anti-tank Weapon). Muldoon (the Australian guy in the movie) fired a tranq rocket from the LAW at the Rex and he used the AT rockets on the raptors. The velociraptors where supposed to be "slow bleeders" or something (it's been four years since I read the book) and they wouldn't die right away. The raptor would be kind of like a terminator and just keep attacking you. The main problem with using a LAW is limited ammo. I think they barely had enough to stop the raptors. In a hypothetical situation, my anti-dino weapons of choice would be, -M2 BMG -Barret M82A1A -Minigun (forgot the proper name. Have to be mounted in a vehicle and have a sh!t load of ammo) -MG42 (have to be mounted in a vehicle too. lots of ammo and some extra barrels would be required.) -RPK -AK47 -M203 (might have it attached to an M4A1 with AP ammo, but I don't know) -MP5 in 10mm -M870 w/ slugs -The grenade lancher portion of the XM-29 -H&K USP (probably in .40. Do they come in 10mm?) -.44 Magnum -Armat M41-A pulse rifle -Plenty of ammo Obviously, I wouldn't be able to take all of these with me, but these would probably be the assortment of weapons I would choose from. I'd probably have some sort of anti-tank weapons too, but my knowledge of them is quite limited. BTW, I think there was a whole book dedicated to the science behind JP.
