1. This may not be related to macross but I thought some of the ppl who do mods and modelling here could help me out since I'm a complete baby at this stuff. This probably should be in the transformers thread but I wanted the modellers to see it..... I want to paint the gun on my MP 01 prime from grey to black and I wanted some tips on 1) what paint to use to get a really good effect and make it look authentic 2) how to prevent the paint from getting on the silver and blue bits (which I want to leave as they are). If I use a brush I'm scared that I'll either accidently overshoot the margin or be too cautious and wont paint far enough to the margin I know this request is pretty stupid but I'm a novice and I really don't want to f*** the gun up.. Thanks Dave
2. Hey guys, I saw this topic and just thought i'd throw my 2 cents in about the toynami vs Godaikin Voltrons. If you want fun accessories - go with the Godiakin If you want a well proportioned combined form and relatively sleek lions - go with the toynami. The toynami's main issues are 1. the skinny wings, 2. waist joint that can't actually be rotated without popping out the black lions tail and 3. shitty plastic connectors on the green and red lions (the connectors aren't terrible though and provided you don't transform the toy CONTINUOUSLY and treat it really roughly they wont give problems) If you can get a decent price on the toynami it's probably the way to go BTW - Could this yamato voltron be graham's "transforming mecha from an 80's anime".....
3. Good call Cap bout the head changes. The head doesn't seem quite right withought the flaring of the side pieces (the thingos near his cheeks). I don't think they'd have major issues fixing up his face a bit to make it more bad-ass
4. Has MP-04 (prime with trailer) been released yet? I'm keen on getting some reviews for it. What I'm really interested in is whether it comes with a black rifle. Also, any news about roller? I heard something about it being a Jap Takara fanclub release but then I saw something else which indicated that was hocus pocus. Any info would be great Thanks
5. Hi all, I just bought a 1/48 dyrl VF-1A Max and a super parts set and I just wanted to know if the jolly roger on the Fast pack boosters was supposed to be in black or blue for max? What the dyrl anime canon for this? Thanks for any info,
6. Ramjet looks cool. If they do his colour scream correctly he could be very cool. I like the way he's got 4 exhaust nozzles at the back....makes it look as if he can really speed boost for a mid-air ram.....(maybe that's just my nerdy fanboyness talking ) Classics starscream looks a real winner. Well proportioned robot mode Keeps things very close to the G1 and Robot masters incarnation Nice jet mode My only complaint is that his boobs hang down too far in jet mode and throw the proportions off. If the boobs could swing upwards for the jet mode and point forward i'd say this shits all over MP SS. The only other whinge with him could be the colour scheme they used.....they could've kept him more like the robot master SS.
7. Quick question. Does anyone know the official retail yen price for MP-04? Tnx in advance
8. MP-SS looks cool from dead centre front on. From the side tho it looks like he has a plane sprouting off his ass.
9. You couldn't have said it better. 422914 So Kawamori's THS-2 Convoy is also a Masterpiece? Because he spots a kick ass accuracy to the cartoon over the Alt mode, great detail and it even beats the crap out of MP Prime in articulation (and it is just 4" high). It even comes with a cartoon accurate trailer full of the gimmicks the original toy had and more. The MP Prime is yet to do so. A MP is... a big and expensive Transformer toy; just ask non G1 accurate MP Ultra Magnus. 422936 You'll notice i said "pretty good" alt mode. THS-02's alt mode was "pretty average". I agree with your point that a masterpiece should be a large scale toy which would rule out the hybrid convoy as an MP. My main point is that an alternator should tip towards the alt mode while a masterpiece should tip towards the bot mode. Kawamori's starscream is obviously tipping far too much towards the alt mode and unneccesary sacrifices have been made to achieve this such as the paint-scheme and positioning of the kibble. I'm not a hardcore fanboy but I have an impression of what GI starscream should be in my mind and it pains me to see someone mucking with it unneccesarily. The torture is that he nailed it with the first prototype and then botched it from there. BTW - magnus doesn't even fit into this debate because he was just a repaint
10. To whoever posted the comparison pic between MP SS and GI thundercracker: SPOT ON BROTHER!! Why has no one complained that in addition to giving us a robot with a skirt to pass off as MP SS we are also getting a jet mode that isn't even SS in the first place......How the hell do they plan to do a thundercracker repaint now???? I don't really care about alt mode realuism too much in a masterpiece. The MP line is all about super cartoon accurate bot modes with oodles of articulation and a pretty good alt mode. Prime was spot on. Shoji Kawamori musn't have read his brief properly....he's gone and provided us with Alternator SS not MP SS.
