  1. We think so much alike! That's exactly what I was waiting for too... although its still a bit chunky in the middle of the neck, it still looks better than I would have thought from the previous photos. This is a definite must buy!!! Now where would I have room for it? Is it me or do all the new Valks (Macross Frontier) look silly when they are on their landing gears. They look great in flight, but I feel all the old school design valks look good on their landing gears as well as in flight (when I saw the side elevation of the YF-19 above on its gears, it looks "right" - unlike any of the Bandai Renewal toys).
  2. Beautiful!!! ...and I hate that redesign too... ;-)
  3. Gorgeous, gorgeous MJ!!! You've outdone yourself yet again. You are my standard to strive for. Perfect subtlety and great photography too. You should be proud, but must stop this... you keep convincing me to get Valkyries that I never really wanted ;-)
  4. If you get the references, I'd be interested in it too. Depending on the extent of the masking and if there's any text graphics, I'd be interested (if its not too much work ;-)
  5. Maybe it would make a good crashed diorama! (hehe) - or maybe a hanger scene with all the parts exposed during repairs...
  6. Yep, it wasn't one of my favourites either, but its really grown on me (and not because I spent money on it, because I usually just get pissed off I spent money on stuff I don't like in the end!). I only wished the wing hinges were more hidden. Does it bother anyone that all these Valks come so greasy (or is it just me)? I always have a heck of a time washing them all down with soap (partly because I want to weather and clear-coat them and that doesn't stick to grease and partly because I hate leaving fingerprints all over these toys!). The glossy finish doesn't help either. It's not like the grease actually lubricates the movement of any of the joints.
  7. Great review Jenius! Looking forward to your videos. Anyone have a crotch plate that keeps popping off? When I attach it back, the front edges always seems to have a slight gap, as though I'm missing some clip that supposed to pull it tight - maybe I'm not pressing hard enough.
  8. Yes! Even better than Macross (did I say that out loud?!) I definitely hope so, this is the kit I've been waiting for since the Bandais came out. I hope to sneak off for a few hours here and there to do one of these babies up - just probably won't have the luxury to do a proper step-by-step. I'd just like the time to take my models/toys out for a proper photoshoot (did manage a Bandai 1/72 VF-25S Armored and that 1/3000 SDF-1 since my daughter has been around) All I can say to anyone is DON'T WAIT - have your kids now. Macross will still be here. In the meantime, I'd love to see other build ups!!!
  9. I designed that white lab!!! Look on the floors for the Macross Vernier thruster ;-) Can't say I would recommend this one though... so I'll just keep quiet after this. (...if you got nothing nice to say, say nothing at all... - Thumper) They did completely reshoot the ending in Vancouver - it might of improved since I read it last.
  10. Yes! I am very grateful for her and that's why I spend all my time with her, very aware that they do grow up so fast. It's the best 1:1 scale kit I've ever made ;-) Macross will still be around when I retire so I have to live vicariously through you guys and maybe dabble in a little weathering of the toys once in a while.
  11. Wow! I never even knew about this toy... it looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
  12. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be doing a step by step for a while (at least not until my daughter gets old enough that Daddy isn't her main man.... maybe in 4-5yrs). In fact, I can't even find the time to weather up my toys ;-( or even clean up my workbench. However this kit would jump to the top of my pile! I hope to live vicariously through you guys!
  13. Well, ok, I'm such a pack rat, I wouldn't ever literally throw it away. Lets say it would be put at the bottom of a HUGE pile of kits I'd like to do when I retire.
  14. Not really sure where to post this, but I just realized when I was picking up my VF-27 from AmiAmi that what a great deal Nippon Yasan was?! There's been a lot of bad mouthing NY here over a few threads lately, but I must say, without them, I wouldn't be able to get a few of my renewals. No one (including me) likes to pay above MSRP, but I'd rather pay that then the e-bay prices later on and get my sleep so I can work the next day! AmiAmi declared my VF-27 at $200 which results in a $36cdn customs & brokerage fees when I picked up at the post office (via Registered SAL). Nippon Yasan declares my other renewals at $10 and I've saved $30-40 on each of my orders (also registered SAL) so far. At first I thought that Registered SAL snuck through the customs agency, but I think its the value declared - I've saved over $200 in just customs fees alone in the last few months. Even though NY charges a higher initial fee, its still less than customs in Canada (sometimes), and I'd rather pay NY for helping me get this toy than the government for restricting everything that comes into the country if it doesn't have French on it! So I now factor in 3,500Y into the price at NY to compare if its still cheaper. (ie; AA is 18,800Y while NY is 23,900Y - so while more expensive, its closer than you think in the end - at least for me in Canada). Just my 2 cents worth. (nope I haven't opened this beauty yet, its sitting in my car till the end of my 12hr work day...)
