Fortunately, no. Unlike the recent AVP game, this one actually looks to be good.

I'm almost disappointed that my old Sony HDTV didn't bite it sooner. At the time, they had recently stopped making the 960, so I wasn't able to get it to replace my old tv. Instead I ended up with the 970.

I'd hypothesize that most classic video games look like crap because of the unusual display resolution they used. IIRC, wasn't it some sort of psuedo-240p? In addition, you have to take into account the display (or receiver or video processor) may not have good enough deinterlacing/video processing to handle the signal well. Case in point, I just got a new plasma HDTV (Panasonic VT30). Surprisingly, the NES doesn't look as bad as I expected, but it still doesn't compare to the 32" CRT in the game room. The NES looks worse through the reciever (Pioneer VSX-1121k), utilizing its processing capabilities. This seems to be unique to video games though. LaserDiscs, on the other hand, look excellent (for LaserDiscs). Indeed, they actually look better than ever. LDs have a standard 480i signal and can be deinterlaced with IVTC. This is obviously different from video games, hence my hypothesis in why there's such a quality difference on modern displays. And as an aside, what happened to S-Video inputs? Neither my TV nor my reciever have them...

It was awful seeing it live. I sat in front of the TV for two hours, waiting to find out if he made it... He was one heck of a driver--not to mention this year's Indy 500 winner. RIP.

Starship Troopers: Invasion - New SST Anime
VT 1010 replied to VT 1010's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
To be honest, I actually liked the first movie...provided I don't view it as an adaptation. The original OVA had some good action scenes and the awesome power armor by Miyatake. Everything between the explosions though wasn't very good and the music sucked (the worst anime soundtrack I've ever heard). IMHO, the best adaptation was Roughnecks. There is, however, a reason why I'm still excited about this new anime. We can thank Shinji Aramaki for this:- 121 replies

I hope Shinji Aramaki is designing power armor for it as well as directing. Either way, I'm interested. http://www.starshiptroopersinvasion-movie.com/ http://www.aintitcool.com/node/51572

It looks like somebody didn't agree with us. http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/22043/-drive-sued-for-misleading-trailer I'll admit the trailer was a bit misleading though.

I will also join in and recommend Valkyria Chronicles. It should have just enough JRPG-ness to hook you, but differing gameplay elements so as to be a little something different. Plus you never know, it could be a gateway to different stuff.

It was made in the 90's. Unfortunately I don't know if that helps it or hurts it. I haven't seen it in years. I may have to watch it again... Isn't this kind of like Highlander though? One awesome movie followed by a bunch of shitty sequels?
-
Just saw it. It was excellent. The only real complaint I have is that there wasn't as much driving as I was expecting. Nonetheless, the few chases were well executed. Bottom line: We need more films like this.

It looks just like the Alien Anthology Blu-ray set. If that's the case then they should be scratch-free. It's been almost a year and I haven't had any scratches from the packaging on mine.

Isn't that what they did in G Gundam?

It also didn't help that the PS-X was released shortly before the PS3. And the PS3 now has most of the same functions. In the nineties, it seems like they added X to everything to make it sound cooler. Don't forget the difference between PS(1) and PSOne.

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time
VT 1010 replied to JELEINEN's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Look, Dave! Cow! I think including any SyFy movie in this category is too easy. It's akin to making a list of the smelliest objects on Earth and adding turds to it. Well of course they stink. All of them stink and there are so many of them, you can make a separate list. -

The director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven was pretty good. Either way, although his overall track record has been inconsistent, all of his scifi movies have been excellent so far. All two of them...

Actually, the DNA of Constellation is still around. Same ship, different name. For better or worse...

I look forward to reading it. 3-2-1 Contact? Wow, you guys are old. I grew up on Bill Nye the Science Guy.

For those of us in the US, Wonders of the Universe is airing on the Science Channel this month. I'm going to have to record it.

I think I understand what you're saying. Indeed, politics and bias can be troublesome at times when they mingle with science; however, that's not always the case. Humans are involved in the process. It certainly does happen on occasion--but not to the commonality or extent you're implying. Your suggesting frequent coverups and (I think) post hoc alterations (applied selectively or ad hoc) to multiple things. In order for a scientific theory to be accepted, there has to be a consensus. Your claims would have big implications if they're true. It wouldn't be just a handful of individuals, but the whole scientific community involved in these particular areas. Do you have any examples or credible sources showing these to be true? To make an apropos quote by Carl Sagan (and to stay on topic), "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." Thank you for providing links. Unfortunately, they don't seem to mention any strange electromagnetic phenomenon you mentioned earlier. Unless you're referring to the infrared and visible light emitted from the impact, which are both part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The comet's composition may seem to be unexpected and unusual, but not Made-out-of-cheese Strange. It's still made out of rock, gas, and ice. Do you have any links with more specificity that can support your claims? And if I'm wrong in interpreting your statements, please clarify. It could just be a simple misunderstanding. EDIT: grammatical error.

Interesting. Nonetheless, I still fail to see how it's a "lie." This is science we're talking about here. They've made new discoveries and have new data, therefore they change the model. Many of the places or people (myself, for example) are just going by outdated information; they're not lying. BTW, I never heard of the Tempel 1 outburst. It sounds interesting. Do you have a link?