11. Hey dr reggae, how was primus? I've been considering getting him just to put him next to unicron. What's your info on the good and bad points of the toy? BTW - Where is your Defensor ? You've gotta get him if you've got all the other combiners 413659 Oh, I've got Defensor too...forgot to mention him. He's actually one of the more solid combiners, in that his limbs are pretty tight, and doesn't look too ungainly in gestalt mode. As individual toys, however, the Protectobots were always kind of so-so. As for Primus...I have to say that he's sweet as hell. Awesome detail (he's even got Iacon and Kaon as cities on his planet exterior), good colors, and even the kibble on him doesn't detract from the overall look and feel of the figure/character. My two minor complaints about him so far are that I wouldn't mind having more flexibility with his arms (his elbows are kind of high up, and his shoulder armor doesn't allow full rotation), and that his fingers are hella long when extended. And I was lucky enough to get the version that came with Unicron's damaged head. My girlfriend was rolling her eyes at me all weekend. Definitely worth your time and money to get, Eazy...you won't regret it. 413867 Thanks for the info mate. Was the unicron head a limited version release or something? I still have'nt done much research in terms of where to purchase the figure or the variants....

13. Ah, vermillion I see you've caught the gestalt bug..... Its a nasty little illness that...Symptoms start out with a simple little combiner purchase to satisfy a long-held childhood wish and all of a sudden you're going obsessive compulsive chasing down every combining tom, dick and harry and his neighbor's dog....... I've been there and done that mate .May your wallet forgive you in the future!
14. Hey vermillion, When you asked about the constructicon K/Os did you mean the chinese K/Os with the 6 constructicons on a reddish backing card? If you did then i can give you some info since I bought them about 3 years ago..... THEY SUCK Mine were awful. I had to nail polish or shave down a lot of the connector parts to get them to fit and most of the pull-out arms on the constructicons were hopeless. Bonecrusher's legs were also attached the wrong way around straight out of the packaging. Don't expect a good fit or a very stable devastator. I hope my info relates to the K/O that you're watching on ebay. It's possible that my specimen was a just a once-off bad piece and that most of the K/Os are fine but i thought i shoud warn you just in case. Regards Dave
15. Kawamori what have you done to my masterpiece SS????? I want the most perfect homage to G1 starscream not a dirty love child of SS and a vf-19. PS - I'm almost 100% sure the hip kibble isn't detachable since the tail booms are now too long to be re-attached to the legs
16. Has anyone done any pitot tube re-casting yet? I've lost mine already
17. Myriad, that's the funniest pic I've ever seen. SS looks very believable feminine
18. This discussion on the MP SS revisions is hella interesting and I don't mean that sarcastically. It's just downright informative to find out what other people think constitutes a "right" or "wrong" SS. BTW - HAS EVERYONE MISSED OUT ON THE FACT THAT THE INTAKES ON SS'S SHOULDER'S HAVE BEEN LENGTHENED. People were whinging about the "head on a pedestal" look before but i think the lengthened intakes improves on that. As for the hip kibble. I think it looks really gundam. In fact i think the whole toy looks gundam now. I have to agree with comickaze. Although the bot mode looks less blocky and sleeker (I actually don't mind the legs and the new feet) the thing just doesn't feel canon with the skirts. The whole point of a masterpiece is to at least get a pretty cartoon accurate bot mode. JBO, I know you'll argue with me saying that cartoon SS never had tailfins on his legs but having skirts seems more non-canon than tailfins on legs. PLUS from a front-on perspective the original proto disguised the tailfins on the legs pretty well whereas now the front-on view puts too much emphasis on the skirts.