  15. Thanks! Just pre-ordered 2. I would be so glad to throw those Bandai kits in the trash after this...
  16. Woohoo!!! This is what I'm waiting for - even the side view elevation dwgs look better. I love Hasegawa's sense of sleekness and aircraft proportions.
  17. I just haven't had any time to take any pictures... plus I wanted to finish up my VF-25F and do it all in one go. I'm not sure I'm too happy with the job I did on them, I might still tweak them a bit (my RVF-25 is a bit "over" done - he mostly stayed back behind the lines so it should be less weathered, but I think I went overboard since it was the first light Valkyrie I've done after the dark VF-171CF which took a lot of work for anything to even show up). I'd like to "dry-brush" some white highlights now that they've been clear-coated so there is hopefully some "tooth" for the lighter colour to cling onto. I'm really not a fan of this super-slick glossy/shiny Bandai plastic - they just look so "toyish" and its a bi@#$! to tone down and protect.
  18. Great job on the re-scribe... that extra job is pushing my Monogram version to the back of my to-do lists. Yeah, but the Moebius one just doesn't seem to have the fine scale hatching that the Time Slip one has which gives it a great sense of scale. Is it in scale with the NuGalactica from Moebius?
  19. I've used the Model Master Acryl clear coats for my models, so I tried on these toys too. They are fine for Yamato toys (since the plastic has a bit more "tooth") but due to the glossiness of the Bandai plastics, its just too slick for them to adhere well and is too delicate and gets easily scratched off - especially the matte/flat coatings. I'm going to try MJ's Future method on my next Bandai toys - but the trick is to give them a soapy wash first as there is often a lot of oil/grease in the joints when it comes out of the box. I'm just hesitant because you have to mix a Tamiya flat base in each time which adds a level of uncertainty each time you spray on the clear coat. How do you get such a perfect black background? Velvet? I love your photos!
  20. It looks FANTASTIC MJ and I love the overall effect - perfect subtle balance of realism without going overboard! He is the advanced technology, so he should be "charred" as much as the. other CFs!!! Which Gundam marker? Is it ink or paint - do you have the number? Thanks for pointing that out on the hip guns, you did a great job at matching - what colour illustration references did you use? Lastly, is there anyway to make a Future Clear-coat completely matte/flat without that "frosting" effect? I always like to do my fast packs in a totally matte/flat like a tank - I like how it contrasts against the semi-gloss brighter colours of the plane.
  21. Wow! Bravo, it looks great MJ. Did you add that zig-zag line on the engine nacelles and the oblong hexagons on the wings with a white paint marker? If so what did you use? On some of the full-sized close up shots, it looked like there was some "dusting" of some white particulate in the clear coat, was that the Tamiya base not mixing into the Future?
  22. OMG!!! When does this come out? What's the best place to order it? (weird, to order stuff for a domestic product...;-) I've been waiting for this one for so long, I can't wait. A little disappointed that some of the engraving is so deep - I'd rather draw in the hatching with a mechanical pencil like they did on the original filming miniature. Where is there more info on this kit? How accurate is it compared to the Time Slip Creations Resin one? I wanted that one for so long, but they kept selling out and its hundreds of dollars.
  23. Yep, I have to throw my hat into the broken ring... I only transformed mine ONCE (knowing how fragile they are from these posts) and it seemed to have survived. I weathered it and sealed it in and transformed it back into the fighter mode and checked the triangles again, and they seemed to be fine! - I breathed a sigh of relief. Then I checked it a few weeks later (its only been on a stand in my shelf) and I saw that one side the tiny thin triangle under the NUNs section developed a crack all on its own! No stress marks, no pressure, no transformation at all. It probably developed the crack on my last (and only) transformation and just didn't show up till weeks later. Oh well, I'm still not sorry I purchased this one. It wasn't even on my must have list (I was never a fan of the Nighthawk or its derivative designs) but after seeing MacrossJunkie's amazing weathering job, I caved after finding it for cheap and I am glad I did even with the breakage. This design and dark colour scheme really has grown on me especially when you see it in 3D, I'm not that particularly fond of the white Alto one either. It really is too bad that there is so much breakage, a blemish on an otherwise great release. I'll post some shots when I get a chance to take a picture of it.
  24. Fantastic subtle work as usual MacrossJunkie! Why didn't you do the lighter "dry-brushing" highlight effect this time around? Too much?
  25. This is exactly what I use and its what I've been preaching all these years!!! There are different 3M cartridges, make sure to get the one for "organic compounds/solvents" which are good for lacquers. Love the Canadian F-18 BTW!
