Great find! Why don't you go with brass rods for the gun barrels, then there's no worry about warping over time. You could even double layer the opening end with a slightly smaller barrel and spacers to give it some detail and thickness.

Beautiful work as always MJ! Not sure about the colour scheme though... I know its more anime accurate now, but it seems out of place for the fast packs to be lighter than the aircraft - maybe I'm just too old school - it might grow on me (its not relation to your amazing efforts and work!).

Way to go MJ!!! Great airbrush control and subtlety - you're ready for models! Can't wait to see them on.

The effect looks fantastic, and I can only imagine how it must look better in real life. What do you mean "slightly cloudy application"?
-
Wow!!! Simply perfect electric indigo - such subtlety in the weathering... I love it, how did you do it on the solid camo panels? It seems like a lightening of towards the centre of each panel. Very realistic for a "new" aircraft and awesome photoshop job, you nailed the light/shadows down! Beauty, you should be proud. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice!!! Still looks like a model kit though, compared to that TimeSlip resin version - still lacking a lot of fine scale surface detail, but at least its $70 instead of $250. When does it come out for sale? I wonder if there's going to be a lighting kit for it?

They're the only ones that have engineered it. There's no competition, they can really charge whatever they want - someone will buy it (maybe just not as many).
-
Unfortunate, but not unexpected. I'm in for one. Probably at NY though, that should save me $40-$50 in customs alone, otherwise it would be over $400 with S&H AND customs/brokerage - argh. That upper intake lip still really really bugs me.
-
Let's just hope they don't do pre-order shanagans like Bandai.
-
I wonder if we can re-shape the opening with some sanding and sand the outer edge and slope further up to minimize this?
-
Looks great! But that bump down at the leading edge of the intakes still really bugs me - ruins the sleekness. Do you think its improper transformation and that it can be pushed up tighter against the chest plate (or is this just wishful thinking since its been shown like this in all the photographs already)?
-
We think so much alike! That's exactly what I was waiting for too... although its still a bit chunky in the middle of the neck, it still looks better than I would have thought from the previous photos. This is a definite must buy!!! Now where would I have room for it? Is it me or do all the new Valks (Macross Frontier) look silly when they are on their landing gears. They look great in flight, but I feel all the old school design valks look good on their landing gears as well as in flight (when I saw the side elevation of the YF-19 above on its gears, it looks "right" - unlike any of the Bandai Renewal toys).

Beautiful!!! ...and I hate that redesign too... ;-)

Gorgeous, gorgeous MJ!!! You've outdone yourself yet again. You are my standard to strive for. Perfect subtlety and great photography too. You should be proud, but must stop this... you keep convincing me to get Valkyries that I never really wanted ;-) -
If you get the references, I'd be interested in it too. Depending on the extent of the masking and if there's any text graphics, I'd be interested (if its not too much work ;-)

Maybe it would make a good crashed diorama! (hehe) - or maybe a hanger scene with all the parts exposed during repairs...

Yep, it wasn't one of my favourites either, but its really grown on me (and not because I spent money on it, because I usually just get pissed off I spent money on stuff I don't like in the end!). I only wished the wing hinges were more hidden. Does it bother anyone that all these Valks come so greasy (or is it just me)? I always have a heck of a time washing them all down with soap (partly because I want to weather and clear-coat them and that doesn't stick to grease and partly because I hate leaving fingerprints all over these toys!). The glossy finish doesn't help either. It's not like the grease actually lubricates the movement of any of the joints.

Great review Jenius! Looking forward to your videos. Anyone have a crotch plate that keeps popping off? When I attach it back, the front edges always seems to have a slight gap, as though I'm missing some clip that supposed to pull it tight - maybe I'm not pressing hard enough.

Yes! Even better than Macross (did I say that out loud?!) I definitely hope so, this is the kit I've been waiting for since the Bandais came out. I hope to sneak off for a few hours here and there to do one of these babies up - just probably won't have the luxury to do a proper step-by-step. I'd just like the time to take my models/toys out for a proper photoshoot (did manage a Bandai 1/72 VF-25S Armored and that 1/3000 SDF-1 since my daughter has been around) All I can say to anyone is DON'T WAIT - have your kids now. Macross will still be here. In the meantime, I'd love to see other build ups!!!
-
I designed that white lab!!! Look on the floors for the Macross Vernier thruster ;-) Can't say I would recommend this one though... so I'll just keep quiet after this. (...if you got nothing nice to say, say nothing at all... - Thumper) They did completely reshoot the ending in Vancouver - it might of improved since I read it last.
-
Yes! I am very grateful for her and that's why I spend all my time with her, very aware that they do grow up so fast. It's the best 1:1 scale kit I've ever made ;-) Macross will still be around when I retire so I have to live vicariously through you guys and maybe dabble in a little weathering of the toys once in a while.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be doing a step by step for a while (at least not until my daughter gets old enough that Daddy isn't her main man.... maybe in 4-5yrs). In fact, I can't even find the time to weather up my toys ;-( or even clean up my workbench. However this kit would jump to the top of my pile! I hope to live vicariously through you guys!
