  1. I hope so too, but that's not really the case with the current VF-25F.
  2. Am I the only "loser" that still paid the marked up 21,00Y?! Oh well, once I got it, I stopped shopping around (and slept a good nights sleep!) and got caught up with work... I never managed to snag one of those cheaper HLJ ones either - always asleep. At least its shipped and on its way, I do like the Registered SAL option with NY - which cuts a bit of the pain.
  3. OMG! It's beautiful... they've really uped the shapes since the VF-4G. It's like a model!
  4. Please let me know if the VF-27 becomes available anywhere for a decent price... still looking for that one. Then the VF-25S and I'm done. So do we think they will offer up the Tornado parts as a separate purchase for those of us with the VF-25F or will they bundle it with the Valk again? I can't remember what they did previously with the v1. Did they ever offer Tornado parts or Powered Armor set for the Renewals?
  5. Now THAT will be the first Macross Frontier model I will actually enjoy... ;-)
  6. Glad I saw your "interest: sarcasm"...
  7. Is it this book? http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=NEOBK-1501763 Out of print - is there anywhere else to get it? edit: just got it on Amazon.jp - but ouch! 3,000Y was the only shipping option available...
  8. Gundam are made by Bandai as well, so they'll probably have the same "screened" methods to achieve the various colours and similar decal carrier films. Treat yourself and get a kit with Cartograf decals - some Hasegawa kits and Academy kits have them - you'll be spoiled and never go back again! Or maybe not, because you'll never use Bandai decals again ;-) Ah, I was getting a bit worried because we haven't seen anything yet. I'm so excited by this news - can't wait! Higher rez please.
  9. Wow! I thought I was done after the Macross Frontier Bandai renewals... but this sucked me back. Gotta get at least one though - hopefully without the markup and drama! It really looks great - I can't believe how far they've come from the v1 VF-1s.
  10. I don't get it... cloning just produces an identical organism, complete with reproductive systems - nowhere does anyone ever say clones can't breed. Why can't a cloned Kaiju reproduce?
  11. Wow! That's great, where can I get this art book? When is it coming out?
  12. My favourite moment was when we initially see the Conn-Pod interiors, you started on a closeup of the door inside Gypsy Danger (the original version with the brother) and the lights flicker on and we pull back to reveal the entire interior in a wide shot with the guys coming in! Hehe... Very disappointed it lagged behind a comedic has-been ad-libing with a bunch of personal friends to the tune of $80 million... there is no hope for humanity, bring on the Apocalypse! ;-) I do hope it becomes a sleeper surprise hit with more "legs". Thank you all here that supported it, and I'm especially grateful that you all liked it.
  13. It was so much better in IMAX 3D!!! - you really see so much more than the regular 3D version (our crew screening).
  14. Another great review... http://io9.com/pacific-rim-is-the-greatest-fairy-tale-of-the-twenty-fi-752579393
  15. Yep, I designed the conn-pod interior for Gypsy Danger (both old and current), Striker Eureka, Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon. They were pretty different and all quite unique, they did not share any components, but they did all fit within the gimballed stage and steel structure we had designed to accommodate all the conn-pods. They had the most Macross references of any set I had designed to date! You can even see the vernier thrusters with bar in the still from that clip of the over sized robot set featurette.
  16. Thanks so much! 1) These sets are my 1:1 scale models now... I don't have the time as I would like with my daughter in the picture, so a few more years before I return to the hobby. 2) The best part is getting inside your "model" and walk around the Robot cockpits and flicking switches! they wouldn't turn on the motion system without us properly harnessed in though ;-( so I never got to experience the movement inside. 3) It's a huge collaborative team effort but this part is mostly the legions of artists at ILM.
  17. I was the principal set designer for the Conn-Pod interiors. These are all my babies... (and a wonderful group of draftsman, and hundreds of other carpenters and scenic artist...) I gave a presentation of my work in Stuttgart. http://www.fmx.de/program.html#!/event/1037
  18. Yep, all my friends wives are saying they'd rather see "Grown Ups 2"... there really is NO hope for humanity after all.
  19. THANK YOU Noyhauser, very well said, and my sentiments exactly. I was just about to give up and unsubscribe to this thread, as there would be nothing I could add that would be constructive to this thread. I'm a bit surprised at how this thread has "de-evolved" into as its not characteristic of MacrossWorld. Thank you for bringing it back.
  20. Well, its no so clear cut on this one. Let me preface this by saying that I am not a fan of 3D myself, I usually actively seek out the 2D versions of film when available. I find 3D films (either post processed or native) to be generally darker, less contrasty and more blurry than its 2D counterpart. Guillermo did originally say it was going to be 2D and he wasn't a fan of 3D himself before he started shooting. It was shot with 2D cameras, so any live footage was post processed. I'm sure the original intent of the conversion to 3D was a "money grab" by the studios. However, once I saw it in 3D, I was amazed how good it looked. Most of the movie is complete CG (despite over a 100 days of shooting live action!) or so much CG that the majority of elements on screen was naturally in 3D to begin with. Even with films originally shot in 3D, the best shots are the CG shots anyways (I've worked with the 3D cameras used on Avatar - "unfortunately" we had used those cameras for Resident Evil: Afterlife which was shot in 3D and it didn't look as good as Pacific Rim does). I think Guillermo was "won" over during the conversion process - I personally don't believe he would let the 3D version out there if it looked worst than the 2D. He said to the crew that the "best" version of the film is the IMAX digital 3D version - he had just spent the last few months supervising the transfers to the various formats and I would definitely trust his advice. That's what I've already bought tickets for Saturday! This is really a film that is "the bigger the better!" p.s. Everybody who intends to go see this film, really should fight the crowds and see it this opening weekend - there really is nothing like the "energy" of sitting in the theatre with other enthusiastic people on opening weekend. Also, Hollywood judges the success of a film by its opening weekend, if you're complaining about the excessive reboots, remakes, sequels and prequels then support this original film - otherwise you should not be complaining and whining about it later!
  21. The amount of tampo printing is pretty amazing though... I think they've gotten everything from the anime.
