  1. Wow!!! I can't believe that's in 1/1000 - pretty cool. What Yamato modeling guide?
  2. Yes, its a beautiful paint job (I don't know if I'd go that far...) but fantastic execution! I might have to try and pick up that issue if I can find it for a decent price/shipping.
  3. Well, I know the panel wash they used was enamel. I had a little slight smudge leftover on mine that I cleaned up with some enamel thinner and it left the basecoat intact. My guess would be a lacquer base paint since it would adhere well to the metal hull and it seems to be really smooth like lacquer. Those are great pictures from that Model Graphix - do you know what issue or do you have any higher resolution scans of those pages? Can't wait to see how your 1/500 turns out!
  4. Well, before shipping it was... I hope you managed to bundle it with other stuff. I ended up paying almost $50 for shipping it (it only cost $18). Glad you like them, I thought they were even more perfect for the Andromeda as the older stands held the ship higher so it was right in the middle of the clear box. You can cut the clear box down so its shorter and fits the lower GX-64 even more. Hey Chris, are you going to do anything to your GX-64?
  5. Fantastic work so far!!! I will definitely be following with great interest. I can't believe you've polished this turd so well ;-)
  6. What do you think? I hid all the Macross Vernier thrusters in the floor of the white lab and the pressurizing clean-room glass tunnel... did anyone catch it? ;-)
  7. Fantastic... any word about waterslide decals to be included as well? Or if anyone is making 3rd party aftermarket waterslide decals? I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I'd gladly pay for them or for someone to make them (especially anything that is to be printed white).
  8. Is it me or just really annoying when I watch a review done by someone who is obviously not a fan and don't know much about the subject...
  9. It says language: English - had it been dubbed? English subs? Again, Canadians gets screwed yet again... http://www.amazon.ca/Space-Battleship-Yamato-Movie-Blu-ray/dp/B00HXEWECI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392397688&sr=8-1&keywords=Space+Battleship+Yamato%3A+Movie (if I get it from Amazon.com - I'll be charged customs, duties, HST AND $9.95 processing fee!)
  10. I really hope turns the interest into some toys or decent models!!!
  11. Will they come out together to combine shipping? (at at least close enough for the HLJ warehouse to work?)
  12. Actually, think they missed the boat on not lighting up the beautiful hanger bay when the door is open! Nope! When you're right, your RIGHT!!!
  13. I don't think its beyond your ability... you have amazing skills judging from what I've seen so far. Go Chris Go! Can't wait to see you 1/500 build, please post when you get the chance, I'd love to see it. Yep, Kyp is definitely gettin' a kick-back from Yamato
  14. I hope not! I have one of those and the panel lines are giant deep trenches... they are the same level of detail of the 1/48 - but would be way too clunky next to the fine panel lines of the current v2 1/60s. I hope its a new mold, it can be based on the transformation mechanisms that were engineered for the original VF-0s so they own the intellectual property rights for the ideas. Just tighten everything up. I'd definitely go for it.
  15. Thanks! So do you stick those plates right onto your paintwork on your model?! or are they meant to me inside the the model?
  16. Saw it yesterday at the crew screening... it was much better than I thought it would turn out. I can actually recommend people to see it, its not award winning, but it has its moments. (I designed his lab - not the bed though...)
  17. Simply gorgeous! Flawless execution. Thanks for satisfying my need to see a beautiful model (when I can't build any of my own). BTW, what's that stand you're using, it looks great!
  18. I have to keep sayin' it, it's just beautiful MJ!!! I also love your photography of it too. Really elevates these toys - I guess it was good that Bandai made them in the shiny toy-like plastic - it really forced us to do something about it because it looked so awful out of the box.
  19. Wow!!! Thank you Kyp for convincing me to buy this. I absolutely love it, its hard to describe and all the photos really don't do it justice, but your absolutely right, its the most "model-like" toy I've ever owned. It is totally worth it! Everyone, don't hesitate and get this anyway you can. Its just so fine and slender in all aspects. It's already got a bit of a dark wash in some panels, but not in others, funny, it will really pop when I do a dark wash on all the panels and a light dry brush. Its a bit darker than I was expecting. Here's the case with my Andromeda in it, it fits perfectly. However this Yamato sits lower, the stand is lower, the ship isn't vertically centered within the case, but its pretty darn perfect in terms of length. You can cut down the height to get it lower so the ship sits exactly centred, but I'm not doing that since I'm displaying it along side my Andromeda. Now I know why it was so expensive to ship the case from HLJ (EMS only due to size) - but holy! The box that it came with was incredible compared to what was inside. The case comes flat in the thin box, but it was within this huge shipping box full of airfilled plastic bags. What a waste! If I knew, I would have warehoused it and shipped it along with other stuff, that box could hold a lot of stuff (but I guess the weight would go up). The Yamato is pretty much the same length as the Andromeda, so I thought they'd go well together, but the level of quality of this toy really puts it above the previous Andromeda, its like displaying a model beside a toy. Plus I never knew how much fatter the Andromeda was or how much skinnier the Yamato was compared to it. If the new Andromeda is going to be anything of this quality, then I have to get that too and see my existing one! Don't get me wrong, the toy is fantastic, its really detailed and the AA guns are amazingly to scale (but fragile) as well as most of the fins - its delicate though. Now for my cons: I liked the old base better, I liked that it had an integrated spot of the remote and that it held the ship higher from the base as well as occupying a smaller footprint. The music selection was a bit lacking, in fact the older Andromeda music selection was much better and brought back old memories, the new one seems to be missing the quintessential Yamato theme (or it was heavily modified). I wished the seam around the hatch that opens around the hanger bay was tighter so it was less noticeable. It really should have the tiny white sea level markings and the yellow loading bay warning stripes. While the on mode is nice with the sound starting up and the lights on (which I do love) - I wished that once it went to sleep, it can be woken up by the remote instead of going in and turning it off and back on again. I wished there was a light in the hanger bay so it would light up when the door is open. Can someone explain to me the button A to fire the Wave Motion Gun sequence? The old one was so intuitive, you press once to charge and again to fiire, but I can't seem to figure this one out. It seems like you hold down A to start the sequence, it charges, but I don't know how to fiire it. Subsequently, when I hold down A for a long time, all I get is the firing without the charging up. Would someone please explain it to me or translate that part of the instructions? I did get dinged $38.24cdn for customs & duties (with a $9.95 "handling costs" in there?!) I did not get dinged for the case though. But I find that I always get dinged for anything over $50 of value from every other store OTHER than Nippon Yasan. Sorry for my crappy cell phone pictures, but you get the idea. Once I do a little work on this baby, I'll take some better photos.
  20. Argh... I saw my post man at the door with the package from Ami Ami today... then I watched him write me a while you were out ticket to hang on my doorknob - helplessly from my iPhone at work. Now I gotta wait till he brings it back to the post office for me to pick up tomorrow. I'm sure I got dinged for customs - probably the same as you Sandman, actually maybe a bit more since the HST is a bit higher her in Ontario. Damn!
  21. I'll try to remember to take a shot of it tonight. Unfortunately, HLJ only offers EMS shipping for this item, so while the case was reasonably priced at 1,760Y, it was 3,300 for EMS so the total cost came up to 5,060Y (a bit of a shock). Anyways, it looks really good inside and it should arrive at almost the same time.
