Let's also not forget the pilot. IIRC (and David H can probably better explain, or correct me here), modern planes are capable of a lot more in terms of maneuverability, but their capabilities are gimped so the pilots don't turn into mush. Going from 0 to Mach 3 in 10 seconds would also cause a lot of physical stress on the pilot too. Macross may be more realistic than most, but that doesn't mean it isn't free of its share of own issues. In the end, it's still a show about space aliens and giant robots.

News Stories That Make You Feel Superior

This genius "hacks" Major Nelson's XBL account and films himself doing it. Aside from him generally sounding like an idiot in the video, the information he gives away allows himself to be very easily identified (they list his name, address, and facebook account in the comments section). Man, what 1337 H4X0R SKI11$... http://kotaku.com/5504145/xbox-live-direct...ed-are-you-next -
Question about Region 2 Macross Plus Remaster Box
VT 1010 replied to oshan's topic in Movies and TV Series
Well the M+ Remastered boxset was supposed to be a limited edition, and it is now OOP according to amazon.co.jp. Since the HD masters have already been made (hence the new DVD release), it should only be a matter of time until they release it. Blu-ray versions of older movies, shows, and the like just keep on coming out with no end in sight, so I wouldn't be surprised if they announce an M+ BD in the next couple of years. Hell, there still a chance it could come out before the year is over. -

Avatar still wasn't quite as detailed/clear/sharp as a 2D movie, but the 3D helped compensate for the lack of resolution. The most significant part of Avatar 3D was how unobtrusive it was. It didn't feel gimmicky and obnoxiously in-your-face as most 3D films have been. It suited that particular type of movie (Sci-fi/Action w/ lots of Special Effects), in that it helped with the immersion--not, "OOOH, LOOK AT ME!! I'M POPPING OUT OF THE SCREEN!!" It actually added depth to the image. I feel that if it's done right, 3D for games can actually work well--though it has to be applied with tact and subtlety. Infact, the 3D Glasses for the Sega Master System aren't as bad as some may think for most of the games. Either way, no matter how good 3D gaming becomes, it will never top the Virtual Boy! -
Question about Region 2 Macross Plus Remaster Box
VT 1010 replied to oshan's topic in Movies and TV Series
Dolby Surround/Pro Logic was the (digital) norm for Laserdisc. Other than that, there was no discreet, multi-channel PCM on LD. In the mid-90's, 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS were introduced, but that was it. After checking, it seems multi-channel PCM is indeed a part of the DVD-Video standard (Link); however, considering how much bandwidth and space would be required, it wouldn't be very practical. -
Question about Region 2 Macross Plus Remaster Box
VT 1010 replied to oshan's topic in Movies and TV Series
Yes, they are 2.0 stereo, 16bit/48khz. I think it's also Dolby Pro-Logic too. Multi-channel PCM is pretty rare on plain ol' DVD (I'm not even sure if it's in the spec). It's not too surprising with anime to only be in stereo; even the Macross Frontier Blu-ray discs are only in 2.0 LPCM, so I wouldn't get your hopes up. Personally, I'd take well mastered stereo over a terribly mixed 5.1 any day. -

My Win 7 and XP machines all communicate fine. TVersity and other media streming services work without a hitch over my home network. And my modded Xbox has no issues talking to my Windows PC. The only time I've had problems was when I used Ubuntu; networking was a bitch and I never really did get it to work right. What's issues were you having anyway? -

Hmm, Darth Vader on a motorcycle...The only way to top that would be Easy Rider with Storm Troopers. Jack Nicholson as Boba Fett FTW!

Actually, Bruce Lee had filmed a good portion of the movie, though it was all at the end of the story (he died before he could finish filming it). Some of the footage was lost and most of the production notes were lost shortly after. They then decided to take what little film they had and hack it together in what was the first of many Bruceploitation movies. This version of the Game of Death bore little resemblence to Lee's vision and had many different scenes with stuntmen and cardboard cutouts (seriously) added to it. Many years later, however, they found all of the footage and production notes. John Little (Bruce Lee's official biographer) and the Lee estate decided to take all of the footage (and only the original footage) and edit it together to more closely resemble the film Bruce Lee had intended to make. There is a great documentary on this, as well as Bruce's life, called Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey. It talks about the production of the Game of Death and (for the most part) has all of the footage uncut shown at the end. There's also a book by the same name that goes into more detail. Long story short: quit trying to exploit Bruce Lee and just do something F*cking original!

Well there's a bug that allows you to play as one of the female characters completely naked. There's also a shower scene, which would explain why there's a nude character model in game. So far though, I haven't heard of anything along the lines of Fahrenheit's interactive sex scenes. So believe it or not, Heavy Rain seems to be getting good reviews because of...well the gameplay.

Shenmue 3 isn't coming out because the first two cost way too damn much to make and only earned a fraction of it back.

The All Things Video Games Thread!
VT 1010 replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I guess they'll be crawling their way to mediocrity... I think we can say EA has passed the torch to Activision. Indeed they will prove it is possible to kill a few cows by milking them to death. -

Well it looks like Call of Duty is starting to die a slow, painful death. http://kotaku.com/5484026/activisions-new-...oper-new-genres COD/MW was great while it lasted... -
I read that before. I think it was in the Fall of Reach. It seems it's impossible to discuss Legends without including the novels as well.
-
I noticed that too. Hopefully it won't be the last time we see them either. Unfortunately, although the stories themselves are canon, the same isn't necessarily true for the designs of the characters and equipment. They could very well change in Halo: Reach. I mean look at Cortana's various iterations; none of the designs resemble each other in any of the shorts. And Dr. Halsey is supposed to resemble Cortana. There's no telling what she might look like in an "official" design...

It's hard to decide. My favorites were Prototype, Homecoming, and Babysitter. If I had to choose one though, I'd say Prototype. I think some of them were watchable individually on Xbox Live; they may still be there if you don't want to buy the disc yet. That's right, Spartans never die. It didn't seem too out of place. In the novels I've read, I didn't remember them mentioning every single Spartan casualty. There was some ambiguity, IIRC. Either way, with the exception of Odd One Out, all of the stories are considered canon.
-
Indeed... BTW, does anybody know who exactly it was a Studio Nue that designed the SST power armor? Did Shinji Aramaki happen to work for them in the 80's?
-
Well they may have been planning to do just that, but the suit (and more than likely the data) was destroyed per the Cole Protocol. Of course the Halo universe would start to resemble Starship Troopers if that happened...
-
Overall, I really enjoyed Legends. It may have had some issues, but I still thought it was pretty good. I wouldn't mind more Halo anime... Didn't I just say that earlier? I was thinking the same thing. Watching the GP03 episode of Gundam Evolve makes the similarity even more apparent. The novels go into more detail in this area--especially The Fall of Reach. Legends doesn't really explain as much. The UNSC did have powered suits before the Mjollnir series; however, the Spartans still got Mjollnir suits early on (the Mk. IV, IIRC), whereas Prototype seems to take place a little later in the war. The original Mjollnir suits could only be used by Spartans because unaugmented humans couldn't withstand the physical stress. The Mjollnir suits were developed in parallel to the Spartan-II program, which started years before humans encountered the covenant. Spartans were so few because making them was such a difficult and risky process. Because of the augmentation surgery, many of the Spartans either died or ended up with some disability (it may have been half of them, but I can't remember). With that said, they did make more Spartans later on with the Spartan III project (these Spartans are introduced in The Ghost of Onyx).

IIRC, the director of Prototype used to work for Ichiro Itano, so that would explain it. Is it me or did the suit in Prototype resemble the Studio Nue power armor from Starship Troopers?