19. Got my VF-0 about 3 wks ago (thanks neova) but only got a chance to take it out of the box yesterday. All in all I like it. Apart from a broken tailfin spike, loose knee jnts and loose gun pod stock I haven't got any big QC issues in my specimen (which I am very thankful for). I've got a few q's for other new VF-O owners 1. My gun pod stock wont fit in the niche on the forearm. Becuase of this I can't attach it to the underbelly in fighter mode. Has anyone else had this problem? 2. Any tips to tighten up the knee jnts without taking the joint to pieces. I don't even know if the knee joint CAN be disassembled. 3. Do the extending backpack thrusters LOCK? Mine slide freely but wont stay in the extended position. This is one really good looking toy with nifty features but I'm a bit sad that the QC seems to have taken a step back from the VF-1. The toy doesn't seem to lock together as firmly and feels distinctly floppy. The only place where the newfound floppiness doesn't bother me is the feet which can now be locked in a greater variety of positions. Any tips from other VF-0 owners would be greatly appreciated.
20. Hey dyno...or anyone else who's managed to get their hands on this valk.... Do the tailfins have the skull insignia on them? Thnks Dave
21. If anyone has already got their hands on one of the HBS-02 primes could they give me the low down on what the stability of the bot is like when it's put into all those crazy poses. It definitely seems more poseable than the masterpiece prime but I'm just wondering whether those poses are stable. BTW - anyone know any good sites that have toy reviews for the thing? Tnx
22. Does anyone know what colour the stealth's heatshield is going to be? It's all-black with no skull insignia in one of the yamato pics but that looks photoshopped. It doesn't seem to make much sense that they would have an all-black heatshield with the skull symbols only on the tailfins
23. Because changes HAVE to be made. The raving fanboys won't admit it, but what makes a good movie and what makes a good game are totally diffrent. I admit most of them could have been handled far better, but the perfectly faithful adaptation the gamers invariably clamor for JUST ISN'T POSSIBLE. I agree that it isn't possible, my point is that the MGS games in general are cinematic enough to not need a movie. If kojima were to write the script himself and have super-control over the directing then i'm sure the movie would be great but that'll never happen. Writing and directing for most game to movie conversions are usually outsourced to film-making professionals. I'm not picky about the movie being based perfectly on any of the MGS games but from my nostalgic viewpoint an outsourced movie without much Kojima involvement just doesn't seem necessary. MGS2: Sons of Liberty? That's a personal opinion. Gamers got pissed off at raiden, not at the gameplay and graphics which were absolutely stunning at the time. MGS2 may not have a very satisfying ending but the story was still engaging and interesting none the less. The NES adaptations didn't kill it. Sons of Liberty didn't kill it. It can survive a bad movie, which generally isn't held against the games regardless. True. But given how much I like the series right now I'm just too cautious to want to risk seeing a bad movie.
24. Is a metal gear solid movie on the cards??? If anyone's got more info on this please spill the beans....Irrespective of who directs it I seriously hope a movie isn't made...video game to movie adaptations NEVER hit the mark spot on and to me its sort of blasphemous to try to bring metal gear solid to the big screen when all the games themselves are like interactive movies. As it is the MGS franchise is unblemished storywise. U know when you play an MGS game that you're in for at least a very well thought out and discussion provoking experience... a shithouse movie would wreck that reputation.
25. I accept that the black lion may not be superb ...but in addition to being a real improvement over the old black lion it's also by far the best out of the 5 lions in the masterpiece set BTW - datterboy, the comparison shot you put up of MPC voltron, Optimus and the strike equipped VF-1J is soooo cool! As for Predaking vs Voltron. Predaking would MURDER him in a fantasy fight. (Hope that generates some discussion ) The predaking toy may not be as poseable as the MPC voltron but don't forget that the MPC is 20 years newer. Predaking and the old Go lion are similar in poseability (Preds maybe slightly more because his hips ratchet forwards and his knees can bend the right way) and they are worth comparing coz they are contemporaries....
